LEAD BY EXAMPLE (TV-PG)
AUSTRALIAN POP SINGER CODY SIMPSON AND WORLD CHAMPION FIGHTER LAILA ALI GUEST STAR -- It’s the halfway point in the season, and the contestants find out that the weight of only one player on each team will count this week, but they won’t know who it will be until the weigh-in. With this week’s theme of “Leading by example,” trainers Bob, Jillian and Dolvett skype with kid participants Biingo, Sunny and Lindsay, and motivate each one to do just that. While Sunny creates a circuit training routine for her fellow classmates, Biingo tries to recruit more friends to his after-school sports club. Lindsay gives an anti-bullying speech to her peers, joined by special guest Cody Simpson, who also talks about his experience being teased before performing for the kids. The adult contestants compete in a crazy challenge requiring them to avoid three swinging pendulums while walking on a balance beam to retrieve calorie-coded plates matching five specific dishes. Later, during last chance workouts, Dolvett’s team has a special visit with five-time undefeated world champion fighter Laila Ali, who put them through a fun and challenging boxing workout.

I'm new to this show, but on tonight's show, for example, why is it that after the individual's weigh-in the men get to put their cover-up shirts back on and the women have to stand there in the ridiculous sports bra?

Finally a Blue person goes home, but too bad it's David. But good for him for losing over 80 pounds! He looks really good. Danni's my favorite one so far - I hope she goes all the way. Joe is looking very handsome.

That challenge was pretty funny - seeing Patrick and Gina continually getting knocked off - ha! ha! Good for Danni for winning.

Lindsay is very sweet - she's my favorite of the kids. It's hard to tell if she's losing weight because her clothes are baggy. Also kids that age can be kind of lumpy before a growth spurt. I can tell Sunny's taking off weight. I don't see it yet with Biingo.

Voyeurism. I don't know how to explain it but it seems kind of a put-down to the women. The men get to be covered so we don't see the big bellies except for the actual weigh-in, but the women's curves have to be on view. It's kind of sexist. That's my take on it. There's no reason why the women can't be wearing t-shirts over their sports bras.

Was it just my TV or did Alison have a red fabric/scrunchie thing in her hair? I couldn't tell, but all I could think of was "Heathers."

Go Danni! I was rooting for the blue team to get their comeuppance. Jeff is a big jerk.

Oh man, David's daughter has Rhett Syndrome. That is so sad and such hard work for the family.

Has anyone here seen the movie Bottle Rocket? I swear that David is Bob Maplethorpe's dad. They look and sound alike. I just accepted it and was surprised that when he went home, Bob wasn't there.

Biingo just bugs.

I was appalled at the way Bob was treating Blonde blue team member (sorry, can't remember her name). He was being a total jackass. Especially with all the 'bully' talk this season. Bob needs to look in the mirror and realize he's the biggest one on campus. When she said she was hoping to not have to be the one to weigh in for the team and he ripped her apart-- He has no way to relate to the insecurities she feels when it comes to weight loss. He should be more empathetic to the struggles the contestants face.

And yes, Sami dyed the ends of her hair fuschia. Rather sassy!

Laila Ali is stunning -- I mean, she's got it all. She's smart, beautiful, tough, and determined. Bet she was fun to work out with.

I really like Danni and Francelina and would be thrilled if either one of them won. Jackson is sweet and has a cute face and I hope he goes far, too.

The kids are also cute but Lindsay is a real beauty. Hopefully her rally against bullying changed some minds and made her tormenters feel terrible for being crappy human beings.

David looked amazing. Good for him for getting healthy for himself and his family.

Pam reminds me of a younger Roseanne Barr.

Big surprise David got voted off. He was the only contestant I could stand. He looks good in his uniform. I hope he wins the at home prize.

Jackson and Gina getting knocked off the platform. Funny!!! Even without being overweight and gay, Jackson still would be picked on. I find it funny that he blames others for his team losing weigh-ins. Seriously... He needs to go home.

Biingo is Bob's kid. Why am I not surprised. I can not stand him at all.

Next week, Jillian attempts to save Jeff by telling him his dad's death cause his weight problem. Oh, goody!!! Talk about beating the poor dead horse.

Did anyone else notice how much of Jackson's sweat got on Dolvett's shirt when they hugged?! It was like a two second hug and Dolvett comes away dripping! EWW.

Love Danni. Was starting to love David and am sad he had to leave. Jeff is more and more of an asshole each week. I mostly like Joe, but he was totally scoping Laila Ali. Put the kibosh on creeper mode, Joe.

Things I noticed - women getting their hair braided in front. People falling down a lot - did they get hurt getting bashed by those things knocking them off the balance beam & what kind of surface were they falling on? Ouch!

Gina - stop crying! David - nice policeman! Wish you were not gone because you were a nice guy genuinely.

Were they beginning to water load? The tip off - they knew all but one person would be responsible for the weight loss. Was this the week to take that chance? Or is the law of averages just catching up to their body doing a weight loss plateau?

Next time they do the weigh in - watch their tummies. Francelina's tummy is starting to roll over her belly button, the way her skin is starting to do that, I wonder if that is a sign of sagging skin that happens when you lose weight too fast, like when people have weight loss surgery, the skin does not bounce back and begins to droop where they have to surgically get rid of it. I wonder if their tummies rolling over the belly button is a sign the skin is losing weight too fast.

I would be too scared to do some of those things they make the contestants do - i.e. that huge drop into the pile of blue foam things with Danielle in that fun running room (that guy managing that thing was cool to watch!)

Why is Jackson vomiting so much? He might need to go to the doctor. This does not seem normal.

I was laughing through the weigh-in, when I realized that in the close shots, from the waist up, Ali's dress made her look just like Julie Andrews in the opening scene from The Sound of Music.
And she was still wearing the dress in the preview.

The challenge looked like it was designed to use as much time as possible, and it certainly did.

I thought Jackson had gotten over throwing up all the time. Didn't he tell us that last week?

Not to mention a great dancer - one of my favorite DWTS contestants of all time - and I love seeing her on any show she pops up on.

Danni is a machine! I'm worried though that she'll have a bad week soon and will have to leave.

The kids are also cute but Lindsay is a real beauty. Hopefully her rally against bullying changed some minds and made her tormenters feel terrible for being crappy human beings.

I agree, she's gorgeous. I doubt that she changed the bullies' minds though. You can't shame the shameless.

It was obvious Danni was going to win the challenge, Gina and Jackson are completely worthless at anything even vaguely athletic (although Jackson did better than I expected). I don't think that the best thing for an obese girl to do to stop bullying is to have everyone come to the gym so she can give a lecture on bullying - I don't see that working out for her at all.

I loved Jackson commenting on his picture on the die - "that Jackson threw up at every workout" and then watching Jackson continue to throw up at the workout. Although I think there must be something going on here - he shouldn't be throwing up every workout (and with all the barfing he's doing he should be dehydrated and putting up better numbers, right?).

Bob's team finally had a collectively bad week and sent someone home. Too bad it wasn't Gina but I would have gotten rid of the guy who doesn't work out with the team and can't compete in challenges as well.

"When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking." Even though this rule doesn't apply to the two ii's in Biingo, Ramble Jr. saw the signs with the two ii's & sang the rule & we made fun of him, calling him Bye-ngo all night. I guess we needed to be at the (pitiful) anti-bullying assembly, which I felt like was another cheerleader TV moment. Agree to not bully cause you're on TV ok? Sure, I believe! My viewpoint's definitely changed! I'll never be mean again. Now which camera should I look at when you do my close-up? But yea for the Cody Simpson. Ramble Jr. the Second watched the show for that couple of minutes. Normally she won't watch with me & calls it "that sad show where fat people try to become someone else & cry a lot & get yelled at".

Poor David. I knew was gone as soon as Bob rolled the doomed dice. He looked amazing in his after though & I would love to see him win the at home prize. He seemed like a genuinely nice person who had a real desire to improve. It also seemed like he learned early how to go at it alone due to his injury. Probably serving him well now.

Speaking of reveals... Damn girl! Shut up! Seriously shut up! It's not cute or funny or inventive anymore. It's damn annoying & you didn't look like all that anyway.

Laila Ali is gorgeous. My eyes were almost overcome by the pretty of her & lovely Dolvett in the room. Fortunately skeevy Mr. I Used to be an Athlete was there to save my sight.

Bob is beginning to bug me on the level of last year's winner's sister, whose name I've intentionally blocked. Geez, Bob do something different for awhile. Turn down the annoyometer.

I liked Jillian acting like she was enjoying working out with Dani. I don't know if it's true or not, but it was nice to watch. Jumping into the foam pit looked like lots of fun. Sign me up for that. The running & jumping over junk, not so much. It was fun to see that guy do it though.

I realized last night as the Blues were voting that I didn't miss the vote plotting talk at all. It's taken a few episodes to adjust, but I think I like the kinder, gentler TBL. I wouldn't mind seeing some of the scheming, but if I had to chose between this paler shade of shenanigans & the crap that was last season, I'll take this flavor. Even the extra reveals mid-season feel like TPTB have tried to find the encouragement button & keep pressing it. Hopefully they'll find a middle ground & let a little more personality shine through, but overall I'm good with it.

Yay on blue finally having a loss and needing to send someone home. I really wish the show would use the "voting booth" as a way to do the elimination without the "justification" speeches. Just do the votes, display the board, and show the number of votes for each contestant.

Next week the show goes from teams to [nominal] individuals. I kind of wish there were another week of teams with one more blue elimination, because I can't help thinking the contestants will still operate as de facto teams, as they have in the past. And it's likely that we'll still have the "Bob" team-Kool-Aid effect. You just know that Bob will pressure "his" blues to vote as a block and pick off non-blues.

I loved the Laila Ali segment. I actually did the moves along with the contestants, because I love "boxing" workouts. The only downside was that I had trouble sleeping after getting the adrenaline going. Jillian's last-chance workout with Danni looked like fun. I've utterly forgotten what Bob had his team doing for theirs.

The challenge made me think of the ABC show, Wipe Out, of which I've seen maybe 3 minutes because I couldn't believe a major network would air something like that.

I called it last week: the die roll was to buy time for Danni and the white team, then they'd reconfigure next week. And the previews show that they will reconfigure next week.

This particular blue team doesn't seem exceedingly loyal to each other compared to past blue teams. The group I expect to stick together behind the scenes is the red team, which seems to have bonded very well.

Danni's workout looked like fun, and it looks like Jillian is having fun with her. This is the first time I've had the impression that Jillian herself has actually learned something from a contestant.

Laila Ali is gorgeous.

It's not from losing weight too fast; it's just from losing a substantial amount of weight. Francelina (whom I really, really like. She is so lovely and I adore her hair, especially when she has the time to style it) lost a lot of weight before the show and is still losing. She is going to have skin issues that other folks won't because of the amount of weight she has lost, not because of the speed. I can see it in her arms, too. I have lost 120 lbs and have about another hundred to lose, and have loose skin the way she does. There is nothing she could do differently to change her skin and it is definitely not because she is losing too fast. It's just because she's lost so much.

I am not a medical person, but I have wondered if Jackson has gastric reflux disease and possibly a hiatal hernia; you would think Dr Doom would have mentioned it, but then... I do wonder if he waterloaded because he figured the die would not roll against him two times in a row.

I like Danni and am meh about the rest of the pack. As an attorney, I wanted to like Gina, but I find her annoying. I had started to like the girl who went home last week. Was that Pam that they showed again for another reveal? I thought she had already shown us her makeover. I was not impressed this week. And I wasn't too impressed with the blue policeman who went home last night (sorry, but I still am having name recall issues), but I changed my mind when I saw his follow-up. I am surprised they let him patrol when he was over 300 pounds. I though cops were supposed to be fit enough to run after criminals, and he certainly didn't seem like he could run more than 10 yards. I thought maybe he had had a desk job, but I think he mentioned going to fast food places while on patrol. Oh well, good for him. His weight loss was obvious, and he looked considerably younger to me.

I was so happy to see a blue team person go. I knew that Jeff wouldn't have a great loss, because he has 1 big week, then a very small loss, and last week he lost 13lbs.
I thought that Alex would be the one to go, they all seemed so mad at her "slacking" off during the work out, but David looks great.

So, with going to singles, it should be a yellow line now. Hopefully Danni can keep it up to stay above it. She is definitely going to have a target unless she has made friends/alliances that we haven't been shown.

There's also a genetic component. Not everyone who loses weight (fast or slow) has awful loose skin issues.

Yeah about the singer- I asked my 18 yr old daughter and she had never heard of this "major pop star". She suggested he belongs on Dancing with the Stars with the other no-names.

Another update on Pam? WHY? Who cares? And that "damn girl" is beyond old. Its just annoying. And they keep filming her from below so we get a big old look at her nostrils. Not sure why.

I was confused on the timing. I thought Ali said they were halfway done with their time on the ranch. Wouldn't that lead to an end of March/beginning of April finale? I thought this show always ended in May. Shorter season?

So I wasn't seeing things - Ali DOES have pink in her hair. Good to know.

Giggled endlessly at the challenge. BOOM! *thud*

Fast forwarded through the whole bullying speech thing. It looked like torture. Oh, maybe that was the teenybopper singer afterwards. Either way, skipped it.

Sunny's face is slimming down nicely. You go, girl!

Knew that David would get the vote once the Blue team finally lost a weigh-in. Very glad to see him doing well at home!

So singles next week? My DVR cut off and I missed the previews. If that's so, then David was right. They should've voted off the biggest threat while they had the chance.

I swear the dice had to have been weighted for the challenge. I mean Danni (Tara 2.0) goes against Gina and Jackson? The most unathletic people in the house? What a coincidence. Don't get me wrong, Danni is my favorite and I'm thrilled that she won yet another challenge, but it seemed like too much of a set up.
