Bates was basically a journeyman who had a good season or two at the NHL level. But mostly a tough guy. His brother never got there.

Generally, hockey players are pretty cool dudes.

I have to confess, when I saw their names I thought, "Ok, who brought their butler on the Race?"

Alpha-male meatheads who don't seem interesting in the slightest. I can already tell I'm gonna hate the "romance" storyline with Caroline & Jennifer.

Also don't see them being good at anything mental.

Full disclosure: I'm both a hockey player and a hockey fan, so maybe I'm pre-disposed to like them. While it's early yet, I thought they were fun. The brothers seem to have good senses of humor, and they seem pretty tight, which could be an asset. As for not being good at mental tasks, we don't really have much to go on at this point, do we? For what it's worth, they've both gone to college, and I'm pretty sure Bates, at least, has done some international traveling because he's played for teams in Europe a few times, so that might be useful experience, too. Who knows? I think we'll have to wait and see whether they're truly an alpha male team. They may be athletes, but they're not exactly twenty-somethings (Bates is closer to 40 than 30). After all, this week, they did well due to luck, not physical prowess. I do hope they focus on the task at hand (RACING!!!) and not get distracted by their fellow racers. Seriously, boys, race.

P.S. Bates is a nickname. Real name is Jonathan. Most hockey players have seriously unimaginative nicknames that tend to riff off their last names -- Patrick Kane is Kaner, Brian Boyle is Boyler, Taylor Hall is Hallsy, you get the idea.

I am cheering for these guys because I'm a hockey fan and I never had any reason to dislike Bates when he was playing. So far, I like their personalities, too.

Their opening confessional pretty much stated that they think the race will be all physical. So I'm not expecting much from them in the mental department.

Also, some Sucksters who claim to know them personally say they're actually not much when it comes to mental acuity, so . . . see previous statement.

Live in Raleigh. Bates seems to be in real life pretty much how he is portrayed (so far) on the show. He's part owner of a bar here, Lucky B's.

I'll be rooting for him.

As long as Prince William aka Anthony keeps his teeth in, I'm all for Bates and PW making it far. They have a pretty good dynamic and seem to get along well with the other teams which I like in a team.

After the ‘Canes, Bates played with the Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leaves

Uh, I guess whoever made the site up doesn't know that it's Leafs, not Leaves!

Unsurprisingly, they put me to sleep with every second of screen time they get. Not surprising, since alpha-male teams tend to do that.

They are kind of boring, aren't they?. I do think they are someone the other teams should look out for and they aren't in either of the alliances. I can see someone detouring them when given the chance. They are two big dudes so I would consider them a major threat.

It amazes me how this team seems to bleed time like crazy between tasks. This week, in the Vietnam leg, they finished the detour 2nd. They got to the U-Turn 3rd (having been passed en-route by one team) and got to the finish mat 4th (having been passed en-route by 2 additional teams, as Joey and Meghan had to complete the 2nd half of the detour). It can't all be bad taxi luck, can it?

It was bad taxi luck again, according to an extra clip on the CBS site as to why Bates & Anthony fell from 2nd to 3rd to finally 4th. They said that they had to ask people on the street to help their driver out to find the pit stop!

Anthony and Bates: Put it back in your pants, guys. You think the country singers are attractive--WE GET IT. Everyone GETS IT. Jeebus, give it a rest.

I don't mind the flirting...it's low key, and it's mutual. Of course, YMMV.

I'm trying to like these two, but if Bates told us one more time how fabulous he was without his shirt on, I was going to scream.

I also wonder what they would have done had a croc come in the river while they were in it?

Is it wrong that I still find Anthony more attractive, even when his teeth aren't in? Ah well. I think it's the hair. Plus, Anthony seems more quiet and just about getting things done. He reminds me of James (of Jaymes and) from last season. Although, to Bates' credit, he's considerably less...animated than Jaymes (though Jaymes definitely wins in the looks department).

Finally, in my mind, I keep thinking Bates is the one with the short hair and Anthony is the one with the longer hair. I don't know why their names don't seem to match up for me.

They're unstoppable against this field, unless it's some mental challenge or they get unlucky with a taxi driver or take a bad flight, it's hard to imagine them being defeated.

Or they get U-turned somewhere.

Other than the country singers' attractiveness, I don't see what's in this alliance for the hockey players. They need to accept that they're not going to get laid on the race and cut the ladies loose.

I don't think that's what they like about the alliance.

In their sport, they're used to working with several other people at a time, on a team of 20 or more. Having 2 more people to rely on probably puts them closer to their comfort zone. That was especially evident when they spontaneously shifted to working with the moms in the last episode.

The country singers are amenable to an alliance. The fact that they're kind of pretty and flirt a tiny bit is just an added dimension.

These two seem like nice guys to me who like to joke around in a kind of locker room way. I don't mind it. I once had a co-worker who I claimed grew uo in a locker room because he was a jock throughout his school career. His humor put me off at first, but I came to understand it and laugh with him or at him. He didn't mind either way. He went to Harvard law school after college so jocks aren't always mentally challenged. I feel the same way about these two, it seems to me that most of their bragging is tongue in cheek. They seem genuinely kind and supportive,

Yawn...predictable win by a semi-pleasant, semi-boring team.

Everytime I hear Bates (Motel) & Anthony (Perkins) all I can think is Team Psycho.

And because they played baseball as kids.  They were very lucky that Max ran into trouble.

I am happy with their win.  Liked them far better than Max and Katie

and honestly, they were smarter than everyone by keeping the list of places they had been, in the order and the place they landed at each pit stop.  Pretty smart if you ask me.
