Disadvantages: gender, race, weight, one of many safe contestants, gives off a vibe of being a full-fledged current artist despite occasionally sining dinosaur songs
Out of this year's top 10 bunch, Candice is the least boring performer, so I hope she'll go all the way to the finale.

Also her smile weirds me out. She has this creepy Joker face sometimes, with a really eerie looking Glasglow smile.

That presumes that everyone you listed is equal. But one of them went on to be a superstar (even though she left Idol pretty early) and the rest of them tanked. She'll probably come in third place or something like every big black diva seems to do on every season. I feel like all of these chicks are interchangeable- what sets her apart from Melinda Doolittle or Jennifer Hudson or Frenchie or Lil Rounds? I could go on and on, I just can't be bothered to remember the names all of those divas from past seasons.
Candice does seem in the simplest analysis like she'd be a near miss for winning, but if J. Hud proved anything its that this show and its voters DON'T always know what they actually want, or what they're doing. WGWGs win constantly for that very reason. This year, the horrible Lazaro may be the closest to getting those WGWG votes, but otherwise the lack of WGWGism will cause some chaos, so its possible that the backup cliche of the Diva might win the day. I think the show is aiming for "Emo Chick winner", because its a type they haven't been able to mine yet for sales (but also a kind of easy plug in replacement for WGWG), which is why they've been overdoing pushing Angie, but they've overdone it so much that there's a backlash and those people may be shifting to Diva support instead.
Of course the same logic might be happening, but for Country Chick instead. Janelle benefits if it goes that way, because the darn show is building a "road to greatness" storyarc for her. In this scenario, Kree's support peters out, because like Angie, the Emo Chick, the show sold Kree too hard too soon. Kree and Angie actually being the two best is irrelevant the way this show works. The winners tend to come more from the storyline, and Kree and Angie have bland ones, whereas American eats up that Kellie Pickler shit like its candy. Janelle will go further than Pickler because she's even easier to sell, so if its Janelle and Candace near the end instead of Kree and Angie, I for one won't be very surprised.

I rarely if ever listen to R&B, but I still find all of these voices incredibly distinct, unique, and not at all interchangeable. In fact, I find it problematic to lump a bunch of black singers together and say they're interchangeable.
Idol isn't going to dig up never-before-seen types of singers for the show every single season. At the end of the day, most of them are derivatives not only of who's been on the show, but who's in the music industry.
If Doolittle, Hudson, Davis and Rounds had each won their respective seasons, then yes, it would become dull and predictable to have Glover win this one - not because they're interchangeable, but because they sing similar songs and appeal to similar demographics. Just the same, it's repetitive and boring to have 5 WGWGs (who are also not necessarily "interchangeable") win consecutively.
However: a contestant like Candice has never won Idol. Kelly, Fantasia and Jordin have elements of Candice's style, but Candice would be a completely unique and welcome winner to the roster, IMO.
Candice is my personal favorite, but Kree or Angie would also be a fresh new face for the Idol title.

ITA.
And I know Melinda Doolittle didn't go the R&B route. I believe she went the gospel route instead, and is doing relatively well. So that already sets her apart from at least one of the "interchangeable" black singer - JHud.
For Candice to have a career, she'll need to win, like Fantasia did.
Yes, she'll need to win. I'm not sure about her chances on that either. But what I like so far is that she's been prone to do different styles, like Kree, than just what the judges and/or public expect her too.

It's refreshing that someone has a somewhat "normal" life on this show.
I actually find it fascinating that she lives on some tiny island in the Atlantic that I'd never heard of before with a population of, what, 2000? That is kind of bizarre and very cool.

One thing I do like about AI by comparison is that it does try to offer diversity. We normally aren't given cookie cutters.
For me, Jhud, Fantasia, and Melinda are very distinct - as are Candice and Amber. (sidenote: For my tastes, Jhud's voice is the most generic and most boring of the bunch; her personality, on the other hand, is the best).
Candice' version of Ordinary People is one of my all time favorite Idol auditions. She is, at this juncture, my favorite.

Allow me to disagree. This season all we have been given are cookie cutters. The entire top 10, even Candice. I like a few of them, but they hardly seem unique or edgy.
The same last season.
I just wish the best cookie cutter would win and this season that's Candice. (Although Angie could surprise me, I suppose.)

I'm not even betting that she'll win, but after tonight, I feel pretty certain that she has a pretty good singing career in front of her.
I'm not betting Candice will win either - though I think she deserves to. She will most likely be Melinda'd out in a few weeks. Last night was probably as good as it will get for her and will have to serve as her version of the IDOL championship. One of the remaining white chicks will probably win. My feeling is that Candice will go the gospel or musical theater route. R&B is not all that commercial anymore, unless you feature a name rap artist on your track.

I don't think she'll be pegged into gospel or R&B because I think her voice is more versatile than that and, based on her song choices, she seems to appreciate a wider range of music (of course if she likes either of those genres, then so be it). I'd definitely buy her CD, but I can also see her doing musical theater, or opening for John Legend or someone like that. And I just love that she's not a diva belter which seems to doom so many black female singers. She can blow, but she knows when and, more importantly, how--to do it. I love the nuance in her voice.
I agree that one of the remaining white chicks will probably win. Actually, I like Kree's voice so I wouldn't mind if she were the white chick that won, although my main issue with her is that I find her boring; there's no fire there.

I am. I know the score. I've been watching this show since the first season, and (sans the first two seasons, and perhaps one more) contestants like Candice who should be viewed as Mentors or examples to the other contestants, don't tend to last beyond third or second place. Yet, as fruitless as the endeavor may be, all my support is going to Candice, for the sake of the integrity of this form of art that I love so much.I'm going to at least TRY to get her there with my votes!! Who's with me?
Perhaps it has not been seen by the producers yet, but Candice's performance arc is telling a story. After last week's revelation that no matter how talented she was and how hard she worked, she was still regarded as a 'middle-of-the-pack' contestant by most of the judges and probably the powers of the show, this week she comes back with an emotive, pleading performance of "Don't Make Me Over" (a poignant song choice), then makes her concluding statement by leaving everything on the stage...giving one of the greatest performances in the history of the show. (Seriously, I don't recall ever seeing a pre-finale audience reaction like that on this show.) This is a story.
Will the show change its opinion of her, or continue to push package over substance? Who knows. The show makes no secret that it is searching for superstars, and there are many superstars of popular music today who are such based more on the commercial factor than the talent. Win or lose on this show, I completely believe Candice will be fine. With the inherent talent that she has, she has the opportunity to have a long-lasting and well-respected career, like Gladys Knight.

As for her fashion sense, she's at the beginning w/ time to improve. Remember what Jennifer Hudson use to look like on AI? Today, she's Fabulous.

When she was singing "Love Song," I thought she was so sexy standing up there. It's like you could see the fire in her eyes (and I'm a straight woman, lol).

Some of the things she wears aren't cool, but there's nothing wrong with wearing tight pants to show off your curves. Some men love thick thighs, and hips. MMV! As a fellow plus size girl, she could pick better shirts. The pants (some) are ok, but the shirts and the jackets...they need to go! I think she's worn maybe 2 or 3 shirts that were cute.

Just a few songs that could become "moments" if she performed them.
You Found Me - The Fray
Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
Don't Speak - No Doubt
Home - Stephanie Mills
Roxanne - The Police
