The Dish
First Look at 'Vanderpump Rules'

Gorgeous people problems aplenty in the new Lisa-fueled series.
Nov 15, 2012

Lisa Vanderpump's restaurant SUR often makes a cameo on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and as it turns out, there's as much (if not more) drama among the hotspot's staff as there is with the 'Wives.

In the new Bravo series Vanderpump Rules, you get to see Lisa as a boss trying to herd gorgeous, oversexed kittens in the form of her staff. In Beverly Hills, restaurants are peppered with models, aspiring actresses/actors and other beautiful people working in the restaurant scene, and if you forget the restaurant part of the Rules trailer you might think it's a reality show about Calvin Klein's underwear models.

First-look-at-vanderpump-rules.

So what happens when you put so many facially-blessed twentysomethings together for 40 hours a week in a booze-and-glamour-fueled business? Yep, you guessed it: They take turns sleeping with each other (pre-existing relationships be damned), have throwdowns as a result and do their best to navigate the repurcussions of said drama while trying to not get fired by Lisa. AKA, it's compelling reality TV for sure.

Vanderpump Rules debuts on Monday, January 7 at 9/8c PM.

Oh, sorry, still can't see out of my eyes from the tears of laughter that have been happening for the past hour when that one cross-eyed chick said they were all so attractive.

I hate them all, none of them are remotely good-looking (not to be confused with "thin and wear an amount of make-up that would make the Kardashians blush"), talented, smart or interesting.

Returning this dish to the kitchen.

Compared to the rest of those girls, Schaena (or however you spell it) was the least objectionable. First and last time I watch this mess.

WORD!

These people think they are so much hotter than they really are. I find it pathetic that everyone of them aspires to be famous rather than an actor or singer. None of them is remotely talented or invested in the work it takes to be successful. What a waste of an hour.

Also Staasi is a terrible smug insufferable feral child.

The most unattractive group of people claiming to be "hot" that I've yet to see on tv.

This show can go the way of that dumb computer geek show.

On to the next one....

And I actually watched "that dumb computer geek show"; as a Lisa V fan, you have noooo idea how much it pains me to
say that the horrible waste of Bravo airspace that was "Silicon Valley" is infinitely more entertaining than THIS trash!

Speaking of trash, was it a requirement to feature bitchy "hot" strumpets(aka generic LA chicks) making complete asses of themselves? I just can't stand to watch boring bitches being boringly bitchy to each other for no real reason other than to create controversy for themselves.
If you're going to be a crazy bitch, at least be funny and entertaining about it. This felt like Junior Leaguers plotting against each other.
Also, I hate Stassi not just because she's a boring bitch, but because she's named Stassi.

None of the girls are really acting, much less model material.

Schema, or however her name is spelled, BIGGEST claim of fame is being the young other woman that Eddie slept with BEFORE leaving his wife for LeAnne Rhimes?! A callback for the Pink Power Ranger?!

It's just sad.

Aren't real models supposed to be striking looking WITHOUT tons of makeup spackled on their faces?!

I'll probably watch another episode, when Bravo airs a marathon at the end of the series.

Stassi and her pretentious spelling and pronunciation can go suck it.

Scheaaeeeinuhgh's boyfriend is a pudgy Eddie Cibrian impersonator. She definitely has "a type", wouldn't you say? But I like her. A lot, for some reason.

I'm hoping she hooks up with Jax, or Jacks, or Jacqukesss or however he spells it too. Because again? Stohssieey can suck it.

Did Lisa cast... I mean staff.... her restaurant with a list of applicants from fuckedupnames.com? Or maybe this is where the grown up Toddlers & Tiaras contestants go to work when their dreams of famewhoredom and stardom shatter in L.A but they're desirably hireable because they still know how to "work it" and "bring their A-game"? Those names have to end up somewhere...

And did that guy REALLY just shave his forehead? Is he Tom 1 or Tom 2? So confusing!

edited because even when you're making up words, spelling still matters

Oh my god yes to this! I was thinking the same thing and to top it off she (I think her name is Kristen) is the most unattractive one. This show has to be fake, I can't believe Lisa and Ken would actually employ these people they are all horribly unprofessional and Stassi HAS to be acting. No one could possibly really be that clueless and horrible as a person. Why would anyone want to be her friend or date her?

I will not be watching this, I don't even know why they would want their staff to be portrayed this way.

Yeah...the names were bizarre.

I caught a few minutes despite initially turning away. It was the part where the misunderstood mistress was moaning into a mic because she wanted to be a pop star, or something.

I suddenly felt older and more crotchety, because that was frickin' vile. I've seen a lot of awful reality television, and I think that's the worst moment because she seemed to genuinely believe that it's all the way it should be. No talent, just moaning into a microphone ("more like a porn star") and that's somehow legitimately deserving of being televised and ultimately sold as music. Without any kind of shame or embarrassment about any of it. Gross.

This show is gross. I may need to reevaluate my entertainment choices.

I really don't know what was more appalling about this episode:

1. Was it Stassi, the obnoxious, entitled, spoiled "descendant" of a Swedish princess?

2. Was it Sheana's horrific singing and moaning the phrase "Can you freak, bitch?"

3. Or was it the fact that instead of studying for the bar exam, I actually watched this steaming pile of shit?

Ugh. I wanted more Lisa and less manufactured drama by talentless actors.

To answer an earlier question, SUR is a real restaurant on the outskirts of Beverly Hills, near where it meets West Hollywood. I used to want to give it a try, since a friend posted pix of the place on her Facebook page. Now you couldn't pay me to visit there. I would be embarrassed to be seen anywhere near this bunch.

I could've sworn that last season on RHOBH the opening of SUR was shown and Scheanna was there. So why do they keep referring to her as the new girl if she was there from the beginning?

Didn't like the show either way. I was hoping it'd be somewhat interesting like Gallery Girls, but nope.

The aggressive musical score--actual songs, lots of them--and the music is relentless--told me all I needed to know.

These people are so BORING that they have to be edited like a music video.

I usually think that the editors are the most talented thing about Bravo, but even they can't save this dreadful "show" (well, it's really just an ad for Lisa's restaurants. And yet, after seeing the decor, endless closeups and commentary about the food (probably okay, but nothing special for the price), and "meeting" the obnoxious waitstaff, I can't imagine why in the world I'd want to eat there even though it's pretty close.)

This is the best they could do. All that footage and still...no story.

I tuned into this show because I like Lisa from what I've seen of her as a new BH viewer. I expected this to be more about her running the business. So disappointed that this is really a bunch of high-schoolers working at a restaurant.

When that girl said "it's so great here because everyone wants to be actors, famous..." I almost wanted to bang my head into my desk out of embarrassment for Lisa. You can put on a number of TV shows where people are waiting in LA (and NY) while they wait for their "big break." It's cliche at this point, not something that makes you stand out!

I almost feel bad for Scheana. Almost. The RHOBH had addressed her past, I feel like it was just a set up to break in VPR. Of course Scheana was a participant and still is in bringing up what she did (and honestly, Eddie Cibrian was not a huge star, even now isn't he more known because of LeeAnn and Brandi going on HW? I buy a young girl meeting a working actor that isn't all over the media (at that point) and just believing him if he said he wasn't married.) She's in on the drama now, though, she was probably moved to Sur just for this "plot", so that makes me hold back from my sympathy with the rest of the workers. However, I have a hard time believing based on the people we're seeing that they haven't done similar in their pasts, you know, since they're all some of the most beautiful people in LA (GMAFB with that, please, show!)

They did go too far with the newbie attitude, regardless of what Scheana has done. That was Freshmen Year HS level. I know someone that has multiple restaurants and they sent some of their best from the first over to the 2nd for a bit to get the new one started. I suspect that could also be a motive for Lisa having Scheana there. If that's the case, and Scheana is trying to do a few things the way Villa does, Lisa probably wants it that way, so the other staff should be more accepting to her for their bosses sake. Lisa, also, has to really step up if petty clique crap is continuing to eat the business/show. Having drama is one thing. Having stupidity, is another and it will make Lisa lose credibility as a business woman if she lets this get to out of hand.

What is Kristan doing on a show about "hottie"s? Ah, well - I guess Baywatch needed their Alexander Paul, so does this show.

That polishing glasses, Who'sTheBoss business reminds me of the braintrust that were the Gallery Girls. In fact, when Schemer's vocal fry seems the most unbearable ever broadcast, one only need remember the Brooklyn coven.

I enjoyed it for the eye candy. If the show were just Schaena and the Boys, I would like it better. I can't tell Katie and Kristen apart, and Stassi is the worst kind of Reality TV Offensive: She is vile without being interesting. Tina seemed the most down-to-earth and above it all, which means I doubt she'll appear again.

I am also flummoxed that one of the Toms shaved his forehead. Is it supposed to make it look shiny?

I don't think Stassi is acting much, uf at all. This is Stassi's THIRD reality show...fourth if you count her short appearance on RHWBH. She was on The Amazing Race family edition with her even douche baggier father several years ago and looked quite different with a few extra pounds. There is a whole thread on her family (the Schroeders) if you look there. People didn't like them. She was also on a show for snotty spoiled bitches called Queen Bees, all the girls were sent to the show by their family or friends for being assholes. It's kinda clear that Stassi is a famewhore with a massive superiority complex. It is interesting how people seem drawn to her despite it. I found it interesting she called Schaena a famewhore.

I agree that Kristen isn't cute. At all.

So Lisa describes Villa Blanca as the place one takes his wife and Sur as where one takes his mistress. Sur is staffed by people who think they are just moments away from being the next big star and who are wearing essentially gauzy large bandanas that Lisa thought were cute when she saw them on some island. She said on WWHL that she told them they could wear bras, but she chuckled and acted as if she doubted that they wore any underwear under the thin fabric at all. How incredibly gross to think that they are around food dressed this way.

Lisa cannot possibly think that anyone would come to her establishments for the food. It must just be almost an afterthought. Unless this waitstaff we saw tonight are really all just actors for this "reality" show, then Sur is overrun with immature maniacs. How Lisa could think showing this would be good publicity is puzzling to me.

I would think that after watching this, the main attraction would be that one would go there for a chance to see scantily clad waitresses or a chance to be filmed or a chance to see a D level actor or actress. But, then phoniness and posturing are what LA is all about, so this show may drive business through the roof.

I want LISA on a show about LISA! She's barely a character - maybe that will change in future episodes? I so want her spinoff to do well. I'd love to have her on 2 shows & I don't want adrienne & kyle & camille to be able to gloat about Lisa's show bombing. I hope there are people who enjoy it but I want to see Lisa & Ken, & an interesting staff. LA is full of much better looking wanna be actors who are also smart & interesting. Let's see people who were trained, who know film, who can discuss their lives trying to get roles & discuss their influences & why they want to be acting. Not some homely, not very smart people who just want to be "famous" for any old thing. The obnoxious blonde has a mushy face, the 2 brunettes who are friends I can barely tell about they are so bland looking (though the one who said they were all super hot is definitely the ugliest). Jax is kind of ugly & Tom is alright, I guess, if you like that sort of thing.
I am offended that some piece of trash like scheana (& that voice - nails on a chalk board!) actually gets to be featured on a tv show because she had an affair with someone else's husband. Seriously - we would never hear from this woman if she hadn't carried on with Brandi's husband. It's weird watching her with Brandi. It just proves eddie would screw anything. There is Brandi with her model's body & looking gorgeous & she's talking to this short, dumpy, extremely plain chick who sounds like Minnie Mouse on helium & appears to have an IQ of about 75. Scheana seems to have not one redeeming characteristic but, then, who else would sleep with a married man?

This show seemed like an SNL skit about a reality show about a restaurant. I watched with a very confused look on my face. So these people are like mean sorority girls and feel superior to everyone else and they're servers at a crappy restaurant? I have very, very low standards, but I can't even with this. It's not fun or campy or a steaming trainwreck. It's just kind of sad.

Scheanna, and probably a few others, were brought in from Villa Blanca for the opening of SUR. She is new to SUR, but not a new employee of Lisa's.

But if she was brought over for the opening, then she's not newer than the others, so how could she be trying to fit in with them and why are they hazing her like a newbie?

Did Lisa cast... I mean staff.... her restaurant with a list of applicants from fuckedupnames.com?

I always assume these reality show people with strange names are really named Margaret or Ann or Stanley or John, ever since that one girl changed her name in a sad attempt to seem more interesting on the Real World like 20 years ago.

Also Staasi is a terrible smug insufferable feral child.

Somehow--completely unfairly I admit--I always disliked Pandora and thought she seemed insufferable even thought she never did anything, but now that we are introduced to her best friend, I feel justified in disliking her.

I think less of Lisa because of those outfits.

Don't forget that Lisa was an actress, as I believe are all these people. I didn't think one thing about it was real. They were all about the level of bad soap acting, and they throw Lisa in there occasionally to be the intimidating dragon lady boss. It's a faux soap - but a boring one. I think I'm one and out. I love Lisa too, and I think she'll get more than her share of curiosity seeking customers because of this. Win-win.
