Ted becomes reluctant to end the relationship with his unstable crazy girlfriend, Jeanette; Robin becomes instantly attached to Marvin after finally holding him for the first time, causing her to start thinking about motherhood.

It's so great that Ted is going to finally quit goofing around buying houses and proposing to women and so on, and get serious about settling down.

This kind of felt like a filler episode. Odd Lily talked to Robin for forty seconds then was able to chase down a bus that already left. I assume she was fast enough to catch it at the next stop (which would never happen in real life), so that would realistically be at best a block up. Then took at least fifteen minutes or more to get back to Robin and Marvin.

The show description only covered the Robin piece of connecting with Marvin at the very end.

It seems odd the crazy girl set up these elaborate year long schemes and contrived careful things to get Ted. But when she did acted bananas and set about pushing him away and being destructive. And that they have dated at least a week or two and he didn't know what she did for a living. Or that a cop would set a fire, or scream at strangers she'd kill them randomly.

I guess this is a huge thing set up to convince Ted to settle down. Gross when Ted was telling the kids about enjoying being single and the flashbacks of all different women and seductions. Eww. I'm sure his kids got the gist from the worlds longest story he's been telling of his many conquests.

Anyone catch the "Get a Life" reference when they gave Jeanette the last name "Peterson?" Abby Elliot's father's and grandfather's characters in "Get a Life" were named Chris Peterson and Bob Peterson respectively. Bays and Thomas are old enough to have been fans of "Get a Life" so I don't think it's a coincidence.

Also, if Jeanette really is a cop, wouldn't she have easier ways of finding Ted? Couldn't she pull his driver's license or something?

the flash-forwards to Robin telling Lilly what really happened that day started to wear after a while, but the pay-off of having it be Mike Tyson was pretty funny. I thought it was going to be some random homeless dude. I like that she didn't even realize it was Mike Tyson until after they were already in the strip club. Also, SENATOR Mike Tyson?! Hee!

And count me in on thinking Ted is a gross, pathetic loser now. I loved him early on, when he was sincere and romantic, even if a little over-the-top. Now he's just gross. He's behaving how you'd expect someone in their early 20s to act and then grow out of. Instead, he's regressing into that kind of person.

Another OK filler episode. Nothing really stood out to me, but I didn't find myself groaning or just plain embarrassed for the actors.

I laughed at Senator Mike Tyson and the various things that Marshall and Barney brought to store at Ted's place.

I don't get why Ted is sticking with an over-the-top psycho like Jeanette, or why Lily would encourage him to stay with said psycho a while longer. I thought Lily was going to go in the direction of, "She clearly needs some compassion, so rather than break it off with her just show her some kindness for a while," but it seems more like Lily just wants Ted to get all the crazy out of his system. Or just fool around and have a good time with her.

I wonder if making Jeanette such a wacko is simply to make The Mother seem better by comparison?

In the flash-forwards with Robin and Lily, I didn't think to look for a wedding ring on Robin until the final scene, and by that point I noticed that she was only using her right hand. Did anyone of you happen to catch her left hand?

I'm *very* glad to hear confirmation that this is the final go-nowhere relationship of Ted's that we have to sit through before he meets The Mother, and that (coupled with the flash-forward with them all sitting on the sidewalk surrounded by fire) makes me think that he's going to meet her this May and we'll see them date throughout Season 9.

Amen to that! Honestly, most of the episode felt like a waste of time. The scenes of Robin confessing more and more about the event to Lily as the years went by didn't seem very funny. It seemed like a way to stretch out the story and the Mike Tyson guest appearance to fill more of the half hour than it would have filled otherwise. I've been skipping some episodes this season out of weariness, maybe it's time to skip some more.

I felt that Mike Tyson did fine in his guest appearance, although I can't say that the role was the most challenging. But he just made a guest appearance in a dramatic role, in Law and Order SVU on NBC, and he did okay there as well. For all I know he may do well in a later life career as an actor.

That will be the ONLY reason I'd stick around for season 9. This episode was PAINFUL. The little reveals got old quickly. I did like that it was Mike Tyson but it really felt like it took too long to get there.

Ugg, I thought this eppy was awful. I don't get any chemistry between Ted and Jeannette, and can't seen anyone encouraging him to stay with someone so crazy. Also, Ted talked about finally wanting to settle down... but this is the guy who has wanted to get married since the first episode. And the Robin/Lilly flashforwards were painfully unfunny. I usually find even the "bad" episodes of this show funny, but this is probably one of the worst ones I've ever seen.

I didn't really care for this episode. I don't usually get to watch this with Mr. Mountain but he was home last night so we watched together and there were f
A few laugh out loud moments for us,

I liked seeing Ted dressed up in the costume to go reclaim his bedroom as well as the visual of the guys bringing all their stuff over to Ted's, especially Barney carrying both ends of the canoe.

I also laughed out loud at Marshall's bit of physical comedy when he opened the door and saw Teds girlfriend standing there.

Everything else was underwhelming.

Robin and Lilly both age well over the next 16 years, don't they? Basically their only change is that they wear their hair up?

Although now that I think about it (why?), are any of Saget!Ted's kids 16? Or did we jump further into the future than Saget!Ted?

Depending on the route, it's entirely possible to walk and catch up with an NYC bus (especially crosstown). But I assumed Lily had to hail a cab to catch up with the bus, then walked back. That could easily take up that time.

Robin and Lilly both age well over the next 16 years, don't they? Basically their only change is that they wear their hair up?

And they speak very fancy when they're older. Seriously, what the hell was up with their voices?

The daughter is probably 15 or 16 when Future Ted is telling the kids the story. We know from Trilogy Time that she's an infant in 2015.

Despite the old lady turning out to be Mike Tyson, I liked the episode. I liked that Robin kept revealing more information over the years. Ted not actually breaking up with Officer Jeannette was funny. I would be annoyed at this storyline if it wasn't for the fact that at least this was about Ted and Ted dating someone and Ted having a life and storyline about him. I also liked that Lily was all "go be crazy, get it out of your system." Despite the flashbacks making it seem like Ted was this wild and crazy guy this whole time, he only really had one episode like that. The St. Patrick's day ep. Any other time Ted was with a woman it was all about finding the One. So I'm ok with him being with the crazy chick for a little bit.

I couldn't laugh at Senator Mike Tyson (or anything else in this episode, really). I fail to understand why a convicted rapist, wifebeater and a man who viciously and intentionally bit off a man's ear in a professional boxing match (with no acting skills) has suddenly been given a second chance at fame with an acting career.

Word. The man is an animal and it's sickening to watch this PR rehabilitation he has going for him.

I'm generally OK with people casually being called "crazy" but it was just grating in this episode. Way to stigmatize mental problems.

Hey mbd -- The flash-forward scenes shows only Robin's left hand, holding her wine glass. She seemed to be sitting on her right hand. In any case, it was never shown.

I also wondered how Ted could NOT know his date was a police officer. Aside from the shift work and uniform-wearing, isn't 'so, what do you do for a living?' still a standard first conversation question?

Yea what the hell was THAT about?

Did I actually hear Mike Tyson give Robin advice about women or dating or something in the strip club? Some line of him giving her advice? Really?

Exactly. What's worse, the show writers had the women of the show whitewash Tyson's sins -- Robin says he's great with babies; Lily is awestruck by him and thrilled he held her child. Not to mention, he's supposedly a senator.

I understand the argument that people who've served time shouldn't be punished forever. I'm even fine with Mike Tyson getting acting jobs if he's earned them. But to rewrite him as a beloved public figure, especially in the eyes of women, is just sick and wrong.

I thought that was supposed to be ironic- that when he was saying that when you see a crazy woman, her boyfriend's even crazier, that it was a comment on himself. And that's also when Robin said "Are you Mike Tyson?" like somehow that's what made her realize who he was?

Oh. Thank you! I remember hearing that and cringing given MT's history. And the context that Ted's gf is nuts and Ted's decidedly not and should not even be the same conversation as Mike Tyson's love life past. Oy!

I watched the future scenes very carefully and they deliberately did not show Robin's left hand. I just can't see her married to Barney but its entirely possible in the next 17 years at some point she'd marry someone. But I think they hid it on purpose. Future Robin and Future Lily sure love that window seat and wine. All the Marvin only talk indicates he will always be an only child.

IIRC, in the flash-forward scene where Marshall was carving a Thanksgiving turkey with a lightsaber, there were several children around the dinner table.

Apparently Jeanette went from "obsessive stalker" to "emotionally and behaviorally dysregulated" in one episode. And, yeah, Ted has been saying since the pilot episode that he wants to settle down and get married, so why is it taking so long?

I felt really bad when he talked about their "couples' club." Wish the show would explore more of that (Ted being the only single one when he's the one who's wanted to get married from day one) instead of manufacturing drama like they're currently doing.

Oh, and apparently the Mother isn't invited to Lily and Robin's wine drinking gatherings. Maybe she's lucky for that.

Didn't look for a ring during the flash forwards as I was too busy marveling over the fact that they couldn't be bothered to age Robin or Lily (though I happen to think both look older than their characters are supposed to be in the present day). Also, the flash forwards were painful, along with the rest of the episode.

Ted is now a HUGE LOSER. Who would be rooting for him at this point?

I thought there was something like that in his past, but I figured I had the wrong person since surely a sitcom that could hire anyone at all wouldn't resort to a wifebeating rapist for their stunt casting. And make him a senator, to boot.

Add me to those who hated the fact that the show said that a convicted rapist can become a Senator. Considering the facts behind the rape, I was uncomfortable with him taking Robin to a strip club.

The whole wedding ring thing doesn't bother me. My husband hated wearing rings, so he never wore his and I have huge allergies and my wedding ring always irritated my hands, so someone can not wear a wedding ring and still be married. I've seen the shot of Robin not wearing a ring, but it could be explained away or maybe they don't get married or maybe they divorce. I'll wait and see.

And in the same episode feature the other storyline where a part of a couple violently destroys everything and uses her power as a cop to make it sure that there are no reprecussions for that violence. Switch the genders and it's a Lifetime movie based on actual events where a female Ted either ends up dead or helps to change the system.
