A NEW DOCTOR SHAKES UP NERVES AT SEATTLE GRACE ON ABC'S "GREY'S ANATOMY"
Guest Starring Constance Zimmer ("Entourage") and Justin Bruening ("All My Children")

"Walking on a Dream" - The Seattle Grace doctors are on edge when a new medical professional enters the hospital; Arizona struggles with the emotional and physical pain of a phantom limb; and while battling pregnancy hormones, an overly-emotional Meredith is confronted with her worst fear, on "Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, JANUARY 24 (9:00-10:02 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

"Grey's Anatomy" stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd, Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens, Jr. as Richard Webber, Sara Ramirez as Callie Torres, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Jessica Capshaw as Arizona Robbins, Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery and Sarah Drew as April Kepner.

"Walking on a Dream" was written by Tia Napolitano and directed by Rob Hardy.

Bailey is awesome.Smackdown!

They spent the entire episode griping about the efficiency expert, more than anyone else, with no ability to see the connection between their millions and the hospital being in jeopardy. I was so relieved someone knocked those idiots upside the head. The looks on their faces when Bailey spoke up. Classic.

Meredith is unbearable.

What bothered me is I saw no self-consciousness on the part of the plane crash survivors, each of whom took home a 15 million dollar check. Do they not realize that the cuts to the hospital are directly a result of those checks?

Don't get me wrong, they should be compensated, but 15 million dollars EACH?

Getting so tired of THE LEG as well. I know in real life it takes a long time to get over something like this, but Jesus, come on. I'm bored now and I doubt I'm alone.

Bailey's words to Derek may have been the best part of the episode. And that's pretty sad.

Good episode. My favorite part was Arizona and surprisingly Owen. I like that he was helping her with different therapies. Those scenes were really interesting.

I did also like Bailey calling out Derek, but it's not their fault. Minimal Jackson, April and the other interns was good.

The look on Derek's face when Bailey delivered that line was freaking PRICELESS! Like "How Dare You smacktalk Saint Derek?" God, I love Bailey.

I see I'm going to have to suffer through Jaime from All My Children's terrible acting once again (Paramedic guy). Thought I was well rid of him..

I love how Bailey put Derek in his place loved it! That might have been my favorite scene.

Oddly enough I do like Dr. Cahill she's interesting.

Hormonal Meredith was funny and Dr. Ross is still my favorite intern.

I commend April for being so mature and teaching Edwards even though she knew Edwards was sleeping with Jackson. She is actually a pretty good teacher and I am glad to see this side of her. She really is a great character and I love to see that she is developing as a doctor and with relationships. The paramedic scene was adorable they are kind of alike it's cute.

Arizona and Callie's last scene was great I teared up a little bit I couldn't help but flashback to when Izzie was daydreaming about being at the beach with Denny.

Over all I give this episode an 8. The music in this episode was great loved it.

Also glad that they brought up the psychological concept of the phantom leg in this episode.

I'll gladly take an hour of THE LEG and hormonal Meredith if it means April/Jackson or the stupid interns aren't taking up all the time. Except Smash Williams-Ross. I like him, he can stay.

WHERE IS ZOLA? I swear we haven't seen her since like October. Bring her baaaaack! More Zola, less interns. It's really not difficult to understand, Shonda.

I liked Bailey's smackdown of Derek, but I strangely loved that Meredith was so supportive of him afterward. Even if the smackdown was deserved, I liked that she had his back and felt the need to tell him. Is that weird? I just love how Meredith and Derek have finally become each other's people this season. I hope it lasts.

Agree. What makes me nuts is that they are all sooo shocked that anyone might be upset with them because the hospital is in danger of closing. Like it never occurred to them that there is cause and effect. It just seems like if you are angry enough at an institution to sue for 15 mil, you wouldn't work there any more. And if you aren't, and want to stay while collecting the check, you'd at least have a little sensitivity and not crow about the program to help disadvantaged, sick children probably getting cancelled (Christina) and not bark about having an efficiency expert underfoot who is trying to keep the hospital open (Derek).

I'm going to be really annoyed when this story inevitably ends with the crash victims giving back the millions to save the hospital and the Chief's job and a parade is thrown in their honor.

It must be said, Meredith is a terrible teacher and shouldn't be allowed any interns. She destroyed an intern in one day. One day.

Loved Bailey's smackdown on Derek.

Found the obliviousness of the survivors and hormonal Meredith annoying and unbelievable.

Keep getting irritated by the stupidity of the lawsuit storyline and its repercussions.

Why would Cahill's character tell a miscellaneous group of surgeons they should shut down the ER (a department that doesn't normally fall under surgery's purview in the real world)??

I also like that surgery is the only department with any inefficiencies.

I'm easy. I laughed out loud when Owen was on the intercom demanding that Alex stab Arizona in the foot.

Once again, Grey's serves me up a case of whiplash. We go from the board meeting where bankruptcy and closing are announced as the inevitable to a surgical efficiency expert roaming the floors? Not that I want more of the lawsuit crap, but there was no time for appeals, no discussing of money being actually awarded and no transition from "we're broke and must close" to "we need to cut back." Yick.

Alex and Cris working together was awesomely entertaining. I love that they have both developed mad skills, but are still crassly self-centered. When together, they rock! More Crisalex, please!

For once, I didn't hate Owen. I like seeing him use his military-specific experience to help Arizona. He's a much more likable character and actor when he's not with Cristina.

So now April's getting a new love interest? Haven't we already seen enough April Love? Yes. We. Have.

Average episode. It closed some doors (Derek back in OR, Meredith able to fly, Arizona coping better), and opened some (Dr. Cahill, April's new guy).

It was okay. I am looking forward to the weeks to come. And though obviously not the best, I feel it's been fairly consistent this year... normally the quality either greatly improves or rapidly falls around this time in a season.

I liked this one. I was so happy to see Derek successful in the O.R., and really liked the support Meredith is giving him. I thought Bailey's remark was shitty. Did she want her leg amputated, her arm mangled necessitating surgery after surgery, to be crushed and die almost instantly leaving your friends to fend off animals wanting to scavenge off your dead body, or would she have preferred to die a slower death? How about none of the above, but maybe a little PTSD where she needed to sleep with the lights on? Yes, the plane crash/lawsuit is stupid, but she acted as though nothing at all happened to her coworkers. Disgusting.

I have to disagree, lakelover. Bailey has been supportive of all of them , but the lawsuit judgement is now threatening her livelihood and career. I think Derek deserved that smack down. Cahill is trying to find ways to keep the hospital open, and derek was just being the usual insufferable entitled ass he always is.

Same for me. I've worked with several pregnant women and none have never seen any yell and cry at people all day long.

I was glad that Bailey spoke up. The group could have taken the settlement or elected to go after the charter (less money)instead of pursuing the hospital. The opted to go for the larger payday without thinking or caring about their co-workers losing their job and/or the hospital closing. They thought about themselves and their future and Bailey has that same right. It won't matter anyway. I'll be completely shocked if its not all ended with the oh so great Derek Shepherd saving them all.

I liked the new character. I want to see more of her.

So, if the ER closes...that means April goes? Can I hope for that?

Glad to see Derek back in the OR. Loved his patient. Really really liked him and the sister. Meredith was comic relief during the episode, so I'll take it. This version of pregnant woman is much better than the vagina vote version. At least I laughed.

I liked Cahill enough to stand her another episode. Kind of curious to see her past with Richard.

I was bothered by how they treated Arizona's phantom limb pain but I have to give props to Jessica. Really well done.

What makes me nuts is that they are all sooo shocked that anyone might be upset with them because the hospital is in danger of closing. Like it never occurred to them that there is cause and effect.

Well, they were in a plane crash. Some lost relatives. Others have had a long emotional and physical recuperation. They get to be entitled. Had Bailey been on that plane, we'd still be hearing about it in long form speeches with tape and glue. She could've smack him down in private. I understand her positon but no need to do that in public and tell everyone how better off the victims are because of that money that came from a plane crash that they survived. To each their own. It's not like Cahill was going to back down. She seems she can hold up her own.

Bailey has been supportive of all of them

I'll give you she has been supportive of Callie and Arizona but have seen zero support for Derek and barely for Meredith. So much for all.

Why was everyone so confused/surprised by what was happening to Arizona? I don't know how common Phantom Limb actually is but it is a fairly well known phenomenon. Heck, I'm a CNA and I knew using a mirror was a common treatment, you don't need an orthopedic surgeon to tell you that.

Meredith is as bad a teacher as April is a good one.

There was a weird vibe between Derek's brother-sister pair. I kept thinking they were a couple.

After like 5 years someone pointed out that surgical interns probably shouldn't be the first person doing exams in the ER.

ETA: I just looked up Phantom Limb and it's reported in 60-80% of amputations, so not only should they have known what was going on, they should have been expecting it.

I have to agree. It's not like the plane crash survivors were the only ones wanting to keep the ER open. I'm sure they would gladly give back the money in exchange for that experience. Out of frustration, I think Bailey has a right to feel that way, but she definitely shouldn't have called Derek out like that.

What makes me nuts is that they are all sooo shocked that anyone might be upset with them because the hospital is in danger of closing. Like it never occurred to them that there is cause and effect.

Didn't they settle the $15 million deal before they found out the hospital was going to have to pay for it? At this point, I'm sure they know there is a direct correlation. At the end Derek mentioned to Meredith that he feels guilty or that it's their fault.

The SHADE that Bailey threw at Derek, followed by the look on his and everyone's faces was hilarious. I'm with Bailey on that - and it was inevitable that someone was going to have to say something about it - because her job, as well as the other non-crash doctors, are on the line. The survivors too, but they also have a pile of money to fall back on. Hell, they could stop working altogether if they wanted to. Anyways, Bailey's comment probably shut down the bitching for a little bit, at least.

I like Cahill. She's only been around for one episode and already she's much more of a fit than most of the interns. Of course she'll only be around for a short time...

Arizona's dreams were a bit creepy but mostly just weird. It's great, though, that they are keeping it real and exploring her phantom limb pain.

I love Cristina Yang.

I liked this episode, especially Cristina's version of altruism. I liked the story with Arizona but I wish they hadn't gone so creepy with the dreams, I was riding with it until they had her cutting off her leg while Cristina stared at her as if being hypnotized.

You know, I even liked the patients and minor characters this episode which I haven't said in a long time (I think since the arm transplant episode).

Poor Shane doesn't know when to shut up. He is like the male version of Callie.

Speaking of, I know this is pretty much a character trait with her, but why does Arizona insist on keeping Callie in the dark about every single emotional thing that happens to her? I was sort of expecting Cahill to suggest they fire Dr. Robbins, glad that didn't happen.

I absolutely agree. She marked major points with me. Especially since on this show, characters rarely stay professional. I didn't expect it, but she was one of my favorite parts of this episode.

What I liked: I could see everyone's side of the story. I think that everyone in the plane crash would have preferred it didn't happen rather than get 15 million dollars. It isn't their fault and they still have the right to feel involved in the hospital. But OTOH the compensation they got is the cause of the cuts, so I can understand Bailey's POV. Especially since, when people feel their jobs are at risk and afraid for their future, they tend to react like that with those who have a plan B, it's very human. And I like Derek, but the smackdown was the Bailey I know and love.

I also liked Owen, I didn't get to see him act a lot as a physician so far, and he was great with Arizona. I ticked off when he ruined Jo's little trick and told Paula (not crazy about her, BTW) that Derek was operating. But I did like Derek kicking her out of his OR and defending his intern. Same: it's her job so I understand why she wanted to be there, but I could also see why, for his first surgery in a long time, he didn't want an outsider observing. And once again, I really enjoy this healthy, supporting-each-other, respecting-each-other Mer/Der Relationship.

What I loved: Cristina and Alex, of course. They rule, that's all.

I understand Bailey's concerns but she had to restrain the bad blood. The only advantage of her verbal incontinence is that she vocalized what the other staff of the hospital must go thinking of the group of survivors. However she should have shut her mouth. That woman sometimes thinks she's above everyone. Has an ego the size of a football field.
Yes, how lucky Derek an international class neurosurgeon is for have been on the verge of not operating anymore and have had to submit himself to the the surgical ordeal he went on. How lucky Mer for having lost her sister smashed under the plane and had her eaten by animals. How lucky Arizona had to be there for four days with an open exposed fracture with bugs and in the end had to cut it off. How lucky baby Sofia will have all that Money but will never meet or benefit of having a father in her life. And how horrible it was for B. not have gone in that plane because now her son could be receiving an equal amount of Money over his dead mother. B. seriously must think on taming that big mouth of hers. There are simply things we think but we don't say, how insensitive!

I understand the other staff concerns, the survivors never thought their decisions would lead everything go south. They never expected the insurance company would manage to evade liability, but they did, and now all of them are worried. But in Bailey's case I must add the following. She had clearly some serious investment on her by her teatchers. To lead a person to that kind of professional development at that age, the person must be very smart in the first place, but she must have had someone who spent a big deal of time and energy teaching her as well. Time and energy that were stolen from other pupils which are maybe now medíocre surgeons doing lumps and bumps in the O.R.s/E.R.s and not being the great surgeon she is nowadays. So, those to whom she 'stole' are the ones who might be very worried, not her. She'll find a job next day if the hospital close its doors.

If she could choose between being in the plane crash and receive 15M and not being there but not receiving a thing, I bet she would choose the latest one. This was one of the worst tirades of Bailey.

I'm not usually a fan of Bailey's speeches (too Julia Sugarbaker for me) but I did enjoy last night. It was pretty obvious to me that she said what every other person in the room not getting $15 million was thinking. Yes, what they went through was terrible but not everyone who survives a plane crash gets $15 million dollars either.

I enjoyed April last night - go figure - someone in a teaching hospital who was actually teaching. I certainly enjoyed her much more than Mer and her stupid hormone crap.

Never liked Arizona, never will - so her story is just a waste of time for me.

I would've had a problem with Bailey's rant if Derek hadn't been the one complaining like Cahill is closing down the ER because she wants too, not because she had too.

I don't even think Bailey has a problem with them getting that money, her problem is that Derek was trying to stand in the way of Cahill doing what was necessary to save the hospital, while at the same time not putting forth any other ways to save the hospital. That's why she told him that if you have a better idea, okay, but otherwise shut-up and let the lady do her job, instead of getting in her way. If you get in the way of her saving the hospital, and the hospital closes, you're going to be fine with your millions but the rest of those who work in the hospital will not be. The 15m dig was a way of reminding Derek of that fact.

Yes, neither Cristina, Derek, Meredith or Arizona asked to be in that plan crash and would give that 15m back if it meant that they were never in that crash. But Bailey and those who worked in the hospital didn't put them on that plane, they didn't cause the crash, they had nothing to do with what happened to Cristina, Derek, Meredith, and Arizona, but they are the ones who are going to pay for that by losing their jobs, their likelihoods, if the ER is not close. Bailey, like Derek was clearly not happy about the ER being close but she understood that it was needed in order to save people's job, therefore let it be done.
