Preview for next week with Dave & Connor doesn't make them look all that good, though.
Anyone else notice that Jessica sounds a lot like Rachel (of the volleyball girls) from TAR17?

Especially after seeing this episode with Phil shrugging at this guy's stupidity.
He has kind of a weird affect. Not as flamboyant as the YouTube guy but still out there.

Could Jessica have taken the Express Pass out of his backpack, or wherever it was, and turned it in on her own?
Probably not during the roadblock since she wasn't the one doing the task. But I'd assume she could have during the detour.

John's smiling was weird, as if he thought he was auditioning for something. I haven't seen that many teeth since the last time I saw a Julia Roberts movie.
I hope a good interview pops up this week, because he acted like he was on something, though to be fair he might just act like that when he's sleep-deprived.

I had the feeling he thought as long as he had the Express Pass, they couldn't eliminate his team. Not sure when the reality set in (if it did), but he seemed convinced that just having it ensured their staying in the race.
Yeah, he was like Gollum with that Express Pass.

Yeah, the smile was very creepy.John's smiling was weird, as if he thought he was auditioning for something. I haven't seen that many teeth since the last time I saw a Julia Roberts movie.
That and when he said to her that he had to go down to the beach to look at the surfboards there. Very creepy.
I have to give her credit. I could just about see the steam coming out of her ears, but she held it together. Even did that crazy-exhausting detour with the river silt after he couldn't figure out the fruit detour.
Also, she couldn't have used the Express Pass if he didn't want to, isn't it a team race?

There was no strategy at all - besides how can I lose? I guess this is the best example of Amazing Race Fatigue ever? That was absolutely the STUPIDEST bit of strategizing I have ever seen in all 22 seasons of the Race.

By the end, and his 'no regrets' outro, he made me cringe. I do hope Jessica dumped him, because he strikes me as so tightly wound that if/when he snaps... I hope she's nowhere near him.

I wasn't able to figure out which sticker it was. ... So I thought I could run up where Phil was and check out the boards that have been checked in.
What a dumbass, why on earth would he think that he would be able to do that?

Unfortunately, reading on them, listening to them, and I do realize, it is not a lot, it really sounds like he is really dominate over her, and no matter what she says or things, she will be #2 in the relationship.
From The Cast site on Amazing Race he says the following:
'Biggest challenge you and your teammate will face on The Race together: Jessica’s mumbling and me not being able to understand what she’s saying!
Pet peeve about your teammate: Sometimes Jess tunes me out when I’m telling an awesome story.'
Jessica says to the questions:'Biggest challenge you and your teammate will face on The Race together: John tells a lot of stories (multiple times) and speaks very slowly. I sometimes just talk over him or make him get to the '.
Which both just show what an 'A' he is and that he does not listen to anyone but himself, but, we all got that when going to the detour him telling us that 'they were both detail orientated, but he was better'. Which he showed us by not listening to Jessica when she told him to look at the other team's who got the 'yes' and the sample. Either that, or he needed glasses badly. This detour was NOT HARD, it was just taking the time and making LOOK THE SAME. Theirs was pathetic.
I also do not get Mr. Detail Orientated, when he kept saying the Roller Derby team was behind them. He was keeping time, so, he could not add the HOURS they took doing the fruit, the time, whatever it was to get to the steam, etc.? (Could they ask if anyone was there before them?). I would not have taken the chance and they still had a chance at the surf shop, but both their egos thought they were going to have a 'surfing challenge'. I have never seen a surfing challenge on AR, and probably never will. Surfing is an extreme sport-not everyone would be able to do it, and it was not a detour. Mr. and his Ms Detail Orientated have/had NO COMMON SENSE. Skydiving ALONE, Skiing, etc, not ever going to be challenges..

With dating couples on the Race that have a domineering man and a wiser woman who unfortunately takes a back seat, it's like the Stockholm Syndrome. Even though the dysfunction is on full display, it seems like these couples are unusually more deeply involved post-Race.Even worse, she's making it sound like they both didn't want to use the EP when in reality, it was just him.
The repeated references to assuming the Roller Derby Moms were behind them are emblematic of their strategic problem. They shouldn't assume a best case scenario when deciding when to use the Express Pass. The point of it was to guard against a worst case scenario. Based on the available evidence, assuming Roller Derby hadn't been to the river Detour was a very risky assumption. Jessica and John had wasted time hanging in the backyard. They admitted that they took a lot of time at the fruit task. Then, they switched Detours. Those are three things that take time. They should have realized being passed was a reasonable possibility, not a remote one.

The dumb thing about assuming the Roller Derby team was behind them was that all they had to was check if another team had dumped mud in the bucket.
In their slight defense the bucket was empty and they stated that there was no sign that any other teams had been there, so it appears the production staff straightened things up. Now why they didn't ask any of the people there if they had seen a team matching their description is beyond me.

Especially since they did think to ask the man in the wrong backyard about other racers being there before them.
