From zap2it.com:

Stress makes one contestant cry; a team makes history while trying to stay in the game.

Not a bright move, John! Your integrity cost you the race.

Can't wait to read the comments on this thread.

Oy Vey is right.

Haven't we seen Phil tell contestants in the middle of a task that they are the last team and have been eliminated..after it drags on and on and on?

John is an effing moron.

Haven't we seen Phil tell contestants in the middle of a task that they are the last team and have been eliminated..after it drags on and on and on?

Usually an on-site Philimination only happens when Phil and the crew really, really have to get the show on the road. Since Phil could see the teams from his perch that seemed to not be an issue here.

Wow. John sure is... something. Jessica? That look on your face? Yeah girlfriend, I get it.

Winnie and Pam losing out on first was hard. Especially since Connor just peeked at her surfboard and was able to slide on by. I'm over Dad and Son. I'm not here to watch them hijack the race with their storyline. Editors, stop it.

Bates and Anthony are so lucky. So very lucky.

Next week: Joey/Meghan and Beth/Mona targeted. You know Max was patting himself on the back for that "They made their bed now they have to lie in it" crack. In Phil's words, oy vey.

Phil's incredulousness at John's refusal to admit that maybe he kinda fucked up and maybe it sucked to be going home was hilarious. I never felt like I understood them. They seemed nice, but he was also kind of smug--or maybe just pretentious--and kind of overthought everything. But I thought they were in it for the long haul before this week.

God, Team YouTube is annoying. Sometimes that's less on display, but when they're mugging I find them excruciating to watch.

Has Wynona done any Roadblocks yet?

Glad to see Pam and Winnie and Connor and Dave do well.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm not sure if that makes up for the lackluster first few episodes of this season, but that was pretty great.

Points:
1) MONKEYS!
2) Two detour options that were both hard, but fair. It's hard to judge them, but I think those were probably about equal.
3) A good roadblock that rewarded critical thinking. Good job Pam in particular (it was Pam, right?). If they're standing next to each other I know the difference, but with voiceovers and weird angles it's harder. Connor was pretty obnoxious about it.
4) Killer fatigue is early, but a four day leg makes it excusable.
5) No Max and Katie "We're evil!" mugging.
6) Considerably less Joey mugging and I think I heard him in a normal tone of voice once. Progress! Though it's entirely possible Meghan, who is otherwise not offensive, should not be allowed to dress herself.
7) The ending. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
8) Phil after the ending. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Starting to like a few teams even. I think Pam and Winnie are #1, then the other two female teams and Bates and Anthony.

Holy hell, that end was amazing. I'm excited to see if those two are still together and what he says about that episode.

Not that I think they did anything wrong or that I'm turning on him but something about Connor rubbed me the wrong way. When Winnie/Pam (sorry, not enough screen time to tell yet) suggested that 1,2 in exchange for telling him what the board, Connor acted like it was insane for her to not just jump at the chance to help him. Again, he had no obligation to agree to her suggestion and it was her fault for not being more covert with the sticker on the board but... his attitude bothered me.

"Oy vey" is now my favourite line from this show ever, beating "Swing you fat bastard, swing!"

Phil's "oy vey" won the leg, frankly. What a systematic breakdown of a single team. First Jessica is so fussy with the fruit that they switch tasks. They were basically kaput at that point. Then John started acting like a looney tune with the surfboards. Mr. Candy Moocher thinks John picked up some nose candy and/or Adderall in Bali--he was so far out there in a couple of those scenes.

I don't even care that Connor peeked at Winnie's (?) board and won the leg. She was willing to help him but only if he let her be first to the mat. Girl, that's not how this works. IT'S A RACE. She should've protected her board better. Once again, her over-thinking something (how to find Phil) ultimately cost her team a prize. That team's days are numbered, I feel.

So, so funny to watch Alabama guy running around the rocks and water. I was rolling.

I LOVELOVELOVE Phil! "Oy vey" was the cherry on a very WTF episode. John will go to his grave in complete and total denial that he screwed up. Dude simply could not admit he was wrong, to the very end. The only thing that would have made me laugh harder at the end there is if Phil let loose with a "What the fuck was that?".

Wow. That wasn't a meltdown, that was a gradual deterioration and collapse. John and Jessica seemed like a team to beat. Now can something similar happen to Max and Katie?

Bali was fantastic. Still waiting to really like a team.

But this spectacle made up for a lot.

Phil scores.

Groan. Double U turns next week. HATE.

Run Jessica, run! Your boyfriend is a giant, stubborn douche who has no interest in either admitting he was wrong or in learning from his mistakes. What a dumbass. Phil clearly agrees.

Mona and Beth are my new favorite team. They really powered through their task.

None of the teams except J&J were annoying, and Team Youtube even earned a gold star with me for their Lego love.

Holy crap, was that a schadenfreude moment at the end. You could actually see his soul wither when Phil told him they had made TAR history by being eliminated with an unplayed Express Pass. Meanwhile, the team they strung along for the second pass came in first. On crutches.

I am totally getting a vibe from Wynona that she didn't want to be on the Race at all, but is going along with it because it's Chuck's dream. When Phil told them they were still in the Race, Chuck was ecstatic, while her expression looked like he had just told her she had been picked for jury duty.

Joey and Meghan didn't annoy quite as much this week (although they did replay the "RAISETHEROOF!RAISETHEROOF!" shit from last week to remind me of why I hate them), and it was quite sweet of them to show Mona and Beth the correct surfboard graphic. If Joey can continue to resist the urge to dial it up 30 notches, I might stop throwing things at my tv when they're on.

Absolutely FLOVED Mona and Beth for the "There's no crying in The Amazing Race!" cabterview. They're a wonderful team.

Bates and Anthony are quite the eye candy when all their teefs are present.

What a fool! The guy is so bloody smug he ended up screwing himself and his partner right out of the race. I can't imagine she's too happy now.

I'm so glad the Battaglias are still in it after bad taxi luck. I am surprised Bates got the board after he initially bypassed it.

Is anyone keeping track of who has been doing all the roadblocks? Crying Dad must be behind his son and Wynona...I think she only did the first one with the sandcastles.

Oy Vey indeed! That last task almost made me forget everything else in the race!

This episode may top the first episode of season 20 (the 2 female golfers turning around when within sight of Phil), for the dumbest elimination in the show's history!! What an episode!! I was sooooo sure the hockey guys were out the entire leg based on the editing, but am very glad that they are still in it.

I think this should be the Emmy episode. This was just gold, and the editors were really on top of their game. At first I was like "WTF?" when they fast forwarded through all the teams arriving at NZ's pit stop instead of showing the rest of the teams doing the shemozzle race, but they obviously had a lot to get to in the Bali leg. So many great editing moments, like one of the country gals telling the ridiculous story of the flying squirrel, followed by the cut to the monkey statue with its head in its hands. And then the "there's no crying in the race!" to the country gal crying her eyes out. And of course the ending, with the cut to Phil. This episode was gold.

Stoked that Team Alabama is still in it. How John could still hang onto the express pass when arriving at the RB when everyone else was already there remains a mystery. That guy needs his ego checked. At the very least, when you're the last 2 teams with Chuck and Wynona, you've gotta do it up then, but his ego said he had to complete the task. I'm not sure why they felt the need to leave the fruit-building task in the first place, which was the beginning of the end (actually maybe interrupting the nice old guy to decorate his little backyard was the beginning of that).

Liked that a memory task was instituted before the final leg of the race, that was a nice touch. I'm rooting for the hockey guys and Alabama at this point, but none of the remaining teams really grate me too much. Would probably root for father/son, but that is obviously a losing battle as they will only be around another leg or two (eventually dad will have to complete a roadblock at the very least)

Great episode!

I really cannot understand the thinking behind Wynona having Chick do all of the roadblocks. Simple tasks like this she should be all over leaving the more physical ones the Chuck. If they last this is definitely gonna bite them in the ass later.

Uh, John...you're the dumbest dumb ass. And pretending not using the Express Pass was because of your "integrity" does not make you less of a douche.

I knew when John said in the talking head that they had to think strategically they were dead men walking. Real strategic thinking there, spend hours on the fiddly task (didn't they go to the wrong place first?) then bald snark that to go do the other detour. THen spend hours on the memory task. All while they had an express pass sitting in their Amazing Fanny Pack. Geez, even the guy on crutches beat them.

Wynonna better get off her butt and start doing roadblocks. This one was not particularly difficult, she should have done it. Chuck needs to not just go ahead and do it when she says for him to do it.

Oy, youtube guy annoyed with this "gooey center" talk to the monkeys.

For shame. It was from the very first episode of the show. Kevin, to Drew, naturally.

EDIT: Not his best line of the episode even. "That's Namibia, jackass!"

And the true best line is and always will be Colin's.

"The Amazing Race. Come for the monkeys, stay for the dumbest elimination ever."

Oh my God. OH. MY GOD. Thank God for the DVR, because I was laughing too hard to hear Phil say "Oi vey" as he threw up his hands. And then? I laughed harder.

I think it's safe to say that Jessica is probably single right now. John is an idiot. A hard-headed idiot. He had an Express Pass, he was going up against Chuck, and he didn't use the Express Pass. He did not use the Express Pass. The producers made it specifically to bail teams out, that was the perfect time to use it, and he didn't. And now there's a few thousand people making GIFs of Phil throwing his hands up in confusion. So stupid. So awesome. Seriously, if John was skydiving, and his main chute didn't open, how long would he fiddle with it until it worked, as opposed to using the emergency chute? Thirty seconds after he hit the ground, I bet. Holy fuck.

And Phil didn't let him look at the other surfboards, even though he and Jessica were done!!! So awesome.

What else happened? Unbelievably cute monkeys, for one. They looked like they had facial hair. And even with guys picking up the clues in several cases, it's still a fun task. Ditto with the surfboards and the Detour tasks. Good leg topped off by the gnarliest big toe ever. Because John didn't use the Express Pass. Really, I can't point that out without using italics.

In other news, Conner got to steal first place for himself and his dad. Dave's still on borrowed time, but I bet he's one of those guys who'd have to lose two limbs before calling in quits. On the other end of the spectrum, Chuck & Wynona are lucky to survive a non-elim, not to be hit with a Speed Bump (too hard to set up in consectutive legs?), and be pitted against John. Also, Wynona still hasn't done a Roadblock . . . though in her defense, the clue did look like surfing would be involved. But I'm not complaining. The mullet must be soothing to gaze upon.

ETA: Forgot about the one-and-one/back-to-back Roadblocks. So Wynona has done one. She needs to do more, though.

That was hilarious. As it became increasingly obvious that the "making history" was being eliminated with an Express Pass in your pocket, I started grinning, because it was oh so well deserved, given the amount of idiotic over-strategising. I'll charitably attribute some of it to KF, but John was manic at the end of that leg. I can't imagine Sequesterville being a fun place for them.

Decent leg, surprisingly without a mass bunch en route to Bali, and I'm especially glad that taxi luck didn't lead to an elimination. That was a weirdly-formatted Roadblock task at the end, though, and I wonder, theoretically, how you'd use the Express Pass to skip it -- just go to the mat and give it to Phil?

In a way, I can kinda see going on with the task. At that point, you know you're last, you know you're out, so you might as well finish it on your own terms. It's like Krum going for the snitch even though Ireland was going to win.

Except there's sticking to your guns and then just going too far. Seriously, no regrets? Bald-snarking when you're in a race for last instead of skipping a task? Really?
