Since there is only about a month or so left before this and because of Superstorm Sandy, I wonder if the locale for TARCon XXI will be moved from New York to some other place, or just cancelled outright.

Cancel? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Won't midtown be back in business by then? Fluffing the local economy is always good.

I'm also happy to help find a spot in DC -- may be more convenient for the southerners and not far from NY. No racers, obviously, but it's all about the Race.

Well, my alternate choice of city in this case to hold TARCon XXI would be Boston, where I live - yeah so I am biased, but Boston (and DC, for that matter) is just four hours away from NYC. Boston wasn't hit badly by Sandy or the Nor'easter for that matter.

Nothing has been canceled. Missdona doesn't usually open the TARcon thread until we have details worked out with the venue, or one month before, whichever is later. We are working on getting things settled and as soon as we do, details will be posted. If anyone has questions, please email me at Meggin512 at yahoo dot com

In the wake of Sandy, NY could use visitors. I hope we'll see a lot of you in town for TARcon.

Unfortunately, I will not make this one *if* this stays in New York because I will be on my probationary period for my new job.

Let's wait on discussing this too much until there's actually something to discuss. Thanks.

TWOP Roxy- Could you move this post to the top? Or open another thread with it, please?

TARcon XXI is Dec 9.

Our new home is
Houndstooth Pub - Lower Bar We will also have access to the Back Bar.
520 8th Avenue @ 37th Street

$82 - 3 hour plan - Open (Top Shelf!) Bar 6:00PM to 9:00PM and a la carte menu. Check in will start at 5:45 PM
Maximum: 75 people

$56 - 2 hour plan - Open (Top Shelf!) Bar 7:00PM to 9:00PM and a la carte menu. Check in will start at 6:45 PM, Entrance at 7:00 PM.
Maximum: 100 people

"Top Shelf" is everything but shots including their "infused vodkas" -currently [will update when I find out] and signature cocktails.

Checking In: Bring your Paypal receipt (email or printout from Paypal) for admission. Meg20 will not hesitate to throw you to the back of the line for not bringing your Paypal receipt.

Again, we're requiring shipping addresses with your Paypal payment. But remember, No ticket of any kind will be issued. None will be mailed to you and none will be handed out to you. Your valid paypal receipt is your "ticket."

Deadlines for all are 12/2, but please pay early. We have to give a pretty big deposit ASAP.

Gratuity for your prepaid drinks is included; please tip appropriately after 9:00 PM and for any a la carte food or drinks. The bar will stay open (l-a-t-e) on a cash basis. They said as long as we're drinking, they'll stay open. The kitchen will close around midnight.

Coat check is unknown at this point. I will update as soon as I know.

There will be no goodie bags.

If you plan to drink to the point of puking, don't forget to bring someone to get you home safely and it's BYOB (Bring Your Own Bucket).
The TARcon and bar staff and don't want to have to baby-sit you. Furthermore, if you plan to drink to the point of berating people, don't be surprised when you get thrown out. If you get thrown out, please leave (go home/elsewhere). Please don't stick around and harass people. If you do get asked to leave, you will not be allowed back to another TARcon. This is a private event and we can exclude you if necessary. Please don't make me do it. Bottom line? Bring a sober buddy if you plan on being out of control.

Your entrance does not guarantee you a seat, a picture or anything else other than open bar and race viewing during the paid time. Of course, you'll have a better chance at a seat if you are on the three hour plan.

There are no refunds. If you can't go, try to sell your spot to someone else.

Comps: Because of budget, comps can only be admitted after 9:00. If any comp would like to come before 9:00, they will have to pay the cover charge (contact Meg for more specific details). If you are a comp or know a comp and will be coming after 9:00, please contact Meg directly. I need the names for the count. Depending on number of comps, we may have to evoke limited numbers per guest. Please get your request in early to avoid disappointment.

Donations for overhead are welcome.

Meg20 is empowered to answer all questions, so ask her if you need anything.

New York is waiting for you... Go!

Bought my ticket, and booked my hotel (Thanks Travelocity!).

Looking forward to another great night. Unfortunately, my buddy who I brought last time is unable to make it this time due to work obligations, but he insists he will return to the May event.

See everyone there!

PM'd David ;) It was pretty tough to find anything reasonable this time, due to holidays or Xmas season or whatever, still spent 200 bucks, which isn't great.

This is going to be a crazy weekend. I'll be in Chicago Friday night, flying back to Albany Saturday night, will stay with a friend there, then take a train to NYC Sunday morning. Can't wait!

Never mind. Just Pricelined for a mystery hotel (never done it before as it scared me) and found a room in SoHo for $250/night.

I'm in. See you all there. Chippies for the win!

I have booked the 3-hour tour. Will be coming up just for the day/evening though. Train out at 11:58. Now, how many cosmos should I drink to be able to recognize and disembark in Philadelphia? I'm fairly certain 7 is too many.

I'm not sure what is in a Cosmo, but seven is never a lucky number when it comes to alcohol. A much better number would be nine! But here is the best solution:

Buy a dozen up front, and line them up on the bar. Then you throw away the first one because everybody knows the first one never tastes as good as the rest. Then you throw away the last one because it's always the last one that gets you drunk. Then you enjoy the remainder, secure in the knowledge that they not only taste great, but that you won't wake up in a dumpster with a new tattoo!

BTW, why is it you only manage to make TARCon when I can't?

I'm so sorry Netfoot. Now that I'm not singing any more, I think I'm in for Decembers. And if hockey never comes back, there'll be no inconvenient playoffs in May to interfere.

Happy Thanksgiving every(U.S.)one. I finally get them convinced to let me bake and have my first ever baking disaster. The cakes fell. So I'm selling this as an iced two-layer brownie.

Hey y'all. Question: is it incredibly weird for a woman to travel from Chicago to NYC alone to attend her first TARCon? I'd hate to spend the money to end up being bored alone in a corner... Any pointers?

It's not weird. Hell, I'm usually the one alone at parties (though I don't gravitate toward corners). It's a cinch for me, since it's a short drive from home, and I cannot imagine seeing a season finale at home by myself. Seeing the action unfold with lots of fellow fans is an experience unto itself.

Definitely do it! I've come alone to every TARCon I've been to (except last season), but you make many friends quickly (granted I was pretty nervous at my first one (TAR12) and didn't do much socializing - don't repeat my mistake!). It's a blast to watch the finale with fellow fans. As for pointers - just don't by shy. All of us there have something in common, so it's an easy icebreaker to talk about the show. Never been to Chicago, but will be there the Friday and Saturday before TARCon as well!

Do it, blueang. None of us knew each other at first and now the peeps I've met at TARCons are some of my best friends. The fact that you traveled to come to watch the finale already gives you lots in common with everyone else there. Look for some of the names you see here and we can introduce you around. You'll be fine.
