When an undercover investigation into a man savagely attacking other men leads to a murder case, the SVU detectives arrest a man that ADA Barba must prosecute against an unpredictable defense attorney.

Guests: Nia Vardalos, Fred Norris, Raul Esparza, Victoria Rowell

This wasn't a bad episode, I thought that it was rather good. I did chuckle that Fin & Munch did the undercover at the gay bar and not Amaro. I did have a misunderstanding with why the perp assault the men? was it because they lived a false life? or was it because he hated that he was gay? but he was married to the drug dealer? It seemed like the writers didnt know which way to go, but I thought it was a serviceable episode.

I just wanna know what was up with that defense attorney? She was a fruit loop and I thought she would end up being a key factor in the storyline.

Aha! I knew that was "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" as the defense attorney and "Diagnosis Murder" as the judge!

I kept thinking we were going to find out her scattered nature was some kind of act to cause the police/da to let their guard down, but they really did nothing with her. It was kind of a waste of a guest star.

The stuff with the jewelry reminded me of another episode from years ago, was it closure part 2? Where the serial rapist guy was married and had been giving trophies from his victims as gifts to his wife and she believed the police once they showed her the info on the jewelry. This seemed like the same plot on some levels, but then plus the hate crime and gay marriage stuff.

Liked this ep. Still love the DA and I love Finn and Rollins (love him and Munch too) as partners.

Hokey line at the end: "You were wrong about him. He doesn't hate women, he hates everyone." Then "He hates himself."

At his trial, he said it was for exactly that reason. He didn't respect that they wouldn't be honest with themselves, about themselves. Though I suspect that part of it was also jealousy in them having the families he wouldn't be able to have himself due to his sexuality.

Given that his husband killed hers, I'm surprised that the widow of the dead victim wasn't at all hostile to the drug dealer.

Decent episode. Actually dealt with a sex crime, so that's a plus. Where is Munch??? He's still in the opening credits, but where the hell is he?

Recognized the dead guys wife as a victim from an early episode...season 1 or 2 I think. They chick who wouldn't name her rapist because he'd gone to her Quaker church and they'd prayed together or something.

I'm not sure of the episode's title, but yes, it was a continuation of a story if not actually a Part 2. I thought of it the moment the DA brought up the spousal privilege. I was surprised that they went so far as to recycle the "trophy jewelry stolen from victim as gift for spouse" bit. In that episode, the wife blew it by going bonkers on the stand, so her husband went free, only to wind up dead, killed by either the wife or one of his former victims who had been stalking him. Or both. They were in cahoots, either way.

I have been watching only intermittently. Is Raul Esparza (the prosecuting attorney) now a regular on the show? If so, anyone know when he started?

Looks like I remembered the title correctly, which shows I have watched way too much law and order in my life: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0629627/

Anyway yes the overall plot was different but the idea of a serial rapist giving trophy jewelry to their spouse, and the spouse not being able to testify as to communication but being able to testify that the jewelry was given to them, and deciding to do so after being confronted with the jewelry and with one of the victims - that was all there in both episodes. The rest of the twists were different, but it was still a very strong similarity.

The whole subplot of the rape victim blaming the police for exposing his secret and ruining his life made me roll my eyes. I was like, dude, you snuck around to have sex with other guys, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

And word about the cheesy line at the end. I don't even remember the last time I even enjoyed this show.

I loved Fin pulling Rollins away from the stripper dude. It was dumb but funny. Rollins is the best.

Finally, a courtroom drama! It's about time.

Agree, thought they wasted that defense attorney's character. Perhaps we'll see her in a future episode.

Liked the episode. Loved every single Fin & Rollins scene. I need more screentime for the two of them.
