Sooooo many shenanigans! Wow.

TPTB took away the whole group formation drama? Unreal. Beyond stoopid. Thanks for nothing, Uncle Nigel.

Group B all got through? Farce.

My favorite was definitely the trio.

While Lazaro was a genuine issue for his group, the two that got sent home had bad tonality for that Beach Boys song. Lazaro had not a thing to do with that. I would have only sent the 17 yr old through in that group, though.

Remarkably, they got it right with Oz. Frankie did not do Hollyweird. The others did not deserve that crap.

HOLLYWOOD ROUND. They're changing it up this time:

This week: All guys; Solo, Guy Groups & a second Solo.
Next week: All girls; Solo, Girl Groups, and a second Solo.

It was a hot mess tonight.

Johnny Keyser made a risky choice, but he still made it through.
David Jr. made it though! He lost at the Top 40 last year, so I'm hoping he makes it this time.
Nate Tao made it! Yay!
Paul Jolley makes it!
Josh Holiday makes it!
LAZARO MAKES IT. But they totally backhanded him.
Charlie makes it!

Glad Kayden didn't make it. This isn't a competition for him. I do feel bad for his terminal disease though. Sad no Griffin either, and many others. Yet most of them didn't stand out.

Some people, I wish got eliminated. They're... just scary. Even Papa Peaches; he made it.

Tomorrow is Part 2 of the Guys, and they're getting cut to 20. Daaang.

So many tears, I felt like I was Eric Cartman to the contestants Scott Tenorman.

I thought Nikki was trolling Idol when she convinced the judges to get the Turbanator's group through at first. But, then I did agree with her reasoning that she gave the group backstage to a point.

Overall, I wasn't sad to see anyone go who went.

Someone needs to cattle prod Mariah. Wake up, Darling!

I'll hate myself in the morning, but Randy made me laugh during the "Payphone" song when he said "Hang up the damn phone!"

So, more of this sausage fest tomorrow? OK.

Frankie has no one to blame but himself. Ditto Sergeant Dude.

Yay Charlie made it through!

As for me, Keith, I don't feel sorry for Adam Levine - he inflicted that awful song on us.

But he did show the divide when he knew the Sixties song and Nikki didn't ...the contestants are Nikki. That said, you have the song on your iDevice plus a vocal coach and you can't learn ONE song?

I was kind of unimpressed this whole episode. No one really wowed me. At least not in a good way.

Who was that guy that sung that Whitney Houston song? Good voice but I disliked him from the start for simply singing that song.

What a sore loser that guy was in Lazaro's group. I mean, to go up to him and say "You should go through because we spent so much time perfecting you" was kind of unnecessary.

I liked Curtis Finch's group. Thought Curtis killed it. But he lost me when he started talking bad about Charlie Askew. Maybe he was just joking around.

I'm confused as to how some people who forgot the lyrics made it through but the others didn't?

I'm crying with joy that there isn't any Phillip Phillips' or Scotty Mcreery's that are gonna walk straight to a win this year!

I don't know about that. Talent aside, I'm sure most people would find Johnny Keyser attractive and vote for him because of it. Lazaro simply tugs at your heart-strings and he has a good voice. I can see him making it far on a butt load of sympathy votes. I'm not saying either of them will win. But of what I've seen so far, they are the boys that I can see lasting awhile if they make the semifinals--assuming they don't crash and burn. I could throw in Paul Jolley too, but they barely showed him tonight so I don't know about him.

Johnny Keyser seems like a real douchebag, and I don't find him attractive. Lazaro is sweet but I kind of wish he would stop crying.

Super excited to see David Leathers Jr.!

Really liked the group who sang "Hold On I'm Comin!".

I love the kid, and I feel for him, but Lazaro's diction (or rather lack thereof) needs to get him sent home pronto. So he'll probably win the thing.

Standouts for me tonight: Gabe, Curtis Finch (pained to admit it, I want him gone a week gone yesterday), Josh...someone, and Papa Peachez. There were others I liked, but not enough to remember names yet.

LOVED the first Group, they were fantastic and one of my favourite group performances ever.

While I don't think she needs to wake up or anything, why should she say anything when Nicki will rudely interrupt you if she disagrees with you. Nicki's personally disgusted by that guy who sang 'I Will Always Love You.' How dare anyone else (Mariah) praise him? I mean, she's so disgusted. She got to tell that to their face right now!

Maybe she's just disgusted that that guy looks 'normal. Anyone weird and quirky? She'll fight tooth and nail for them, even if they don't deserve to go through to the next round.

I cannot believe they let the Turbanator's group through. They were horrible. What is wrong with Nicki? Well, beyond the obvious. It sounded to me like the ones they cut were better than the ones they put through.

Well, till the One Direction song.

Wow, that guy on Lazaro's group was a dick. "The only reason you went through is because we helped you so much."

I think that Army sergeant had a big problem teaming up with two gay guys. And he was horrible. That guy's name was JDA?

Frankie was a jerk and deserves to be gone. It's everybody else's fault that he was awful? They sabotaged him? And yet he gets the sad music edit?

I too was confused why some people who forgot the words went on while some didn't. Seemed like Country Queen compromised on a song that none of them knew. I was wondering if they could have tried a mash up of two songs. Didn't like the "I don't care who's sick, I need to look out for myself" guy but he did have a point. I think once you see that you're not going to wow the judges as a group, it might be time to concentrate on just getting yourself through.

The first group was one of my favorites in a while.

I love group night in Hollywood.

I can only agree with the two posters above. Nicki was a bit off the mark this episode.

First, she gives the guy who sang "I Will Always Love You" a NO. Mariah and Keith both say YES, since they tend to go for voice over personality. Mariah is about to tell the guy that he made it through, but Nicki cuts her off and says excuse me, but I just wanted you to know that I personally wanted you to go home. Just to make that clear.

Then later on, Turbinator's group completely botches the "Payphone" song, and Nicki dubs them her favorite group because Turbinator wore a pink turban and the guy with the red scarf in his hair walked up to the front of the stage and did his dance. And even though he forgot the words, his personality shined through. She is then shown giving them a pep talk where she pretty much pats them on the back and says that it's OK that you were off key and forgot the lyrics as long as you were entertaining and personable. Priorities.

Somehow, they ALL make it through (Nicki must have magic powers or something). Then after that horrible group makes it through, Keith realizes they don't have too much space left and he says now they have to REALLY start getting strict. Nicki then fights for Papa Peaches, who was terrible, to stay, and somehow magically gets another judge to vote with her.

I also would like to say that I think the forced groups was a terrible idea. If someone chose to be a part of a group that sucked, then they deserved it. But I think a lot of good people fall through the cracks when they end up in a terrible group that they would never have gravitated to in the first place. Wouldn't you get better harmonies and better performances if you let like-minded people form their own groups?

I also think forcing the two gay guys in the same group with the two country guys was definitely a stunt. Just like casting Nicki Minaj when Mariah Carey made it known she didn't like her was a stunt. I see you Nigel.

The first group was easily the best of the night, and one of the best I've ever heard on this show. That they got so in synch with each other in just one night is amazing. So of course I'm betting that none of them will make it through the next round.

The Turbanators all going through made a mockery of the whole group night.. They were terrible as a group and as individuals and forgot the lyrics. What did they need to do to get sent home? And how unfair is it to give them all a pass and then say, "okay, NOW we're going to raise the bar." It was like giving someone a 9.5 in a gymastics competition, saying "no more high scores," and then giving someone who did the exact same routine a 3.

As someone else posted, Nicki's main criteria seems to be personality and/or "out there" appearance.

When one of the guys in Lazaro's group asked him if understood something, I wondered if he thought he had a hearing problem. It seemed to me that they were exagerrating the issue with Lazaro not knowing the lyrics so they'd have an available scapegoat. I think he deserved to continue because he has a really lovely tone to his voice. With so many of the groups falling apart as groups, sometimes that what you have to listen for.

Frankly I'm just so disgusted at how racist Idol is being with the whole Turbanator thing. Yes, he is the one who called himself that during the audition, but he said it ONCE, likely just to get a laugh out of the judges - I hardly think he wanted that to define him for the rest of the show! During the audition show, they even did a whole graphic thing and made his eyes red...I'm sure the Idol producers knew the hick Americans (their largest demographic, probably) would LOVE that, as someone wearing a turban is bound to have devilish qualities, right? He'll probably blow up the joint since Sikhs and Muslims are all the same and basically anyone ethnic is evil?

I'm not one to harp on racism, but now the poor kid has been defined by his turban, when I'm sure all he wanted was for his voice to shine. Of course, if it weren't for the turban, he would likely get no airtime, so perhaps he's okay with this edit...I just feel bad that even people in this forum are referring to his group as the Turbanators (totally don't blame any of you for doing so, as unfortunately, that's his group's identity now), but I'm shocked that Seacrest even agreed to continue the blatant racism during this show. Just goes to show what lengths they'll go to in order to exploit someone.

Yes, the CF boy is gone. WAAAY too young, and it ahowed.

You wear a turban, it's going to define you (but James Durbin can't be happy, heh). In any event, that entire group by rights and by Simon should have been booted. But then the show would have lost Papa Peachez!

I, too, missed the DRAH-MA that usually accompanied Group Nights. Very unusual decision for a Reality Show!

Still love Lazaro, lyrics be darned, and I'm Just Short Matheus has a fabulous voice.

But David Leathers is my BOY!

Who was that guy that sung that Whitney Houston song? Good voice but I disliked him from the start for simply singing that song.

That was Cortez Shaw. He made it deep into Hollywood week last year. Maybe the green mile episode but I'm not positive about that. He's from the Dallas area so I remember him as the local guy last year. I started following him on twitter last year. After Whitney Houston died he posted a cover of I Will Always Love You to youtube. He seems to have removed it or made it private. Based on the video I saw, I can understand why he tried to show off with that song. His youtube video of it was amazing. Granted, the reaction of the judges didn't turn out the way he hoped but he got through to the next round, no thanks to Ms. Minaj.

Maybe she's just disgusted that that guy looks 'normal.

LOL. If this singing thing doesn't work out for him Cortez should model....he's way beyond normal, imo.

I'm torn about the decision for the producers to form the groups. On the one hand it kept the contestants from gravitating together on their own with similar ideas and musical backgrounds, etc. On the other hand, we were spared the sad stories of ostracized contestants and the groups were forced to get to work right away.

I have never seen such a mess as this episode last night of American Idol. American Idol has become a joke this season to me, and that is helped along by the ridiculousness of Nicki Minaj as a judge.

I guess I'm supposed to feel sorry for the stuttering boy. But I don't. I've even gotten cynical enough about all the many, many sob stories to think he's purposely overdoing it to make you feel sorry for him (because the producers told him to do that). I also don't find him to be a good singer.

Not one singer shines through for me.

In Sgt. Dude's defense, he did blame himself, not the others in his group. On camera at least.

There was a whole lot of suckage last night. I'd have sent B-Side, Johnny Keyser's group and all of Country Queen home. Totally thought Mario whatever should've stayed, and I would've put Too Much Coke guy through to the group round and booted Whitney Screaming guy instead, but oh well. There were a few bright sparks, but not many. And way too many churchy-not quite gospel shouters this time; hopefully they'll get thinned out tomorrow.

At least Keith Urban looked pretty.

And yeah, I feel kinda dirty saying it, but I loved Randy's "hang up the damn phone" line.

If it was based only on who sang well and gelled as a group, they deserved to go home. But... I confess that I found them really entertaining in a "so bad it's good" kind of way. I think I get why they, and not some other trainwreck groups - made it to the next round.

I loved Math Heads! I'm sure they put the shortest contestant with three of the biggest guys there for giggles, but they rocked as a group, picked a great song and just had the right amount of personal flourish to make it interesting without being over the top.

I guess Nigel thought putting two burly country boys with two glittery guys was ha-ha funny, but it wasn't really. I agree with the judges' decision, but I didn't love the group. I loved the name Country Queen, though.

I thought Charlie held his own quite well with those big gospelly voices, and while I think Finch(?) has a great voice, he's a douche.

I adore little Lazaro. I understand why his teammates were frustrated with him, but I think he the potential to be a Latin pop star that the girls will love - even with his stutter. It'll be interesting to see how far he goes.

Frankly I'm just so disgusted at how racist Idol is being with the whole Turbanator thing. Is it racist or just typical Idol overkill? Any schtick they can exploit for effect they will over, and over and over again.
