I would have been happier that Ted stealing Marvin's firsts wasn't directly tied to the Mother...if the building baby book explanation was less stupid.
Did my eyes deceive me or did they pull a few years later when it should be a couple years later?

They did, and I immediately started doing the math once again. Assuming that's Ted's first, she should be born in about 2 years.Did my eyes deceive me or did they pull a few years later when it should be a couple years later?
I could watch baby Marvin for the full 30 minutes. Robin is an awful human being. She needs to be back in therapy. With a female therapist.

I got a laugh out of Marvin constantly changing places (although that's yet another Friends ripoff) and Bro Bibs.
Lily's bisexual storyline needs to stop. It's not funny and it's just weird.
Ted was a douche, as usual, for not knowing better than to let the kid's parents take him to Santa or the other firsts. But the payoff joke with Baby Girl Mosby, plus Ted apologizing in the bar, made it worth it for me.
Robin just sucks. She treats people like crap and she's a shell of her kickass season one self. Her last scene in te nightie was just bizarre.
I don't get why the show is so awful to Patrice. It looks like Barney is using her to get to Robin. She's probably the only decent character left on this show.
And with the frequency that's she's been on the show in the past couple seasons, I'm wondering if she's a sort of Chekhov's Gun for the Mother.

If Barney is trying to get himself together, why is he on a date with Patrice?
Also, since we know that Barney and Robin are getting married or, at least, engaged, why is this being so drawn out. This isn't clever or creative just tiresome. They are acting like idiots and almost every character is pathetic.
The show is overly drawn out for no good reason because the fans are no longer staying for the story, but rather just to see who the mother is since they invested so much time to begin with. Future Ted doesn't seem any different from present Ted, which is what omniscient Ted is always going on about--how he grew and had to learn things.
I'm glad I stopped watching the show every week.

I'm just sad sometimes watching this show. What are they doing? I feel the way Ted probably will feel in a couple years when they release the latest bastardization of the Star Wars franchise.

The only thing I can come up with is, because Patrice isn't thin and beautiful. It can't be her quirks and eccentricities because pot, kettle.I don't get why the show is so awful to Patrice.

And honestly, like the characters in similar sitcoms (Seinfeld, Friends), the HIMYM gang are generally only nice to each other (at the very least, they will apologize to each other) and usually pretty horrible towards people outside their group. That has probably been true for a while, not just the last few seasons.

Robin and Barney is such a waste of time. We know they are engaged and getting married. Stop dragging on getting them together. Never mind that we have been waiting to see their stupid wedding for like 2-3 seasons now. And Patrice? What he hell is that.
Ted and lily and Marshall was stupid yet again as well I'm not even going to comment because its been covered. I will say, though that the little throwaways to a few years later used to be great and intriguing but now they just suck. It's just another tease to something that at this point I feel like we will never see lol. Just reveal the mother show! The characters are unlikeable and shitty and the sl are just ridiculous at this point.
I especially hate Ted at this point.

Not only irrational, but downright scary the way she screams angrily at her even in the office (of course, this is acceptable at the workplace, as are micro-minis).Also, Robin's dislike of Patrice is clearly irrational, but has yet to be explained why she dislikes her in the first place. The other co-worker doesn't seem to have anything against Patrice.

I was glad they remembered the GNB building since it's been a while since we've heard about it but I was surprised we apparently skipped over its completion (unless I missed it) which I would have thought would be a big deal.

And apparently Ted is still a professor, who knew? I certainly didn't. Instead all we have gotten is this crappy Robin and Barney storyline for 2 years now.

Robin is so pathetic it makes me want to cry. The teenage girl was cringe-worthy. Where the hell did that come from? Never seen it before, and it has been eight years. S1 Robin would so punch S8 Robin in the face, what a glorious ass-kicking that would be.

All that having been said, I did laugh a few times. Barney's tie saying "I'm too old for this shirt" did get a genuine laugh from me. robin wanting what she can't have was a callback to last season, where she wanted to be a pole-vaulter. Not sure where the line between 'paying attention to continuity' and 'trying to cash in on old plotlines' is.
I wonder why Barney said he and Patrice were 'kind of' on a date? My thought is that he just wanted to talk it out to her as a friend and she's giving him good advice. They might wind up being platonic friends, which would make Barney's... first female platonic friend.
Marshall rising up (out of the booth, pervs!) at Robin and Brandi was adorable.
I got nervous with Lily's "any idiot can take care of a baby" advice. I'd say that's the worst advice the show has ever given, even worse than "There's one girl for you, and you know instantly if she's the one, and you'll never be happy with anyone else no matter how well you click or how much effort you put into the relationship."
...I swear, I like the episodes until I come to write about them, at which point I forget what it was that kept me from detesting it.

I just couldn't do it...I could NOT watch Robin become a caricature any longer.

Lol. When I miss an episode, I just read the recap. Never felt like I missed anything. My DVR didn't pick this up. No harm, no foul. Doesn't sound like I missed much.

That’s really where I think they were going…at least Barney realizing that he was only interested in women for shallow reasons and that he needed to just spend time with someone for a little while without worrying about it. I’m not sure if they were on a serious date, or if it was more that Patrice realized he needed to talk and was filling that role and they were actually enjoying each others company. That is a development I can get behind.I would like to be optimistic and say that going out with Patrice is a sign that Barney can think about women as something other than sex partners but that is probably giving the show way too much credit.
The only thing that concerns me is that they will treat Patrice badly in the end, because she's not the ideal.
I actually didn’t hate this episode. I thought the Ted stuff was funny and realistic (although I thought it would be more that he was overdoing it with Marvin because he so badly wants a kid of his own, not because his building was finished). And the payoff at the end was great.
The only part I really didn’t like was Robin’s dumbass giggling and throwing herself at Barney. I know we’re leading up to them together or something, but that was just awful. I liked Barney’s side of things.

The bit in the beginning of Robin eating the lobster while her face puffed up was disgusting. And Robin's "flirty" voice made me wince every time.
