The CSI team lends a hand to local law enforcement on the strip with several arrests until a John Doe is found in car. Also, things become personal for Captain Brass when he discovers some facts about his daughter.

Not really looking forward to the return of Ellie.

Are they setting up the departures of Jim and Conrad?

A decent amount of Nick and Sara in the episode.

College boy deserves 10-15 just for being smarmy.

Pretty good episode. Not a lot of Finn, no D.B. family drama. Some family drama (Brass's daughter, Conrad's future), but not enough to distract me from the main plot. I've seen those 3-D printers before, and the idea that one could make untraceable guns is scary. I wonder how reliable the science is on those--mainly if it could actually fire a bullet accurately. The only nitpick I might make is that is was so convenient that the police van brought in almost everyone connected with the murder. Wasn't anyone else arrested on the strip that evening? (The clown was the only one who wasn't involved anywhere and the little person was only connected because his actions distracted Lydia's filming or she would have caught the murderer on tape, but that was his only 'role' in the story). Other than that, I liked the episode.

Oops: Forgot another one: The guy wearing the fake horse's head. He didn't have anything to do with the murder (he had drugs on him, but not the same stuff as the dealer).

Have TPTB been reading this forum and actually toned down the Shue to a bearable level? Total bonus that there was very little of her in this episode and when she did appear, she kept the overbearing smugness at bay. Not a bad episode; more like the real CSI for a change.

It's become so predictable that seemingly random or unconnected people will end up tied to the same case. Do they really think we are surprised by this at all anymore?

I was glad that neither of the random uniform cops we were introduced to ended up dead or involved in the crimes somehow. I was waiting for that happen.

I hope they're setting up Alimi Ballard, the cop who was talking about hanging up the uniform to become a detective, as a regular or semi-regular. He would be a great addition to the show.

ETA: Too late. He's going to be a lead in another Jerry Bruckheimer show on TNT. Pity.

I agree, I really liked him. And it would be nice to see some diversity in the cast.

I don't mind the reintro of Ellie - it takes me back to old school CSI before the unbearable Shue lol. I was happy she was not a major part of the story this week. The case itself reminded me of an old school CSI as well.

Although it bugged they kept saying "the Strip" when they were clearly on Fremont Street, because I don't consider Fremont the Strip.

NoOoOoOoOoO! I mean, that would be a deal breaker for me, seriously. Which is funny, considering how much I disliked Ecklie when he was first introduced; now I like him so much, I can't even read fanfic where he's the bad guy or a total psycho or something.

And Brass, no way.

I liked Alimi Ballard, so much so I was afraid him saying he wanted to be a detective was his death sentence or something.

At first I thought he was going to substitute Officer Mitchell, or Mitch (his real name is Mitchell, too, also he's credited as technical consultant, so I'm guessing he's an ex-cop?), so I was growling at him, a little. Because I love Mitch. A lot.

I won't mind Ellie coming back if it's just a storyline, I can always fast-forward over it. But Jim Brass can't leave. Come on, Paul, you're gonna leave us with Elisabeth Shue going off the rails every few episodes or so? Unacceptable!

I really enjoyed this episode - it was a palate cleanser after last week's FINN IS A LOOSE CANNON!-fest. Also, it's fun to see Greg get really annoyed at someone, "Don't touch ANYTHING!"

I felt sorry for the girl who was filming, but only up to a point - maybe if she'd gone to the police station and left the camera there, rather than a dumpster in a dark alley? What was she thinking? "I might have evidence of a murder, let me go somewhere dark and creepy in the middle of the night." Or was it already during the day? I don't know, those two 'viral video' kids were really, really stupid. And if I think that I might have inadvertently filmed a murder, a police station might be the best place to plant my stupid ass.

I don't know when the girl went there, but it would have helped if Sara had chosen somewhere else for the drop, rather than a dark and creepy alley. No one has heard of FedEx overnight? Why is Sara so familiar with what is in specific dumpsters behind some casino anyway?

I don't know if I could take the departure of Brass. Since D.B. apparently is so blinded by SuperShue that he can't keep her from going off the rails, we need Brass or someone to balance out the madness.

Brass leaving would be the end of CSI for me since he's really the only reason that I've kept watching but if Ecklie took the sheriff job, i could see Brass moving to undersheriff and having a reason to take a more limited role. However, isn't sheriff an elected position? I seem to recall Grissom taunting prior sheriff's about getting re-elected.

I don't mind Ellie coming back mostly because they started something and then left it hanging for 6 seasons. Just kill her off and be done with her. Then Brass can retire and start his new crusade of trying to save young girls from heading down the same path as Ellie.

When I first saw the clown, I wondered if it was supposed to be the same one from the lab rats episode a few seasons ago. All I remember is Catherine standing outside one of the interrogation rooms and Brass slammed the clown against the window.

And yeah, telling camera girl to leave potentially crucial evidence in a dumpster was definitely a WTF moment for me.

Sheriffs are elected to four-year terms in 41 states, two-year terms in three states, a three-year term in one state (New Jersey) and a six-year term in one state (Massachusetts). (wikipedia)

CSI tends to be unrealistic at times, but I doubt they'd go as far as forget about something like elections.

Wasn't there talk about the sheriff resigning? I don't know the specifics for Nevada to know if in the case of a resignation, there is a temporary appointment to fill out the term or if there is a special election.

Alimi Balard was a regular on Numb3rs and I loved him then. It was great to see him again . I too hoped he would be at least a recurring character, but am glad to hear he will be in a new series on TNT.

Me too!

This felt like the old CSI, lots of Nick, Greg, Brass and Sarah.
Although I kept wondering if there shouldn't be a fall out for Sarah for sending a girl into a dark alley with evidence. Seriously, when stupid youtube kid said it was his fault I was thinking that if it was anybody's fault (aside from the killer) it was Sarah's. She really should have known better.

I always liked Brass, so I hope this means we will get at least one more Brass episode. If Ellie storylines are the only ones they can give him, so be it.
Now if they really want to make me a devoted CSI fan again they bring back Donna Murphy and let his story have a happy ending by sending him on a date. I will promise I will sit through and watch two Shue centered episode without yelling at my screen if that happens.

I enjoyed this episode, as long as i ignored the fact that the hooker, Chastity, was supposed to be from my hometown of Butler, PA. Granted, I haven't been back since 1998, but I don't sound like Chastity, nor do my siblings-more Pittsburgh, less mutant Jersey. Much like her, though, I left town as soon as I could-there really isn't anything there.

Yes to all of this but most especially bringing back Donna Murphy! Paul G said in an interview earlier this year that if you ever hear Brass saying he's taking a job in L.A., Annie Kramer is the reason why so it sounds like he'd agree with you. And I'd watch two Shue episodes and a Fish guest appearance.

Current publicly known technology suggests the hitman would've needed to be near contact range. And never mind the hitman's plastic allergy, he was lucky the gun didn't explode and take his fingers off! Here's somebody's blog post about that stuff, most relevant in the first paragraph: http://haveblue.org/?p=1349

If they set up an Ellie story, they better have her appear soon, not 3 years from now.

Anyway, I liked this episode. I'll note Finn was practically anonymous.

This bugged me too. If the woman didn't want to go to the cops, why not just tell her to walk into any Casino and turn the camera over to security/lost and found? A casino with high security and tons of cameras would be a hell of a lot safer than a back alley.

Also I never noticed this before (and I still think Brass is a great character), but did they just steal all of Lennie Briscoe's back story and apply it to Jim Brass. I mean both are/were detectives from the US east coast, both have failed marriages, both are ex-alcoholics and both have estranged daughters with drug problems.
