Apparently, this is supposed to be NBC's answer to SportsNation, though likely more than a little bit heavier on the pop culture. Ever since NBC signed Beadle, I wondered what they might do to not only re-create her success on SN, but to better utilize her strengths, which do not lean towards serious event coverage. Never heard of this Dave Briggs fellow; given that I studiously avoid watching anything to do with Fox News, I guess it's not much of a surprise. Show debuts Monday, 1/28 to coincide with NBC's Super Bowl Coverage:

New York – January 3, 2012 – The Crossover: with Beadle and Briggs, a new 30-minute daily topical sports, entertainment and pop culture show featuring Michelle Beadle (@MichelleDBeadle), one of America's most popular sports and entertainment broadcasters, and Dave Briggs (@DaveBriggsTV), former Fox News personality, premieres on Monday, January 28, at 6 p.m. ET on the NBC Sports Network.

Designed for viewers who want more than basic sports news and scores, The Crossover will focus on the biggest and most topical stories of the day in the worlds of sports, pop culture and entertainment. As part of the daily show, Beadle and Briggs will welcome guests from sports and entertainment to discuss the news of the day, the sports teams they love, the projects they are working on and more.

The Crossover (@Crossover) debuts Monday, January 28 from New Orleans, the site of Super Bowl XLVII. Original episodes will air each day from a specially designed set during Super Bowl week. Beginning Monday, February 4, The Crossover will move to its permanent home in Studio 8G at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York.

This reminds me of when someone, I want to say TBS or TNT, stole Max Kellerman from ESPN and then tried to duplicate the success he had hosting "Around the Horn" for their channel. Of course it failed and now Kellerman is back working for ESPN.

What these other channels don't get is that ESPN was the only source for 24-7 news coverage of sports for years. So although some people can compete with them for sports coverage, like the NFL Network, for most it doesn't make sense to shell out a lot of money for an on air personality in the hopes they steal some of ESPN's viewership.

I miss Beadle though, I can't wait to see her back on ESPN.

It was neither of the Turner channels. Max's contract with ESPN had expired and he was hired by Fox Sports.

Beadle ain't going anywhere, even if this show falls flat on its face. Plus, I strongly suspect that she prefers her entertainment-related responsibilities.

We'll see what happens after her contract expires, but for her sake I hope everything works out.

She's barely six months into her responsibilities at NBC; her contract is likely not expiring any time soon.

So I take it that Briggs has been "reassigned"?
