From SNPP:

Lisa wins a Mapple MyPod for Homer, who thinks that Steve Mobs can communicate from the dead through it to him; when it breaks, Ned discovers a "miracle tree" in the Simpson yard

I bet this was written while Steve Jobs was still alive, then changed it when he died. Then they'll reveal he was alive somewhere this whole time.

ETA: Bob on the Wright brothers plane!

“20 More Shoplifting Days ‘til Christmas!”

Yes, Homer is so stupid, he almost drowns in his sleep when it rains. Really loved his baseball dream, though. The ocean fills up the stadium, and the ground crew STILL tries to pull out the tarp.

Liked the silent auction bit. Of course Rev. Lovejoy would bid like hell on the train set. He even wins it!

“Remember when me getting a cell phone was a big deal?” Absolutely loved that callback with Moe. He still doesn’t have one!

So, the show is a few years late to making fun of Apps, but we had lots of great ones. I really want that mustache one, and "distracted driver" and the Burns-to-Normal translator (I believe it was called Rosetta Crone) were pretty brilliant.

Lots of good sign gags tonight: Springfield Zoo: "See all your animal friends in Prison!", Marge's "The Girl Who Regretted Her Tattoo" book, "All Hope Lost For Missing Hiker" during Homer's "hope" montage.

So we got more of Kent Brockman's backstory: He became disillusioned with hope after seeing a Mickey Mouse character at Disneyland out of his costume. Also, we finally have confirmation that Kenny Brockelstein was his real name.

Because the show was short, we got a parody of "Logorama." Not complaining, this was probably the biggest instance of continuity porn in the entire series. Funzo blew up a Mr. Sparkle billboard! All the logos in that bit were all from the show.

This was a consistently entertaining episode, and I was amazed at all the callbacks: Moe and the cell phone, Bob and the Wright Brothers plane, Kenny Brockelstien, Homer dreaming about anthropomorphic food, and all the characters/products in the closing short. Malibu Stacey! The Happy Little Elves! (Well, one of them.) Funzo! Burly!

And Apu's religion being upgraded from miscellaneous to other. I liked the end, it felt like the sappy ending was earned, like the old days ("Do it for her"), or something Futurama would do. I wasn't a huge fan of the Mapple parody, I think they've exhausted the humor from Apple products.

I'll have to watch the end short with the magic of the pause button, to catch all of the freeze frame logos. I missed Mr. Sparkle :(

I thought the episode was OK, but I didn't at all understand the tacked on bit with all the logos. "Logorama"? I guess I'm not familiar with it at all. I liked seeing things I recognized, like Mr. Sparkle, but found the whole thing a bid befuddling.

I don't think they've exhausted the Apple topic. It is certainly a significant part of current American culture and given the various opinions of it (anywhere from disdain to reverence,) it is an ideal topic for a social satire show like The Simpsons.

They do seem to have a little bit of an edge to them when they bring up Mapple though. I imagine that there might be at least one person in TPTB of the show's team that had a run in or two with Apple.

I was amused that Homer specifically mentioned Tapped Out and the screen they showed when he did.
