The Monsignor confronts the Devil; Dr. Arden's experiments reach a shocking conclusion; Dr. Thredson facilitates a reunion for Kit.

Please don't post in here until after the episode is over.

Arden is done, Mutants are done, Sister Mary Satan is done, all that is left is Bloody Face Plot, Alien Plot, and the fate of Jude. I think that may have been the most plot-tying up non season finale episode of any show ever.

The Name Game number was an awesome juxtaposition to the dark tone of the rest of the series.

Also, a somewhat not half handed depiction of female on male rape. Most of the time these portrayals are for comedy, nice to see it done well for once. What an episode.

Also Monsignor MonsigSnotted all over the bread.

Name another show that can one minute freak you out with a musical number and then make you cry when two of the eviler characters on the show die.

Yes folks that was one of the freakiest musical numbers this side of Glee. I almost forgot that the same dude who makes Glee makes this show because AHS sure ain't Gleeful.

I am actually sad to see Sister Mary Eunice go. She was fun. I did however like her scenes during this episode. She hit all the right marks of a woman out of control. I loved her scenes with Lana, Jude and the especially the Monsignor.

So is Judy Martin going down the list of bad things she did to Lana. What's next on the list oh yeah conversion therapy. That should be fun to watch. Then again Judy Martin looks like she really is crayon short of Crayola Box. That was nice of her however to get Mother Superior to save Lana who does look like she needs saving Plucky or not. Thredson is a forminable enemy.

Poor Kit. Hey he's a daddy now of an alien baby.

So does it make me a bad person that I actually cried for Arden and Sister Mary Eunice during their death scene? The Nazi actually did love his sweat innocent nun. Hey redeaming quality at last.

I liked this episode. I missed you show. Never leave me again.

So that happened.

Hmmm how to put my thoughts on this episode.

Arden - dead
Sister Satan - dead
Threadson - On a leash

The side of good actually had some semblance of victory this week. Finally!

Monsignor got raped. That was unexpected. Glad that shortly after he killed the Satan Bitch, that way we wouldn't have been wondering if 2012 Bloody-Face isn't the other rape baby. Seriously what is this seasons fascination with rape? Shelly, Lana, and now Tim? The hell?

Really glad that Jude fessed up about getting Lana locked up. It looks like she has some legit hope of rescue.

So Grace had a baby and Pepper is it's protector. Cool. I was concerned for a moment for Grace's safety then I saw Pepper standing with her. And said out loud after Threadson threatened Grace and the child "Is Pepper gonna have to kill a bitch?"

All in all an excellent episode!

Bad Santa is still out there. I don't know why but I kinda like that.

The Name Game scene was one of the awesomest things I've seen on tv! That was kind of brilliant.
At first I thought it was just going to be a Judy flashback, but when you see the whole asylum was in on it, well I just started laughing and was smiling in awe from start to finish. Seeing everyone 60's dancing and such was so fun. I couldn't stop smiling.
I have to watch that again!

Oooh Mary Eunice AND Arden kick the bucket in one episode?! It certainly will be different without them. But I was getting a bit tired of Arden and his storyline.
Glad they didn't kill Kit.

Go Pepper! Poor Judy.

I haven't posted in a million years, and so many things about this episode were amazing! BUT can I just get an episode or bonus feature of Evan Peters dancing around gleefully? Between the first ep and him boogeying to "There Goes My Baby" and his pouty nodding and gleeful dancing here, I'm in lurve. Actually I want a whole bonus feature of a common room dance party. Those crazies have some killer moves and it was awesome to see them all having fun. The whole back half was just intense! Well done AHS.

Pepper was just outstanding this episode. Lots of opportunities for her to .. erm, shine? Just great. I loved that.
Arden dead and SisterMarySatan dead? Oh noes! That only leaves Threadson, the nutjob that jesus'd the Monsignior, and aliens ... But I'm going to miss the hell out of Lily Raab. And I'll never be able to watch "Babe" again either.

Loved that they had Sister Jude blab her crazy thoughts to the Mother Superior. He's going to be the Pope and I'm going to marry him in the Vatican! LOLZ. Jessica is just .. she can do anything. I think that jukebox boogaloo was what the "hint" was - because it sure seemed oddly out of place. But Jesica looked slammin' hot. So jarring to go right back to the haggard old crazy Nun.

OH, TBA I endorse the "Common Room Dance Party!" I think it should be a DVD extra.

This show is bananas in pajamas. I absolutely lost it at that musical number. I didn't know what to do with myself for the rest of the episode. This show is just.....bizarre in a good way. Whenever I think it can't possibly get any weirder, the whole asylum breaks into a musical number complete with choreography. I would have loved to have been on set that day.

I was not expecting Mary Satan to rape the Monsignor. I'm going to miss that old Devil. She was fun. Mean as fuck, right up until the end. But fun.

Oh, Arden. You really were such a pussy. Killing yourself over Eunice. Good god.

I am so over Thredson. At least Lana isn't putting up with his shit anymore. You go Lana Banana.

I felt so sad for Judy when it was revealed that it was all in her head. I thought it would cut to her dancing and leading the whole asylum.

I'm a little confused about Pepper. So she was wrongfully accused of murdering her sister's baby, but was she always lucid in her head? Dr. Arden told her that the aliens gave her speech, but her monologue implied that she was always had her intellectual capacities.

I was also surprised that I felt sad at Arden's death. I'm sure it was meant to be symbolic that the Nazi doctor dies in a giant oven.

Lily Rabe killed it this entire show, but especially in that last scene. It was legimitely upsetting that she couldn't conquer evil in the end.

I hope we see the Angel of Death again, if only because I think she's the most fascinating character on the show.

Not the first time. Because of the fact that you can inadvertadly get "fuck", shows that use the song go out of their way to avoid using names that can be turned into "fuck".

When Tiny Toon Adventures did an episode using the song, they had to omit Plucky Duck from it because of this problem.....

Also, a somewhat not half handed depiction of female on male rape. Most of the time these portrayals are for comedy, nice to see it done well for once. What an episode.

Amen! And it was...well, nice certainly isn't the right word... but good to see a man having the same guilty reaction to being "sullied" that a stereotypical female response would be. When he was praying and crying about having to confess and leave his beloved church, I was half yelling "You were RAPED! Your virtue has gone nowhere unless you believe Satan!" and half thinking "well, sad as it is, this is how a lot of rape victims think."
Everything was there--telling the victim he wanted it, that his weakness was what led to his being attacked, even having his rapist come back for another round because she "knows" he was into it. Ugh.

And it did redeem the good Monsignor a bit in my eyes, especially when he's crying to Jude about why didn't he believe her and now everything has gone to hell and Jude is, from the depths of her blurred, wiped mind, clearly thinking "no SHIT. Maybe next time you'll listen to me." Poor Monsignor. He was weak, foolish, and ambitious--always a bad combo--but he wasn't evil. He may not ever feel it, but he did defeat Satan. Not the way he wanted to, and he didn't feel the way he wanted to feel about it, but he still did it.

But...

Why did the Angel instigate all this? What's her reason for veering off her set piece? Did God command her or is this a personal side project?

Poor Kit. Hey he's a daddy now of an alien baby.

Alma who? Seriously, they are going to have the mother of all Relationship Talks when she gets back. Maybe after one of the disgruntled orderlies finally realizes Kit, with a price on his head, is roaming freely through the common room once again and calls the police and he's trapped in a small cell with no way out as Alma makes strenuous queries about this Grace person.

I'm a little confused about Pepper. So she was wrongfully accused of murdering her sister's baby, but was she always lucid in her head? Dr. Arden told her that the aliens gave her speech, but her monologue implied that she was always had her intellectual capacities.

I forgot about that scene with Pepper and Arden. That was some reveal if we're to believe that's how it really went down.

Things are getting too spicy for the Pepper! Seriously, is anybody in this damn place actually being held for something they actually did? Also, why was Thredson allowed to threaten Grace and Kit Jr. (to get Kit to reveeal the tape's hiding place?) Pepper was right there! Shouldn't she have tossed Thredson around a bit?

The Name Game number was an awesome juxtaposition to the dark tone of the rest of the series.

Ameri-can Hor-ror Stor-y, Banana Fanna Fo-fory, Fee Fi Fo-For-ee! Stor-ree!

Jessica Lange looked so fucking awesome in that sequence. And Lana and Kit grooving along while the inmates partied down was mind-boggling. It was like Jude finally got the curative responses she was always after while she was denying the part of herself--out of guilt--that could have actually made a difference. Too bad it was all in her head.

Yes, Jessica Lange totally killed it. The ECT scene really disturbed me. Judy reminds me of Sara Goldfarb from Requiem for a Dream.

I wondered if the Monsignor had been possessed, but the Angel of Death told Mary Eunice that she would take "both of [them]", so I guess the devil is gone for good.

I was disappointed with the oven scene. I did like the camera POV from inside the oven, and the finality of the door closing as the flames licked around the edges of the screen.

It was fitting send-off for SisMarySatan, and boy am I going to miss her. She's just fantastic, both character and actress.

But as far as Arden committing suicide this way, no. I see the death camp connection, but he went willingly, which was no fun. I would have liked it an appreciated it more with another character, but not with this guy.

Sorry if this is TL;DR--

After all he's done, in the death camps and in Briarcliff, to inflict helplessness, hopelessness, pain, and fear in others, I wanted the schadenfreude of a good old-fashioned Nazi roasting, and I was disappointed. He climbed up onto the slab willingly, and all along I've been hoping for the residents to give him what he has coming, and make him face it unwillingly, and in terror, not a suicide of his choosing, with resignation. I can see that at least at that point, he's feeling his own versions of helplessness, hopelessness, pain, and fear, but those are derived from his delusions about SisMarySatan's feelings for him as well as his own selfishness and narcissism, like in the scene where he's shoots the mutants. If he can't have what he wants, then "the experiment's over!" (Not that it was a good experiment, just that he's decided to destroy the toys in the sandbox and stomp home). I actually felt disgust at him when he put the gun to his head and didn't pull the trigger. Just off yourself already. What a drama queen and big faker. He only pretended he would kill himself just to get attention from SisMarySatan, and when she didn't utter a peep of "oh, poor you," he falls to his knees in a frustrated temper tantrum. Get over yourself already.

He's just a complete sicko, at work and in his personal life, and a selfish and completely self-centred one at that, and the admittedly immature viewer in me doesn't want to philosophize about what lessons he may have learned here, or how he's proven to us that he's got some humanity. This isn't real life, where I have to be mature and philosophical about such things. I wanted the a-hole to experience what another poster said in a previous thread, to get what he had coming to him from the poor residents of Briarcliff, and then let us watch as they danced in his entrails. Yeah, that's the character I love to hate, haha.

---

I wonder if the Monsignor may have finally grown a pair now, after going up against Satan.

---

Funny line from JessiaL when the nun comes to visit her in the common room: "We're going to be Pope!" LOL.

---

Bad Santa is still out there. I don't know why but I kinda like that.

I thought Jude killed him in her old office, and that the scenes after that when we saw him were flashback scenes? Do I have that wrong? I could be wrong here. It's been awhile.

---

La Lange killed it again! And she just looks so gorgeous with the crazy hair.

It's just not possible for her to look bad. She looks great with bed-head/electro-shock hair.

---

Frances Conroy's Angel of Death is still creeping me out. The way she sucks your soul out, and then those big wings enfolding over the dead body, like a vulture devouring its prey.

---

I just watched the Name Game scene again. OMG- The guy in the straightjacket bopping across the floor!
Pepper's gleeful(no pun intended) face was priceless.
That was three minutes of pure joy!

Wasn't that great? I loved the Gleeked-out song-and-dance number in the commons room! The Name Game! And she did it with "Lana-Bana bo-bana"! (After the last epi when Jude asked Lana if she could call her by her first name, it was nice to see the Lana Banana moniker come back.)

And the look on Pepper's face was just precious, wasn't it?

Evan Peters was living in that dance number. I don't even think he was in character at that point. I was cracking up at his faces.

They all looked like they were so into it and really letting loose. I can't wait to watch it again; I want to see if Carl and BF and the Monsignor were in there, bopping away, too.

Glad Arden didn't rape Mary Satan Eunice's corpse.

AMEN to that (no pun intended, I guess). For a second when he was standing over her I was like "He's not gonna....Oh thank god."
I was kind of upset about his death, to be honest. For whatever reason, I felt like he was an integral part of the season/Briarcliff, even if he was kind of a douche (okay and a Nazi). And now who's left in charge? The Monsignor?

Am I the only one who was kind of annoyed with this episode? Maybe not the whole thing, but definitely some parts. I can name more things that I liked about the ep than disliked, and yet I'm still sitting here like "wtf?" I mean, Arden's death was kind of a cop out, but of course Ryan Murphy would never miss out on an opportunity to shock the audience. I understand that nothing about this show is realistic, but it is too much to ask that SOME characters actually stay dead? I think Arden & Mary Eunice are finally toast (gah, too many puns) for good, but apparently anyone who's dead can just be saved by the angel of death or some aliens and then everything's hunky dory.
Overall, it was good that the monsignor "survived," because he finally decided to man up and kill Mary Eunice. The rape scene was incredibly...I can't think of the word...poignant maybe? Definitely well done as far as rape scenes go and I liked the fact that it wasn't 'glamorized' or anything like that.

After weighing the options, I'm glad that Mary Eunice/Satan is gone. She was getting a little too over the top and running out of bad stuff to do, plus everyone had realized she was actually evil. It was good that they didn't keep her around because I'm pretty sure her devil act would've gotten a little stale.

Don't even get me started on Grace. I've talked way too much about my dislike for her and that has not changed. Okay so Alma who? This whole storyline is pissing me off and I'm mad that it's one of the main ones left now. How is it even gonna pan out?
Also, as much as I like the new, sassy Pepper, the aliens plot is just giving the writers a justification for pretty much anything. Like, oh, Grace is alive? Aliens. Pepper can now form normal sentences WITH added 'tude? Those aliens are at it again! It's downright absurd. What's next? Thredson gets in on this?

LOVED the name game scene, though. Jude is easily my favorite and this scene was just a testament to how bizarre and f%"$!d up this show is. I really hope she gets her shit back together sooner rather than later.

Lana's basically got Thredson by the balls (oh god, please not another pun, I'm not even doing it on purpose) at this point. Which is kind of annoying being how bad of a dude he was, but also makes sense given his, erm, Mommy Complex I guess. How much time has elapsed since he escaped? Has he just been roaming around Briarcliff looking for the tape? Is he done being BF (since he said he cleaned the house and all that jazz, plus he's got a bun in the oven!)? And I still just can not find it in myself to root for Lana. I can't. I don't know why because I'm sure she's more than proved herself as a 'good guy,' and I don't like Thredson either, but I just find Lana to be grating. At least she got smarter in this episode.

This. so. much.

I was having a hard time deciding between her and the awesome Jessica Lange, but last night sealed it for me. From her delivery of lines like:

“It's a great big music box!”, "He meant nothing to me", and dedicating "I put a spell on you" to Jude, she killed tonight and all season.

And those lines/scenes don't even top her best of the year, dancing to "You Don't Own Me" in front of the cross.

Really sad to see her character go, and I hope they find a way to bring her back.

No, she slit his throat, but he survived. Last time we saw him, he had convinced the Monsignor that he was a changed man, and when the Monsignor was baptizing him, Evil Santa tried to drown him and then tried to kill him by crucifying him on that cross in the church.

I can just imagine the cast at the table read for this episode when it came time for the musical number. They were probably just like, wtf?, and thinking that the creators got this show mixed up w/Glee. Now if Glee has a few murders in the next episode I think we know that some script pages were mixed up. ;)

I was upset too that Rabe didn't get a GG nom, especially seeing as how Paulson got one but not Rabe, but I feel that getting an actual Emmy nom is the way to go. The GG awards are just a tremendous made up pat on the back award to get big celebrities together while drunk. I think an Emmy or SAG award is more prestigious than a GG. I think Rabe will get those nominations.

Well, I had to think about it for a minute too during the episode, because I couldn't remember if he'd been caught or not. I'm hoping that since he's roaming free now, he'll come back eventually. Ian McShane is such a good actor, but I have the feeling that if I saw him on the street, I'd end up running in the other direction.

A dance number! RM, your Glee is showing...
I did enjoy seeing Lana and Kit looking happy for once. I think they even left the weepy red eye makeup out for that scene. Loved the happy dancing intersperced with crazy pole headbanging. The 60's had some trippy music.

Ever notice they never Name Game "Chuck" or "Huck"?

Or Mitch? Lol, we're 12.

BUT can I just get an episode or bonus feature of Evan Peters dancing around gleefully?

Seconded!!!

All of the initially strong characters have at on point been reduced to emotional, stumbling wrecks (Arden, Jude, the Mons, Threds), and the weak characters have all been given power, albeit temporarily (Mary Eunice, although not by her own choosing, Lana, Kit (at least where Threds is concerned), Pepper). I wonder if that's the point of this season?

Did Sister Mary Satan pull strings to get Kit readmitted to Briarcliff? Wouldn't the fact that he was the subject of a statewide manhunt at least involve a visit from the Feebs? Also, now that she's dead, who will run Briarcliff? Random Nun #4? And will her appointment of Threds as a staff doctor and Kit's readmittance be null? What an anticlimactic death, though. I thought the battle would have gone on longer and stronger between her and the Mons. I also didn't think it would have been that easy to trick/kill her. I wonder if letting Mary Eunice die was part of the devil's plan? Like too many people knew and it wanted to find a less conspicuous host body?

Is Grace really alive? I mean, come on now. Grace's body might have been technically "fixed" by aliens, but is her mind intact? Could Satan possess her now that Mary Eunice is dead? I know the Angel said she was taking both the devil and SME when she kissed them, but she also said she was taking Grace and look how that ended up.

The spoiler that half the cast dies in thie ep was true. As long as Kit is still alive, I don't care. I need to find out what how he gets cleared up the BF charges. He's just so dim, though. "My baby? Are you sure?" "Yup!" "It's only been, like, two weeks since we screwed in the bakery." "I know! Weird, huh?" "Yeah! And, yay me!" He'd be on Maury every week, with chicks as far away as New Zealand claiming he was their baby daddy and him weeping that he just wants to be a part of the kids' lives.

Was anyone else surprised that the baby looked human?

I also thought Orderly Cliff/Clint was killed by Shelley in her escape attempt? Guess not.

According to the preview, looks like Lana gets out. I agree with whomever said that BF Jr is really the alien baby and Johnny McRattail just assumes he's Thred's kid. That baby is actually born now, unlike Lana's, and it has to end up somewhere.

It was sad to see Jude so messed up. I hope they bring her character back to it's stronger beginnings.

I was out last night, and missed the first half of the first showing, so what I turned the tv on to was the very beginning of the musical/dance number. Wow, that was one of my favorite things I've seen on all of tv in years. I loved EP's initial "WTF" face dissolve into, "alright, I'll join..." into "cracking smiles."

I want to know what else is on that jukebox. This could really go somewhere.
