First it was New Jersey (my state) getting the MTV treatment by airing Jersey Shore. Now, its West Virginia's turn. Buckwild is an upcoming new show from MTV about 9 pals from Sissonville, WV having fun & being themselves. Basically, it will be West Virginia's version of Jersey Shore.

The first episode will air on January 3 at 10pm on MTV (ironically) taking over Jersey Shore's time slot.

Here is some information about the cast & preview of BUCKWILD.

MTV - BUCKWILD trailer

ONTD - MTV's BUCKWILD

After watching the preview, Its really making me wonder where MTV find these people or come up with such trainwrecks like this. I will most certainly watch it. I also can't imagine what state will MTV will try to mock next.

For me, shows like this cry out for the need to invent:
"The DVA: Digital Video Avoider" the anti-DVR, a device that ensures I will never accidentally tune into any part of this program.
Off the top of my head, some shows on my DVA are Honey Boo Boo, anything w/Kim Zolciak and Towing faux reality.

I agree completely, AladdinSane! I just want to add any show that relies on giant or poisonous snakes and the idiots that love them, and Bridezillas.

(When I saw the heading, I thought it was Flava Flav's ex getting another fifteen minutes.)

I live in West Virginia-was borned here-so I will watch with great amusement. But if you really want some grea shit on WV, watch the documentary "The Wild Wonderful Whites of West Virginia" (last name, not race)

I was born there too, which is why I won't be watching. That is a great documentary though. I also thought like a poster above, that this was going to be about Becky Buckwild and was like REALLY? I just have no interest in any more shows stereotyping people from the south. My God, wasn't Honey Boo Boo enough!?

I really enjoyed that documentary. I'm a sucker for this sort of thing, so I'm sure I'll watch Buckwild.

I wont be watching. I saw the commercial and it had an even more "exploitative" feel about it the Jersey Shore. I doubt that the media or Hollywood will embrace any of these kids like they did on JS.

I did too! Once I read the show description, I was simultaneously relieved that it wasn't about her and horrified (is that too strong a word? Maybe disgusted is a better word) by what it is about. Ugh.

Aside from Honey Boo Boo, I am not here for any redneck foolishness. At least the guys on Jersey Shore were hot. Everything about this screams hot ass mess.

Wow, I was sure MTV was priming the "Theriot" family from their not 1 but 2 True Life specials to be the hillbilly family of choice for a reality series. They must not have been interesting enough. That or they wanted to go with back woods hillbilly vs bayou billy. Either way, I'm not sure how interesting this show will be. If I had to choose between watching Jersey Shore or this, I'd probably choose this. Not that I'd want to watch either one.

So US Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia is asking MTV not to air "Buckwild," calling it "ugly, inaccurate," and "disgusting." In other news, the producers of "Buckwild" are dancing with joy at the free publicity.

Meh. If I want over-the-top Hillbilly antics I'll go visit my maternal relatives. I did enjoy "The Wild and Wonderful Whites..." though. That family is a trip.

How come the hillbilly shows of the 1960's and 1970's were making fun of southern people but they were not trashy. Like Beverly Hillbillies and some other shows. I know they didn't make humor out of bodily noises and bodily functions. But at least with those shows you didn't have to take a shower afterward from the filth on today's shows.

New York, I guess, with Washington Heights. Their geographically based stereotyping is an interesting approach to television when you really think about it.

Wow, I was sure MTV was priming the "Theriot" family from their not 1 but 2 True Life specials to be the hillbilly family of choice for a reality series. They must not have been interesting enough.

Yeah, they probably wanted to give them a series but decided to scrap it at the last minute. That's how we got the original Fat Camp, which was going to be a multi-episode series and ended up crammed together as a True Life special. (We all know they dropped the ball on that one though given what a smash hit Fat Camp ended up being.)

I have negative feelings about this show because if it becomes popular I will lose even more faith in humanity.

Ha!! Jescoe is some good shit! I'm sorry but I let out a cross between a laugh/snort/scream because I just wondered how long it would take someone to mention the Wild and Wonderful Whites lol. So glad I didn't have to wait too long!!
Back on topic, im from little old Eastern Ky and I'll be watching, too. Mainly just to see all the things I can point at and say, "Hey, I've done that before" haha. Is that wrong?

Wow, MTV is sure pushing this show heavily. It doesn't seem remotely interesting to me. Maybe once the individual personalities are developed? But their "antics" just seem dumb, in the promos.

Why don't the girls have southern accents?

Well, first of all, the prime WV accent is not at all southern. Less drawl, more twang.

Second, Sissonville is 5 miles outside Charleston, the state capital, and certainly part of the metro area population of 300k. Not large by most standards, but hardly small townish when considered altogether. Charleston has an excellent independent bookstore, a spectacular concert hall with a great museum/children's museum, a number of great restaurants of both the spendy and less-spendy varieties, all sorts of ethnic cuisine available at a variety of price-points, a great farmer's market, some good coffee shops, regular performances by a good regional symphony orchestra, a great gourmet ice cream store, outposts of most of the big chain stores, a number of movie theaters, and the occasional monster truck show. :)

I mean, Sissonville looks rural and the culture there is pretty... country, but that's a choice, rather than the sociocultural isolation of living in the middle of nowhere. They have KTA service into Charleston. The real 'country' is down in the southern part of the state or up in the central WV mountains - Boone or McDowell or Webster Counties.

So most people in that area don't have accents since they are actually more north than south? Yet they are still going for the hillbilly exploitation angle. Curious. Oh, and thanks for the explanation!

Well, there are a fair number of accents around. They are just not ubiquitous. I lived in the south as a very young child and LOST my southern accent with a move to WV (though people in WV think I am from 'up north'). Maybe 20% of people in the Charleston area have accents (which are markedly different than southern accents, though not necessarily northern. Just different.) The accents are more likely to be strong and prevalent in genuinely isolated communities, which Sissonville is not.

My family is all from East Tennessee and have very strong accents. I grew up in the midwest but spent my summers in TN as a child. I picked up the accent when I was a kid. I no longer have an accent unless speaking to southern relatives, it just comes back around other southerners (not intentionally).

I will be amazed if everyone makes it through the season alive. There must have been at least 10 potentials for broken necks in that episode.

I stopped by MTV last night to check this out but the sound was replaced by what sounded like a stuck car horn. I checked back a few times to see if it was fixed, but it seemed to continue, so I gave up. Strange, but I took the hint and watched something else.

I thought the same thing!

I knew the "new bestie" feelings towards Cara weren't going to last long with the girls. She isn't a friend since childhood and all the guys were way too into her. Since she ran off in her truck, I wonder if we'll see her again?

I'm mildly fascinated by the guy you can't understand who lives in the holler. He seems very happy with himself and his lifestyle. Glad it's him and not me.

Overall, I thought the show was pretty harmless.
