I loved the little tan sleeveless dress with the white diagonals that Kate wore during their initial time at SPIN & the work room.
Thought Amanda's LBD was actually great to me for cute, comfy & practical server wear. Yeah, a tiny bit too short, but great.
All the Keepin' It Real stuff was wearable, smart & stylish.
Dream Team's stuff just sucked overall.
Hated Michelle's female server dress. Made her look bulky & unattractive, even with the short length. NO server wants to look less-than-hot when they're working for tips.
It actually looked a bit like Heidi's dress. Heidi needs help. Seriously.
Female servers in a casual place don't wear structured jackets. They scream around the serving floor, to the bar, the kitchen, to the customers, back & forth. They need cool, comfy pieces that they can move in, are easy to wear and easy to launder. Hated it. HATED the stupid Kilt too.
James' boring guy look this week was the male equivalent of his boring girl look last week. One Way Monkey!
I can't imagine how "Using the Lord & Taylor wall thoughfully" would even apply here. Servers don't need purses, statement jewelry or platform sandals....*LOL*
Can these contestants please loose the precious "Two first-name" monikers?. We've had Seth Aaron, Carol Hannah, Jay Nicholas, Anthony Ryan, Laura Kathleen.
Now we have Joseph Aaron. And he's wearing a freakin' Freddy Kreuger Sweater on the Runway!.....AAAARRRghhhh!
But Susan Sarandon looked great.

Love Susan Sarandon - she looks fine as hell! What a neat idea for a social club - balls are her business, and business looks good.
Can't quite put my finger on what it is that our losing team is lacking. Now that the Isle of James is gone that may help, but even with him there's just so many levels of dysfunction going on. I think we all know that we'll be due up for a team shake up here shortly.
Finding Daniel to be very endearing - he's got a positive attitude, a sense of fun, and yet can go bunker to get the job done. I sure hope he's one of the ones left standing.

Thank you! I thought that was just awful, and as our show hostess likes to say, schlumpy. Really, I thought that was worse than the jacket that Funeral Home Lady made. It had fucking snaps on the collar! Cripes, it's not a onsie!

When Tim first described the challenge, I said to the TV, "Design shorts with a built-in apron!" So I was pleased that Layana won with the same idea. But I thought all of Keeping It Real (ugh, that team name) did a really good job. They made outfits that were wearable and comfortable but still stylish, and they got the feel of the brand really well. Kudos to all of them.
I thought I liked Benjamin, but he's kind of a pain in the ass, isn't he? Wish he'd gotten more of a comeuppance than he actually did, but his t-shirt was good enough to keep him out of the bottom, I guess.

I'm not a big Susan Sarandon fan, but I thought she made a pretty good down to earth judge. She was looking for fashion, but was very aware of what would work in her business. Her statement that the guys would not want to wear kilts was kind of refreshing. She just wasn't buying it. Like others, though, I'm surprised she never heard of a skort.
Really liked the winning looks and could see them as stylish but functional. They were very well done.

I don't know any of the contestants yet, but I think one of the women was wearing a necklace from Gretchen's runway collection? It was a woman with medium-length, brown helmet-hair.

Me too! To say that the other designer should win because he has immunity was sweet - you can have immunity and still win! I like gracious people.Finding Daniel to be very endearing - he's got a positive attitude, a sense of fun, and yet can go bunker to

I don't see Cindy lasting very long.
Stan is smart & practical...with a nice dash of snark that I really like.
Salvadore Daniel is a sweetie.
Totally agree with not wanting male wait staff wearing tank tops for hygiene reasons.
But male patrons want to see females servers with cleavage, short skirts & cleavage. Female patrons want to see male servers in tight pants, tight shirts and tight pants.....*LOL*

As for Team KIR, I also liked their ball boy outfit best and thought that should have won. I agree that team as a whole seems to work better and was more thoughtful this challenge, for the most part, in regards to what was needed in addition to what is fashionable. Except that one LBD. In a more upscale nightclub, yes. In a sports/social spot? No way.

Yeah, I didn't think that fit in at all.
I liked the winning look, although I have a small quibble about the longish, tight sleeves. I worked in a sport bar my senior year of college. On game days especially, it was always crowded and hot, so even if it was 30 degrees outside, I would wear shorts. Spin seems to have that same crowded, high enery vibe, so I think those sleeves would bother me. But I think it was cute and would work on girls of different sizes.
I loved how the editors tried to fool us into thinking they announced the assigmnent, had the teams work and then regrouped afterward. Nevermind the clock behind the designers that read 8:40ish in both scenes.
ETA: How has Susan Sarandon never heard of a skort??

Patricia...please shut up...too much talking. Good grief. Also the blond guy, Benjamin. Also Michelle.
A lot of these designers are teeth-grating to me.
Liked Heidi's runway look a lot better than last week. And iI so agree about armpits. I do not want to see anyone's, hairy or otherwise.
Lol Michelle's looked like Heidi's dress.
Benjamin/Cindy was very blah
Am not a fan of men in kilts, if not in Scotland. And a lot of potentially good workers might not want to wear a skirt.
Not crazy about razor backs, but that model was cute with the notepad that they liked, the winning look. Also liked the model.
Looked like Zac blushed when SS talked about the kilt.
A utility skort, lol, ZP made a funny. I like him.
I had a feeling Cindy would be out when Heidi called her dowdy...ouch. That is as bad as it gets. But James was equally bad so either one leaving worked for me. He was annoying but I kind of
felt bad for him.

She should have gone tonight. I hate to say this, because I'm closer to her age than I am to the age of most of the designers, but she doesn't have a clue as to what the challenges are about or what the judges are looking for, nor does she seem to be able to have a creative conversation with her teammates. I'm sure she's a fine dressmaker who can do some nice, albeit conventional, work for a suburban clientele. But she's no designer. The guy who went home isn't either, but at least it looked like he came out of the bunker once in awhile and looked at what was happening in the mall. I don't know what the kilt guy was thinking. If the rest of the team had been stronger, he would have gotten away with the kilt, which was someone else's idea anyway. But did he really think Heidi and Nina would find his crude literalness funny? Has he watched this show? Jeebers.
I would have picked the ball retriever outfit as the win. Not sure why it wasn't except maybe they couldn't decide which person on that mini-team was the winner. A downside of the team concept. I will say, though, that I was purtin' near ready to give up PR, but this new format has sucked me back in.

It's crude and tacky to put the slogan on the crotch?! Hello, the slogan is crude and tacky. He's just following your lead, Susan!
And the uniforms will attract the type of person who can pull it off. See: Hooters. If you're concerned that your staff won't look good in it, maybe you need hotter staff. It's a nightclub/bar in NYC for god's sake -- I'm sure you can find some hotties. Starting with Matt, the model!

I'm in the minority, but I love men in kilts. I personally wear dresses/skirts all the time, and I find them comfortable to wait tables in and do a lot of moving. I didn't think the "Balls are my business" things was all that tasteless on the kilt either...hello, your slogan is balls are my business! It's too late to act all shy about it now.
Didn't mind seeing James go, but wouldn't have minded Cindy either.
Edit: Somehow I missed this before I posted!
I thought the kilt was far and away the best look.

I figure Cindy stayed because her jacket may have been dowdy and corporate but it was well constructed, while James' entire outfit was just a mess.
I thought Benjamin actually should have been gone, having appointed himself team leader, and then turning out two bad pieces. And he was micro-managing. God, I wanted to smack him.

I think I got the designer's names correct, this is what I thought.
Michelle – booooring
Samantha, Benjamin & Cindy – too dressy
James – beach comber, I'm fine with him being eliminated
Matthew – Spartacus?, didn't like
Layana & Daniel (my favorite, glad it won), Kate & Patricia – both outfits looked comfortable & practical
Stanley – casual & cool, but I’m with Zac, I don’t like dropped crotch pants either.
Amanda – s/b with James’ beach comber, too short
Josh & Richard – stupid
I thought Heidi had some good points about servers looking too sexy or guys having their armpit hair sticking out.
My reaction too, weren't skorts big in the 70s? I think that was her decade.I'm shocked that Susan Sarandon's never seen a skort before.
It was sweet of Daniel to say that Layana should win because he had immunity, but now he doesn’t have it anymore, he should have said “me!” when Heidi asked.

I thought the winning look was kinda boring, but I suppose it fit the challenge the best in that it was completely practical for the job and was also cute, and actually looked like something a waitress would wear. Stanley's shirt and pants were great workwear, but not really all that innovative in terms of fashion. Most of Team KIR's looks matched together and actually looked like uniforms. I actually really liked Patricia's skirt/legging outfit with the blousy top (I don't remember who her partner was...Katie? IS there even a Katie? There are too many of them, I can't remember names), though something billowy wouldn't be practical when you're leaning over tables. Daniel is just cute overload.

I don't think it's just a matter of the men not wanting to wear it, if I'm out somewhere, I really don't want my server's balls pointed out to me, & I have a feeling a lot of other people feel the same way LOLOh, good, I'm not the only one. I loved the kilt! I also liked the ballsy (tee hee) slogan placement on it, but then I'm 12 that way. However, I do understand Susan Sarandon's point that most men probably would not want to wear it

Exactly. That slogan is suggestive no matter what body part you put it on - duh. It's crude and tacky to put the slogan on the crotch?! Hello, the slogan is crude and tacky. He's just following your lead, Susan!
I was wondering if the producers would have the balls (sorry, couldn't resist) to do that and have a "shocking" elimination in only the second challenge - it would have spiced up what is already proving to be a very dull season indeed. But alas, they didn't. I was actually fine with James leaving - he seemed clueless.I thought Benjamin actually should have been gone, having appointed himself team leader, and then turning out two bad pieces. And he was micro-managing. God, I wanted to smack him.
Again, I wasn't crazy about any of the looks tonight. I suppose the winning look was OK, although I was more partial to Stanley's black shirt/pants combo. Which is odd, because I hate the drop-crotch trend, and I was so glad when Zac Posen observed that it makes you look like you took a crap in your pants, because that's exactly what I think it looks like. Stanley's wasn't too extreme though, and the model did look good in the outfit. Of course that may just be because the model would have looked good in anything - lol.
You know who doesn't look good in everything? - Daniel. He may be a nice guy, but that humongous, garish heart/mandala/whatever thing he had emblazoned on his chest during the runway show made me want to puke. I couldn't look at it, and I can't believe he's not embarrassed as hell to be wearing it. And while we're on the subject, I hate his mustache too. This is shallow and probably also mean of me, but I think the male designers this season are really an odd-looking bunch.
For me the team thing is now officially a bust. i was really hoping they were going to switch the teams up this week, and when they didn't my heart sank. What's happening is exactly what happened on The Fashion Show. Project Runway, which has judges who are always harping about innovation, seems to think its reinventing the wheel with this teams concept, when it's actually just copying a TV show that was on the air FOUR YEARS AGO. It's kind of pathetic.

I know the winning look is supposed to be worn by her employees nationwide, but really how many of these ping pong places exist?
I was kind of surprised Tim embraced the kilt idea. Maybe even Tim has no idea which way the judges will go on any certain day either. I guess some like them, but I don't know of a single man that would wear one. Not that there's anything wrong with it. However, as one person said, it does seem like it would really narrow down the array of men who would apply knowing they had to wear that.
ETA: I don't like the dropped crotch look either, but at least it was achieved without showing underwear!

The ping-pong club of hers isn't brand new. She's been in that business a couple to few years, and I was honestly surprised it was still happening, because it screamed "fad". She had/has a romantic relationship with her partner in the business (I don't know if it was the guy with whom the designers met at the club), who may or may not have been the younger man she dated immediately after splitting with Tim Robbins (or was the reason for the split with him; I don't know)./gossipLove Susan Sarandon - she looks fine as hell! What a neat idea for a social club - balls are her business, and business looks good.
I like Layana, who seems gracious and humble for the most part, but she could've thanked Daniel in front of the judges for all of his help, and it seemed like there was a lot. And why, exactly could he not have won when he had immunity? He would just have had immunity next week.
Drop-crotches are terrible, and just because the kids are wearing them doesn't mean they should be encouraged.

I know it's not the case, but all I could think of when I saw Joseph Aaron's name was that he was trying to cash in on Seth Aaron's popularity. Can these contestants please loose the precious "Two first-name" monikers?. We've had Seth Aaron, Carol Hannah, Jay Nicholas, Anthony Ryan, Laura Kathleen.

I thought he should have gone, too. I didn't mind Cindy's jacket half as much as I hated those boring shorts. Then, he did another bad piece.
On the other hand, when he was talking to Cindy, he did seem to back off as soon as she said he should. The first line out of his mouth in response was to say that was fine, he would step back. But that wasn't enough. She had to go on and on after he'd already agreed to leave her alone. In fact, she spoke right over him as he tried to say it again. I didn't think either of them came away from that looking good.
To me, it looked like he gave her some pointers, which she appreciated, then she did the work. Besides, considering how little of the actual judging we see, there's no way to know what she did or did not say on the runway about his help.I like Layana, who seems gracious and humble for the most part, but she could've thanked Daniel in front of the judges for all of his help, and it seemed like there was a lot.
