Is there no thread for this? I searched. Anyway, even though I have a sentimental attachment to Dick Clark's New Year's Eve, we got bored with it last night, and I'm glad we did, because we spent the rest of our televiewing with Anderson and Kathy, who were on fire. I've seen them in past years and been intermittently amused, but this time they were consistently funny. I think because Kathy stepped up to the plate more, or they let her step up to the plate more; in any case, she was more aggressive, and the broadcast benefitted. A really remarkable broadcast, when you consider that (unlike with the Dick Clark thing) basically the whole time the camera is locked down on the two of them, just talking to each other, yet holding our interest so well that changing the channel is impossible.

I agree. I am usually away on New Years Eve and I used to watch Dick Clark (started watching since his first show in 1973). I laughed so hard watching this and i loved Kathy screaming for Ryan Seacrest, who I cannot stand.

Kathy actually set the tone well before the broadcast when she tweeted a pic of a half-naked Anderson while he was either in the shower or in the spray-tan booth and said something like, "This is why I thought it was a great idea to have Anderson and me share a dressing room!" Anderson then tweeted back to both her and CNN, "I'll get you for this. Somehow, someway, I'll get you both for this!"

BTW, boyfriend's obviously been working out -- he's got quite a slamming upper body now. Thanks, Kathy! :)

I loved the way she kept ribbing him about getting the Honey Boo Boo interview, then when the interview finally happened, she just stood there and let him dig himself into a deeper and deeper hole. The one time he actually wanted her to interject something she just said "No, I'm good." The look on her face during that interview was hysterical, she just left him hanging. I also loved how she kept saying they were going to have all these guests like Rihanna and he had to keep telling the audience it wasn't true.

I loved that, too. The message I got from her was: "I'm no stranger to the lower levels of pop culture, but even I won't touch this particular cultural train wreck with a barge pole."

CNN went out of their way not to promote it. I kept checking the TV listings to see if Anderson & Kathy would be on again this year and until a couple of days before 12/31, something else was listed for the time slot. I just happened to overhear a reference to it being on, checked again, and finally there it was in the guide. So I appreciated Kathy's comments about CNN dismissing the show as counter-programming and not promoting it.

I kind of wandered in and out, but wasn't Kathy doing an excessive amount of "I'm giving you a bj" jokes? I thought I saw it a couple of times and thought it was only, possibly, funny once.

I like them both but I didn't think it was as funny this year. Maybe they've gotten too familiar with each other off camera and AC no longer works the richkid/straightman-who-doesn't-know-pop-culture as well? I think their dynamic worked better when he seemed more uptight and wary of her antics and she was more -hoping- for a closer friendship but too outrageous to control herself enough to make it happen.

I dunno. I think I liked their "old schtick" better. Now they're more like equals, pals hanging out on NYE and not with enough funny stuff. (I did like KG fakely promising the big guests--but the fake digs at Seacrest get old, really fast).

I really like it, up until the BJ business. She really kept that going for too long.
