From Zap2it:

Graffiti artists help the designers spray paint fabric from which they must create wearable art.

Thank goodness...I was worried about Kayne going home. He's definitely not the best designer there, but I just love him anyway. I won't miss Suede in the least, but I'd have loved to see Laura Kathleen go with him.

So now taggers are called "Aerosol Artists"? Good to know there's a politically correct term for vandals. *LOL*

So is Laura Kathleen really for real? She seems to be playing at this exaggerated Valley Girl/Mean Girl/Rich Girl kind of caricature. Trashing people while supposedly they're trashing her???? Bi-Polar much? I think somebody forgot her meds. She needs the boot.

Hated Andrae's look
Hated Uli's look
Loved Kayne's look
Hated Laura Kathleens look
Loved Anthony Ryan's look
Loved Cassanova's look
Hated Emillio's look
Hated Suede's look
Hated Althea's look
Hated Ivy's look
Loved Joshua's look

Weird Lumberjack-clad designers. Never heard of them. Are they relevant?

So much messiness and chaos masquerading as "fashion".

AnthonyR rocked the dress. Absolutely adorable. I'd wear it in a heartbeat.

Hostess chick needs to NOT say "We need to have a little chat, then we'll call you back". That is Heidi's line.

Glad Suede is gone. He brought nothing but sad desperation, and in the 3rd person.

Can't believe Emillio got raves & the win. That outfit looked like it weighed a TON. It resembled one of those personalized airbrushed license plates you can get at a mall to put on your pickup truck.

3 episodes in, and my disappointment with this cycle has not abated.

I liked Anthony's, Kayne's and Emilio's the best. Kayne's looked like art. So many of them didn't - they just looked like prints, such as Uli's, Laura's, Althea's. I did not like Ivy's at all. The jacket was well-made but I thought words are superhero kind of lame. I almost liked Joshua's, but it reminded me a tourist shirt that has scenes and symbols of the city all of it. Bottom should have been between Laura and Suede. Laura's was awful but Suede's was worse.

I couldn't help thinking that if Wendy was still here if someone would paint a mustache on her fabric.

Hostess chick needs to NOT say "We need to have a little chat, then we'll call you back". That is Heidi's line.

I think that's why this host and Andrea from last year are so stilted in their speech. They are saying Heidi's lines instead of having their own. Once they weren't reading off the cue cards they sounded much more natural.

"Oh, I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay!" I thought they gave some pretty good criticism. Especially for lumberjacks.

So glad Suede is gone. He bugs. He just looks dirty. I don't think Kayne has much talent, but at least he looks like he showers.

Why didn't Joanne tell Suede how "craft project" his "polka la la la" crap looked? Did she want him gone too?

Hated ivy's- I was shocked it was in the top! The front looked bug and shapeless, and the back cutout came out of nowhere. The white skirt looked tacked on and at odds with the outfit. The words could have been much better integrated into the design in a more vomic/superhero style, and not simply written down the sides of the jacket.

I think they were way too kind to suede. That was atrocious! The circles ("paillettes") wre all uneven looking like a kid cut them out of construction paper!

Liked AR's but it was too short.

Agreed with Emilio's win but the colors were blinding.

Josh's was artsy but the top and bottom were completely different dresses!

I really liked Casanova's look. I would have put that above Emilio's. However, out of the three I guess I'd give it to him. I hated him in his season, but so far not as much this time around. I swear Oscar the Grouch was gonna jump out of Suede's dress. He needed to go. I really wanted Kayne to stay. If he'd taken out the middle section and pulled up the bottom, maybe that would have worked for them? I really hated Andre's look again.

Two guys dressed like lumberjacks gave the best critiques of the season, so far. Go figure.

I thought Josh's was the worse. Not sure why he wasn't in the bottom.

Kayne still making ugly pageant gowns.

I thought Andrea's belonged in the top three.

Hated both Laura's and Ivy's looks.

Emilio still reminds me of Tom Collins from Rent. Loved his look. I thought he was the right winner.

Emilio is one of my favorite PR designers ever so I am happy he won. The outfit was supposed to be wearable art and his fit the bill. Also liked Anthony Ryan's dress and Kayne's. That's two weeks in a row that I liked Kayne's designs and the judges put it in the bottom. Of course, these judges don't make it clear who is in the top or bottom until they deliberate.

Really hated Ivy's suit and thought it looked like a high school project. Suede clearly had the stinker of the night though with the paper looking circles.

Are we supposed to be familiar with the gay lumberjacks?

There was no way Suede wasn't going home for that monstrosity. At least now I'll stop confusing him with Kayne.

This challenge made me misty eyed for the season when Vincent, of "It turns me on" fame, basically wrapped his model in paper so tightly she could barely walk and painted the front of it in the recyclables challenge.

ETA: I knew his name was Vincent and wrote Victor anyway. Ah well.

Actually that was Vincent (I only remember because I love the name Vincent). But I also flashed on the recylables episode. "Wearable Art" - same deal, different fabrics. Anthony Ryan's was wearable, but not art. It seems like he made a boring blue dress and won for it before? I wasn't a fan of his, so I'm not sure, but his dress seemed familiar for him.

Aside from a select few, the outfits were pretty decent. It was nice to see color on the runway. My favorites were Kayne's and Emilio's. While I didn't care for Anthony Ryan's I can see why someone would like it, I can't say the same for Ivy's.

Even if I disagree with the judges, I do like that their criticism was actually constructive.

Suede sure did look sad.

I won't complain that he was sent home since his dress was fairly hideous, but would have preferred it to be Laura Kathleen. I don't like her at all and think her clothes (both the ones she wears and the ones she makes) are ugly. Plus, someone here named her flat-face Barbie in her season and it's all I see whenever she's on screen.

ETA:

Yes, the all-stars judges are much more constructive than Nina, Michael, and Heidi. Their comments are usually along the lines of it looks expensive/poor (Nina), I would wear it/never wear it (Heidi), it's too grandma/Halloween/witchy/whatever (Kors), along with general praise/bitching about the styling.

What is with all of these staged announcements?? Laura Kathleen (ugh) at Mood, Emilio announcing the time to go to workroom.Sounds so forced. And I am on board with everyone hating Laura Kathleen. Her voice is incredibly grating.

Maybe I am old but I just want to see some pretty clothes one of these days...instead of arts and crafts.
Sigh.

As far as the creations:

Andre:I liked it, lol. I think it did look like art and a dress. His best thing so far.
Ivy: Not a fan of sheer skirt trend. But what do I know...relieved she did not win.
Kayne: I love Kayne and I did kind of like parts of his creation. Kate Middleton?? But he does has a tacky vibe. I'm sorry they didn't like it but I agree about the outlining being weird.
Emilio: Aminat looked great, lol, outfit is cool. She has a beautiful flawless face and sold the dress.Love her walk too. Glad he won. Do we know if model gets anything this season?
Laura Kathleen:Not art. Not special. Too short. Looks like a tie-dye gone wrong.Hem points to the crotch, lol. Damn, I wanted her to be "auffed".
Althea:Nothing art about it, just a dress with an ugly pattern.Lucky to be safe.
Cassanova: Not a great fit on model.
Uli:Eh.Not wild about it. She was just safe and knew it.
Anthony R.: His print reminds me of Emilio's from his season.Shoes too matchy-matchy. Dress okay, but art? Surprised they went wild over it although the print ended up looking good.
Josh: Forgettable to me....
Suede:Oh dear, that hair. And lol about wearing a bra, going for brownie points, didn't work .That top was fugly.Bye-bye.
I think I may have missed someone...they were all kind of a blur.

Hostess Carolyn...even a little more relaxed than in prior weeks, she is still talking like she is speaking to deaf people who are lip-reading. Her going-away speech to Suede was hysterical-reminds me of how in grammar school nowadays you have to be a winner even if you are a loser.

As for the bottom designers,I did agree with all three for once. Glad Kayne was spared-he gives me a happy feeling even if he comes up with some weird ones.

Overall, this group of people is not a very interesting mix. Ivy and LK are thorns in my side. Uli barely said boo tonight so I figured she was safe. Emilio can be overbearing but he usually gets the idea of the challege.

I was really impressed with the creativity of all of the designers. This challenge was awesome! While I didn’t care for Andre’s dress nor Suede’s I can appreciate the effort and the concept. I hated Carolyn Murphy’s dress. It was absolutely hideous. She should’ve taken it off and traded with one of the All Star’s dresses. (I swear that woman is like watching paint dry.) I just noticed that Emilo’s model was on America’s Next Top Model her name is Aminat. I think she’s beautiful! Emilio deserved to win. Good for him! I loved his outfit along with Anthony Ryan’s, Uli, and Joshua. Ivy’s two piece outfit was great but once again she incorporates sheer fabric on the skirt. Why? Really Ivy? Another Jacket? Didn’t Ivy make a jacket on the first challenge and added sheer fabric on that awful green, gladiator top with the gold metallic shit on it during the shoe challenge? In regards to Suede being eliminated, I think he has many great ideas its execution he lacks. He also needs to find one theme and stick to it.

I’m sorry, but “aerosol art” is a really pretentious phrase, it's graffiti.

Ivy & Kayne talking about Laura had me laughing my ass off. If Laura is really saying those things, I would have to stab her in the head.

Orange Josh had a line down the side of his neck where he stopped his fake bake, it looks really stupid, but I laughed when he said something about tweezing another eyebrow.

Why is Laura the announcer all of a sudden? She was directing everyone at Mood, & she announced when it was time for “Garnier hair & makeup!” Tim Gunn does all that on the regular show, why isn’t Joanna Coles doing it? Or at least not Laura?

Please replace Carolyn Murphy. Please. That was a seriously dowdy, fugly dress she wore to the judging. And who exactly were the two Seattle grunge rejects who were guest judges?

Uli’s model looked like a Vulcan, liked Anthony Ryan’s dress & thought he should have won, would have liked Althea’s if she had sewn it better, hated Andrae, Kayne, Laura, Casanova (ugh glitter), Emilio (how did this win?), Suede (model looked like a mermaid from the waist up), Ivy & Josh. Why are the judges bitching because Kayne is good at sewing? Isn’t he supposed to be? Third episode in & I am not impressed by anyone.

Uli’s model looked like a Vulcan,

Hee. When I saw her, I thought Romulan - the TNG variety. The dress with the pointy shoulders is exactly the kind of thing a Romulan would wear - minus the color. (Romulan uniforms were fairly drab in color).

Of course, these judges don't make it clear who is in the top or bottom until they deliberate.

I know! I feel sorry for the bottom 3 because they have no clue based on the comments while they are on the runway.

I also liked seeing a lot of color. The bright yellow and red of Emilio's won me over even if I thought it was too much clothing to wear.

Uli was so absent in this episode that I knew she wasn't in the top or bottom. Romulan/Vulcan indeed!

And I hate that we have to have the designers announcing the times. I guess Joanna is too busy to fill that role, but really don't care to see designers shouting it out.

I didn't care for Anthony Ryan's print or his dress. They talked about his proportions but I thought they were off. The dress was too short. I didn't like the messy black spill at the neckline of his dress and didn't think the lines of grafitti were particularly inspired either.

I am underwhelmed with this season of All Stars. I would like to see the Lumberjacks as permanent judges.

The Gay Lumberjacks really cracked me up, especially since their hair and beards were so elaborately coiffed. They've got to be a couple, right? If so, I guess they're the exception that proves the rule that opposites attract.

I enjoyed all of the color in this episode and was amazed that everybody managed to make actual dresses out of spray painted fabric. I guess they had a choice of two different fabrics (cotton and organza?)but even the organza was still floaty after being sprayed.

Ivy's suit was okay, but her model's slip was showing..sombody should have caught that. :)

I kind of liked Kayne's, even though I'm not a fan of mermaid dresses, as a rule. Was glad Suede went home.

So do we have a Politically Correct term for everything, now? Aerosal artists, my foot!

I missed last week's episode, so was thankful for working electricity.

I was prepared to hate Kayne's, because the entire time they showed him in the workroom it just looked like a clown threw up all over his fabric, but it was surprisingly striking on the runway. I also liked Uli's... it was one of the only ones I would actually wear (maybe with the shoulder horns toned down a bit). I hated Ivy's stupid white handkerchief hem, and hated all of Laura's and Suede's. Emilio's was fantastic. I barely even remember any of the others.

Nice whale tail on Althea...the judges could've at least warned the designers they were going to be getting down and dirty at the "Aerosol Art" thing. All I think about when I think Grafitti nowadays is Jet Set Radio.

The guest judges - Bear Pair. It's so lame that Georgina Chapman always has to be called The Beautiful Georgina Chapman.

Erm, Ivy, the phrase "show don't tell" comes to mind. Scrawling "FIERCE" or "TENACITY" or what have you on clothes will not make anyone feel like a superhero when wearing them. I'd feel like a right fool wearing anything with TENACITY (or any word, really) running just past my boob.

That said, I liked her sketch. The product, no.

Completely agree on sucky host and ridiculous new term for vandals. Although, am I imagining things or do some cities actually designate some buildings as "OK" to spray paint? I seem to recall reading that some city had actually designated certain buildings as legit targets for "taggers" because they were going to be torn down anyway. Maybe I made that up.

If Ivy had done the writing with stencils for the lettering, her suit might not have looked so bad. That probably would have taken longer than the allotted 2 hours, though. I did like her concept, and the fact that she cut the pieces so that the words ran diagonally along each side on the top and then straight across the skirt.

There were definitely design issues with Kayne's but at least it was striking on the runway, far more like wearable art than many of the others, especially Laura's and Althea's.

Andrae's fabric was lovely and delicate, but he killed it with all that crapola knotted at her wait. It looked like he got lost with his design, then ran out of time and just stuck a bunch of stuff on there in desperation.

I also think Suede's idea could have worked, but if you're going to stitch on paiettes, they've got to be perfect flat circles, not poorly cut ones that curl at the edges. His model reminded me of Kate Pierson of the B-52's, which is a good thing.

ETA: There's a big difference between graffiti artists, who spray-paint defined images and words, in carefully planned designs, and are well-versed in a range of spraying techniques, and taggers, who deface property (and sometimes the walls of real graffiti artists) with scrawls.
