Highlights from the 16th-season opener. Also: backstage footage and interviews.

Well, there was no backstage footage and there were no interviews. It was a straight recap show and frankly kind of boring.

As usual, I enjoyed the extended clips from practice. In particular, I liked watching someone like Tristan teach Dorothy. I very much enjoy the improvement of these couples, not only from week to week but also from day to day.

Also, on rewatch, I thought Andy was underscored. Watching Wynona get better scores seemed absolutely ridiculous when watching Andy/Wynona back to back.

It wasn't a true results show, so there were no pro dances or backstage interviews planned. This was just a straight-up recap with extended rehearsal footage, which is all it was supposed to be.

I watched but didn't notice any real extended coverage if any at all. Seemed to me only to be the clips before they danced last night.

I noticed that they seemed to slide in about 15-30 seconds of extra rehearsal footage. I couldn't identify the exclusive rehearsal footage from three out of the first six dancers' packages, so I switched back to my House of Cards binge. Sigh. I should have just watched this instead of the premiere last night; at least it didn't have Brooke or much of the judges.

I enjoyed the show and was surprised to find that I thought everyone did better than I had originally thought. Even DL, whom I thought was pretty terrible on Monday, didn't seem as bad as I remembered when I rewatched last night. Is that weird?

The different order made me look at the performances more favorably, including DL.

I only watched about 3 dancers but that's what I thought, too.

Kellie's jokes about doing a figure 8 with her hips were funny. If that played the first night, I wasn't paying attention.

Surprised at myself that Andy had me when he said that he is Sharna's bitch. The cast seems very supportive of him.

When I see Lisa I think, Nigella Lawson and Marcia Gay Harden. I won't be sad when she goes; I'm not into the housewife show. She does have a smokin' tushy though.

To bad they don't use this format all the time.
Background information followed by dancing, going straight to scoring with no judges posturing, bickering, etc., and no silly post dance interviews, all wrapped up in 1 hr .

I could have done without the footage of Lisa's behind hanging out of her leotard during practice. Not sure if that aired Monday or if it was added last night. I mean really, it was not attractive.
