From SNPP:

Homer Goes to Prep School...that is, a school where you learn to prepare for the apocalypse.

With special guest Tom Waits! I predict he'll be the best part.

ETA: "Teacher did not get fat over the holidays." Ha, loved Sideshow Mel's "Laser Hair Bone Removal and the couch gag of the family as various awards...which are then crushed.

"What would you do if you got my ear in the mail?"
"I dunno, feed it to the dog?"

Homer's spirit animal was so randomly hilarious.

"Smell some bread!"

Tom Waits as a doomsday prepper was pretty great casting. Of Herman would be a prepper, but not kinda shocked that Superintendent Chalmers, Lindsey Naegle and Pyro would be preppers, too. It's gonna be tough to see Chalmers the same way again. He...drinks his own urine?

Heh, a Kathy Griffin special was in the pile of apocalypse movies.

So...an apocalyptic scenario actually hit Springfield. And it was all Homer's fault because he was too busy watching youtube videos of a crazy prepper. But I liked that Springfield went back to normal from the EMP BECAUSE all of the crazy people left. I thought the writers wasted an opportunity that the prepper's alarm wasn't triggered by one of the kid's bracelets from earlier in the episode.

All in all, better than I thought it was gonna be! Which is high praise from me these days.

I'll have to show this episode to my dad. We both love post-apocalyptic fiction and prepper culture (at least, observing it from a far distance). The part about the preppers all planing on how they would off each other rang true, since a lot of them seem to have a problem with authority or working together as a team.

The opening didn't make a lot of sense to me. Even if the learning place wasn't there, I thought Marge would at least be happy that the kids were getting exercise. The building's lock down measures were a literal case of shutting the barn door after the horse gets out.

Anyone else kinda squee at the (extremely rare) sight of Homer holding Maggie at the bug-out camp? Marge does it so much and so often, we don't ever see Homer hold her instead. He did one other time this season, too, but I forgot the episode. I just recall that he was shielding her from the oncoming rain.

I was just as surprised as the Simpsons that Springfield didn't totally fall apart.

There was one thing about this episode I loved big time, Homer wasn't a jerk. After the EMP, Homer wanted to help the people that didn't prepare. They didn't go the way of having Marge convince him, it was Homer doing it of his own choosing. They remembered that what we love about Homer is that he has a good heart, and is a good guy.

Was that Pyro? I thought it was L. T. Smash (aka Lt. Smash) from the N'Sync episode.

My favorite part was Lindsey Naegle propelling herself down the road by sitting in a wheeled office chair and firing a machine gun backwards. The expression on her face was priceless.

Wait, I recognized Herman. And Chalmers. But the other preppers have been in prior episodes? I thought these were all new characters.

The woman was Lindsey Nagle, real estate agent and sexual predator. She's been in tons of episodes.

After the EMP, Homer wanted to help the people that didn't prepare.

It was a good use of Homer, in that he was gullible enough to be taken in, but had enough heart in him to figure out that something wasn't right. I liked the fake wall in the basement, and Marge just closing him in behind it.

Of course Herman and Lindsey Nagle were there, but they actually surprised me by using Chalmers. Heh. There's a new side of a long running character I would not have assumed but am now perfectly okay with knowing. By the way, who does Chalmers voice? Is it Harry Shearer, which would mean he's talking to himself in every Skinner/Chalmers scene? Given that he does all of the Smithers/Burns scenes, it wouldn't surprise me.

I know that this is a bit late in the week to commit on this episode, but I did liked the story. The beginning wasn't bad and I did enjoy actually seeing Homer tyring to play with Lisa and Bart and that their were many different versions of Lisa and Bart at the indoor playground. Also I enjoyed seeing the fathers being the ones who freaked out, when one child left, and were attacking each other while the mothers came together and formed a circle near the entrance. IMO, it was a different take than what usually happens on Family Guy. IMO, Seth MacFarlane tends to have the women on his shows to be the ones who break down into anarchy and have the men somehow hold it together.

As with the main story line, it wasn't bad and I do think that Homer would've been a preper or at least someone who is more likely to believe that society/the world would end. I also liked what Homer did. IMO, it was a mix of actually using real preping skill (like creating bug out bags for all Simpsons family member (and Maggie got a pink one)) and extremely funny things, like Homer's fake basement wall and the cow birthing video. I also liked how Homer was the cause of the EMP, even though no one (including Homer) knew it was his fault. I did enjoy seeing the people adapting with out power (like how Lenny switched from using an electric razor to scissors) and seeing the children mailing letters to their friends!

Also, I was actually suprised (and happy) to see Herman amongst the prepers and to actually hear him say a few lines. IMO, it has been a long time since I have seen Herman on this show, I was wondering if they had written him out or killed him off but I was glad to see that he is still alive and crazy as ever. Also, it was also nice to see Lindsey Nagle and also Pyro.

As with the ending, I thought that the writers did a good thing and allowed Homer to come to the conclusion that the town needed supplies and that he acted independently from Marge.

The only thing that I didn't like was the very end with the zombies on the asteroid. I thought that the zombie part was over done (although very cute with seeing the father zombie argue with his zombie son) but I did like how their was a looming, possible apocalypse waiting to happen, which IMO should have just ended when we saw the asteroid coming to Springfield.

By the way, who does Chalmers voice? Is it Harry Shearer, which would mean he's talking to himself in every Skinner/Chalmers scene? Given that he does all of the Smithers/Burns scenes, it wouldn't surprise me.

Chalmers is voiced by Hank Azaria

I thought this episode was pretty good. Not the best story in the world but not a bad story by any means. Plus it had a ton of good, laugh out loud jokes and sight gags. Between this, the Homer's dog episode and the hipster episode that was three solid, funny episodes in a row, which I find is pretty rare for just about any tv comedy these days.
