OMG, I loathe Neil so much because he thinks he's a way bigger prize than he is.
If the writers weren't so lazy with how the character is written, Neil should and would be a big prize. He's well-educated, successful, lives in a fancy apartment, rich, and good-looking. Most women ages 25-54 would be lining up for a date with someone like that IRL.
The problem is that Neil has always been viewed by TPTB as secondary fodder, trotted out for the sake of diversity, instead of making him a multi-faceted character. Why Neil--with his MBAs and years of corporate expereince--never went into business on his own, I'll never understand. He could have easily started a consulting/advertising firm and built it into something substanial. Other than TIIC were too lazy to write a good business story for anyone, let alone the often-forgotten and not particularly a fan favorite Neil.
What's even worse is that by Genoa City standards, Neil has a fairly clean love record. The notches on his belt aren't many--Dru, Olivia, Ashley, Karen, Sophia, Leslie. I don't count Victoria from back in the day, they barely kissed. But they have him treating the women shoddily and for no good reason. The Ashley situation was particularly bad, because that was a great partner for him--someone just as smart and ambitious with her own life, but able to enjoy the affection Neil could offer. But they let that slip away. They could have tried with Sharon too, but nope.
It makes no sense that have a perfectly viable character that could and should easily hold his own in the boardroom and be a true romantic option for several women in GC has been wasted so badly over the years. A real shame, IMO.
