More positive changes are made by the hospital's new management; Meredith worries about her unborn baby; Alex decides to give Jo's boyfriend a run for his money.

Although I was ready to send in the creepy clowns to April's carnival if she mentioned it one more time.
Awww, McBaby #2 is a boy! How sweet.
Baby Shepherd is a boy, who wants to bet his middle name will be Mark?
SR tweeted that MerDer weren't going to name the baby Mark because in her head, there's only one Mark and he's dead. Glad that also that means, Lexie is not in the run.

Then that last line the OB said, while disgusting, sounded like something added in just to make Alex's actions seem noble. I guess we have to know that in the end Alex is good and this new guy is bad, because any kind of complexity is a no-go.
On the bright side I did actually find enjoyment with the other parts of the show, though.

And Zola's going to have a baby brother! ::sigh:: Meredith and Derek have come so far.
And Arizona let Callie fully in (I mean non sexually!) when she let Dr. Torres take care of her and her stump.
And Bailey got her project.
And the ER is back, the hospital - new name and all - looks good, and I feel like we're finally passed THAT drama.

I think its the styling of her hair or something but there have been multiple times when they are shooting at a cerain angle and I do a double take because Jo resembles Izzie so much to me. .Except that Alex and Jo do not have a pinky's worth of the chemistry Alex and Izzie had.

I enjoyed this ep. It was nothing groundbreaking, but it felt like the resolution of a lot of stale plot lines. Tired of Callie begging for sex, tired of the drama of the 'buying the hospital' plot, tired of Catherine, so this was a good ep by those standards....

This show has made some terrible decisions over the years, but I think that the crash survivors buying the hospital is the worst. It was awful and sad to watch Bailey grovel to her former interns. Yes, she got her money in the end, but only after the Star Belly Sneetches conferred to make sure she was worthy. The storyline has separated the doctors into Haves and Have Nots and the Haves have all become condescending, superior assholes, IMO. I feel like I'm watching some kind of alternate reality. HATE!
They are completely ruining Alex with this story. I felt embarrassed for him throughout the episode and it just goes to show how juvenile he's becoming for Jo.
It didn't play out as bad as I had feared, not that that is saying much. I don't think that Alex's immaturity is something new, I could totally see him doing this stuff to George and hey, at least he isn't shocking his rival with those paddles. That's growth, right? Right??
As vulgar as what OBGYN said was, he was absolutely right. Alex can make a fool of himself all he wants, Jo is going home with the guy in pink scrubs and he had every right to let Alex know it. He could have been a little classier though. This triangle is so stupid, but I'm not surprised that one character has to be knocked down to prop another one up. The writers are practically doing this in their sleep. The thing is, Jo already admires and likes Alex so its kind of pointless. Its so much better when her sole purpose is to do nice things for Alex, LOL!
Also, wow, does Annette O'Toole look different. I wouldn't have recognized her if I didn't see her name in the credits.

My feelings, as well. So tired of the crash aftermath, which I include the hospital bankruptcy/sale in. Oh, and no Cathering Avery. Another positive!

I loved it. It was payback for the crappy, snarky way she treated each and every one of them.
Anyone remember if they've ever mentioned what Derek's father's name was? That's my guess in the McBaby Naming Pool. And since the last two babies were girls (Zola and Sofia), I was not at all shocked that McBaby had an "eleventh finger."
I don't believe we know Derek's father's name, although Derek's middle name is Christopher (a probable nod to Ellen Pompeo's husband). I, too, was expecting the baby to be a boy because of Sophia and Zola.
I enjoyed almost everything about this episode, excluding the continuing juvenile behavior of Karev. I'm over his story with Izzy 2.0. The multiple Meredith/Derek scenes were icing on the cake. It was great, too, to see Derek once again as the superb teacher he's always been. I'm glad he's got Ross as a student.
My favorite scenes outside of MerDer were Alex "decapitating" the pen, Cristina talking to the baby: "Hello. This is Cristina. Yang", Heather's head popping up when Leah says she sees the marble, and amazingly, because I never care for Callie, but...Arizona allowing Callie to touch and massage her leg.
All in all, one of my favorites of the season.

Annette O'Toole was wonderful, but she has not aged well and whatever work she had done makes it worse. She looked so different that it took me until this morning to place the voice and figure it who it was.
I hate watching our favorite former "Nazi" having to suck up to Christina and Mere for $$ and it was totally out of character for her to interrupt surgery to do it. It was so out of whack that I had to check and see if Chandra was the director.
Then that last line the OB said, while disgusting, sounded like something added in just to make Alex's actions seem noble. I guess we have to know that in the end Alex is good and this new guy is bad, because any kind of complexity is a no-go.
It was a perfect line to use on Alex who, let's face it, is a pretty crude guy. Dr. Pink Scrubs knew just how to hurt Alex, which was his goal and saying it nicely was not going to have the same effect. I don't think they needed to make Alex look better than him, just trying to show that they hit a nerve and that the guy was going to fight back.

I must not be paying enough attention because I was extermely confused that the show started with Owen in the ER. I thought he quit. Did I somehow miss someone convincing Owen to come back to the hospital? Or was this like the hospital magically becoming a cutting edge reasearch hospial again with a state of the art ER in the time it takes to construct a sign.
It was because they 'needed' him even though he sucked at being a Chief and the hospital was falling apart on his watch.
Still this episode was more watchable compared to the borefest that was the lawsuit/hospital nonsense.

The weird thing about Grey's is that the hospital apparently exists in a world without hospital administrators. There is an entire field of business/management that specializes in managing physicians' practices and hospitals. It's not as though the Chief of Surgery or Chief of Medicine are expected to run the entire hospital, order supplies, pay quarterly taxes, negotiate contracts, procure transportation charter services, etc. There are people who do that, who are not actively practicing physicians. Hospital management has evolved so that physicians (like world-famous neurosurgeons) can focus on patient care and treatment, and not ordering gauze and negotiating contracts with custodians. This show has made some terrible decisions over the years, but I think that the crash survivors buying the hospital is the worst. It was awful and sad to watch Bailey grovel to her former interns. Yes, she got her money in the end, but only after the Star Belly Sneetches conferred to make sure she was worthy. I've never understood why the Chief of Surgery at Seattle Grace is depicted as the CEO of the hospital, given that there are other (non-surgical) departments to the hospital that would not fall under or answer to Richard, Derek, or Owen.
This storyline, of having the hospital (and Owen, specifically) liable for the plane charter's negligence, having the hospital's insurance company bail after negotiating a settlement, and having the hospital going broke hasn't been terribly coherent and it has been very weak. If the ultimate goal is to get Meredith Grey owning the hospital... why? Seeing Meredith in a boardroom is not exactly the point of "Grey's Anatomy," is it -- it's supposed to be her, et al., in the OR.

THIS!
The one thing that made my eyes roll in the episode was Alex. Whom I adore. But his storyline with Jo has made him act more immature than he ever has in the entirety of the series; And the Fab 5 have pulled some ridiculous crap over the years... you know, when they were INTERNS and growing residents. Alex is an Attending surgeon - pediatric fellow - and, though I know him messing with Pink Scrubs was played for laughs and he was also amusing a sick kid - it was extremely juvenile and Alex is better than that.
Yet another reason why I can't get on board with this coupling.

Liked the patient storylines. Love the excitement about the Lodox, especially Heather and Leah. Heather's face when Leah found the marble- priceless.
Mer and April's carnival talk, as freaky as it was, i enjoyed it. Lol. Then came Callie who was completely oblivious to April's trials. As much as i like that scene i can see why April and Callie don't have much scenes together. No chemistry.
Christina being Christina was hilarious. Christina being played by Dr. Russel then counterstriking, also good. *Hi5!*
Bailey-Callie-Arizona - Hilarious. Had me popping up. Especially Callie's emphasis on 'other stuff' and Bailey walking away.
Mer's anxiety was a bit overplayed. I enjoyed the scene with her and Alex though. And was grateful Derek calmed her down in the end. Aww a boy, sweet! That scene was really touching.
Shane and psycho dad, meh. Still love you Shane. I like Alex, Jo and OB guy but i didn't care much for their scenes in this episode.
And last but not least, Callie and Arizona. Callie showcasing and obsessing over Arizona's booty, LOL! Hilarious and cute. Was Arizona always this shy? I guess the amputation can attribute to that.
The scene where Callie touched and massaged Arizona's leg, its like a million things decided to fly in my eyes in that one single moment. Damn you Grey's! *wipes tears*. From Callie closing the door to stooping down and taking off Arizona's prosthetic. Arizona's reaction, her vulnerability, hesitation, discomfort, relief then joy, wow... Everything about that scene was beautiful. Sweet, tender and touching. Especially how gentle Callie was being with her, it was beautiful to watch. The actresses played every single emotion well, i really felt them. And their final scene was a perfect end to their whole storyline thus far. They've come a long way and i thought that everyone involved did a wonderful job in portraying their journey. It felt honest. As honest as it could be given time restraints, etc.
Best episode of the season, second to Shonda Rhimes' Meet the Plaintains. Lol.

This whole plan crash/law suit/hospital purchase storyline has pretty much ruined all the characters involved for me. I really liked the start of the season, with Meredith, Cristina and Alex finally growing up and graduating, and the contrast between them as they are now and the new interns acting like them as they were. I loved seeing them being professional, competent, teaching and advising. But now watching them treat the hospital like their own private playground, subverting funding, machines, staff etc to serve their own selfish purposes just sticks in my craw. And Bailey was awful in this episode too. She's spent weeks bitching out the plane crash survivors and now she's crawling to them for money for a project (that has nothing to do with surgery and will ultimately put them all out of a job)? WTF, show?
For me, Calzona was the best part of this episode. Finally, they're talking about their problems and taking steps to remedy them and moving forward! And it wasn't just about Callie finally getting laid! It's only taken 18 episodes! Hooray!

I kind of enjoyed the harassment of Dr. Pink Scrubs, language aside. After all, it was the cancer kid's idea to begin with. And then former chief of surgery Richard Webber chimed in for the coup d'grace.
Agree with the praise for the Calzona scene with Callie helping Arizona. Well done all around.
I thought it was brave for Annette O'Toole to appear without makeup and glam hair. She did a great job with the teacher/student story line.
I liked the board member docs learning their way to deal with managing a hospital vs doctoring.
Was glad to see Mer and Der being doctors and teachers as well as together being husband and wife. Also got some Mer/Cris time.
Liked when Der finally called Mer on the baby trashing. I couldn't believe she hadn't had ultrasounds before, though.
This was the first episode in a long time that I enjoyed because the medical stories and the doctor stories all blended together well, but please, please someone send April back to the farm. Or the carnival.

I'm a bit baffled by what I was supposed to take away from the dying teacher's story, though. Usually the patient's story has some sort of parallel to whatever doctor that's treating him/her but I'm drawing a blank trying to make any connection between Meredith's paranoia over her baby and the teacher dying of cancer. That is was better to be prepared - the teacher helping her students prepare for the rest of the year without her, and Meredith ultimately getting an ultrasound? That seems sort of flimsy.
I think I had completely forgotten there was even a Dr. Russell - have we even seen him since that episode where Cristina returned to Seattle MW? When she was telling Bailey she was looking for Dr. Russell the only person I could think of was Shane Ross. But it's apparent being in charge hasn't yet gone to Cristina's head - she seemed to have forgotten she was Russell's boss until Bailey reminded her. And I loved when she got one over on him, she looked so self satisfied, and that's the Cristina I like best.
I'm not sure how I feel about "Grey+Sloan Memorial Hospital." It's that plus sign that makes it look odd.
When they were talking about the fancy new machine, someone mentioned having spent "hundreds of thousands of dollars" on it, which seemed awfully cheap to me. I would think the cost of such a high tech piece of medical equipment would more likely be in the millions of dollars.
The fact that this episode was light on the interns and April also helped - a lot.
At the end of the last episode, Jackson told the other board members he was reinstating Owen and that Owen had signed off on it.I must not be paying enough attention because I was extermely confused that the show started with Owen in the ER. I thought he quit. Did I somehow miss someone convincing Owen to come back to the hospital?
He said "you can laugh about it while I'm nailing her in the bathroom of the bar."What did he say? I fast forwarded it alot.

Hire a "Chief of STAFF." (not Surgery/Medicine, etc). They run the day to day stuff, and call the doctor-board, when major decisions. This way the Doctors can do what they clearly want to do. (Operate). It makes it so much easier, and it can even bring in a new area to the show. And it's clearly needed.
Baby Shepherd is a boy. I'm happy. (Though truthfully, I was expecting twins or something).
I really like Mousey/Heather. And her friend (the one who was sleeping with Alex before). And Ross. I don't get why they had to make Alex "love" Jo. Why couldn't they be best friends? Re: the crass comment, I didn't like it, but as it were two guys talking, but in all honesty in the back of my head, if it were serious I don' think the comment is necessary.

I liked the interns in the ER, and Smash with Derek. Even April was pretty tolerable.
Loved Derek and Mere and the ultra-sound!!
Thought Mere coming up with horrible things that could happen to the baby and Alex debunking them was cute.
Liked Callie/Arizona finally getting it on!

Right! it made the whole episode tolorable! There was that small scene with April going on about carnivals or some such nonsense (so she has fucked the shit out of Jackson but can't say the word "sex"? ---what a fool!) anyway I stareted to roll my eyes but didn't flip the channel and or FF like I usually do because Mere was in the scene as well. and I laughed out loud when Mere said --not paraphrasing --- well maybe god introduced you to the carnival so you can introduce what's his name to the carnival too. HaHa!!!
Thought Mere coming up with horrible things that could happen to the baby and Alex debunking them was cute.
Oh? huh? I took it that Alex wasn't debunking all the horrors Mere was inventing --it sounded to me that he was agreeing with her as well as inventing a few more things that might be wrong. Haha! I may have to re-watch that scene. But it was a perfect Alex/Meredith moment. Same with Cris "talking" to Meredith's stomach. hi. This is Cristina. Yang.
I just knew the baby was going to be a boy but that was a cute moment and I actually "felt" the chemistry between Pompeo and Dempsey in that scene and it made me smile. So well done show.

That's what's never made sense in Shondaland, even on Private Practice where Charlotte was Chief of Staff, they acted like she was in charge of everything. Hospitals are ran by different chiefs in major areas, while not all areas get chiefs like say: PEDS, OBGYN, Respiratory, ect. There is a Chief of Surgery, Emergence Medicine/Trauma, Staff, and sections and departments are then ran by non medical staff that are either the managers or chairs for their areas. Ever since the beginning they've acted like Richard, later Derek and now Owen are the say all be all, but then the board members magically appear and do their say and then quickly disappear. That isn't how a hospital works not in this day and age, and it wouldn't have been a problem because we know the former board at Seattle Grace/Mercy West just plained sucked! Most of them were stuck in affairs or just complained about everything and never really did what you know a board does, run a hospital from operations to finance and the lot. It's been so ridiculous and while this is only a TV drama. Seriously, do some research.
