I could have sworn we already had a ratings thread, but I have looked all over and now I can’t find it. Anyway, like the title says this is the place to talk about anything ratings or scheduling related.

The initial ratings for the pilot are out and they look okay. 2.8 in the demo and 8.9 million viewers overall.

I was hoping it would get over a 3.0, but 2.8 was good enough to win its timeslot. Plus the ratings are better than either of ABC’s other rookie dramas premiere numbers and only down a bit from Revenge’s premiere in the same time slot last year.

So far so good, but I’m anxious to see how it holds up next week, especially without Modern Family as a lead in.

I'm not too happy with the results, I expected at least above a 3.0 from that big Modern Family lead in. Next week it'll be Suburgatory before Nashville, so I expect a significant drop.

Considering the relatively soft Wednesday time slot and huge buildup this show got, a 2.8 is downright abysmal. Heh'.

"I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love with You)" ratings.

2.0 in the demo 6.75 overall. There is nothing good I can think to say about that. I figured it would drop off .5 or .6, but .8... bleh. Terrible. Pretty much from here on out the show is gonna be fighting for its life every week.

Oh dear, that is a significant drop. Maybe a lot of people DVR'd or watched OnDemand. I personally thought the second episode showed more promise, so here's hoping there's a bit of a rebound next week.

Also, I think most of ABCs new shows are struggling a bit this season (no clue why) so maybe that means the network will have more patience and allow an audience to develop a bit before making any decisions.

It's not a great show, as far as I can tell, but it's got a really good cast and looks like it might be telling some good stories, so here's hoping. I mainly care because I like the cast so much, vs. thinking the show is great stuff, but I think that might also be part of the explanation for the drop. A lot of people may have tuned in because the cast has a lot of appeal, but weren't won over by the premise.

Well, I'm here for the duration. I like Connie Britton a lot and I think Hayden P. did some really good work in the second episode. I hope things improve from a numbers standpoint.

I wonder if this show has a second airing in most markets? That can really help, people casting around for something to watch on a Friday or Saturday night. Jeez, with that I'm officially grasping at straws, but I liked the show enough to tune in for a second week and plan on watching next week too. I hope it lives!

Does watching on Hulu effect the ratings like DVR and OnDemand does? That's how I rewatch the show, after the initial airing.

Last night's episode held steady with another 2.0 in the demo and 6.57 million viewers overall.

At least it didn't drop again. If it can stay right around 2.0 then I would guess it will at least get the back 9.

One of the biggest criticisms of the Nielsen ratings has been that they don't factor in online viewing. I read earlier in the year that the Nielsen ratings were looking at ways to start incorperating online viewing into their numbers, but to the best of my knowledge they haven't actually started factoring them in yet.

ETA: Looks like I was wrong about whether online viewing matters. According to this they do factor in some online viewing in the commercial ratings. It isn't clear to me how much (if any) impact that has on a shows renewal chances, but every little bit helps, I suppose.

It could have been worse. I expected the numbers to be worse, considering that the show had to compete with the World Series last night.

Well, between Halloween and the fact that there are millions of people without power sprinkled throughout the country, that's actually not all that bad. Seriously, if ever there was a week where a lot of people had other stuff to do, this was probably it.

Come on Nashville, recover! I hate it when shows I'm hanging in there with get canceled and I think it's still too early to tell if it's going anywhere interesting yet.

If I'm seeing this correctly, then the ratings for "Move It on Over" were 2.0 for Wed, Nov 7th.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I just read that Nashville got picked up for a FULL season!! This information originated from a website called Deadline Hollywood. The article mentions the 11 % uptick in viewership for last week's episode and that it maintained it's #1 status in its viewing slot thanks to DVR viewership. All good news!! There's a lot of story to play out and I want to see it through and beyond (fingers crossed!) Plus I want that Nashville CD to happen.

Link to TV By the Numbers info about the full season pickup.

Apparently the show actually scores well in the key demographic in households with an over 100k annual income, which means advertising dollars.

Hopefully it will continue to go up in the ratings. It isn't that I love the show, but rather that I think it has some fun elements and I'd like to see them have a chance to iron out story wrinkles to see what they can do.

One thing that demographic info might indicate is more interest in Juliette than in Rayna.

Last night's ratings:

Nashville matched its series low with a 1.8, down 10% from last week's 2.0 adults 18-49 rating and 5.89 million viewers.

I find it interesting how Nashville is the only 10pm show on ABC to actually right on the hour but yet it always has a sizable drop in the last half hour. I could see this show moving to Sundays after Revenge. I don't think the ratings are good enough to keep its slot.

Paul Lee at the TCA Winter Press Tour:

http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2013/01/10/abc-at-tca-we-were-number-one-in-c3-entertainment-this-fall-873215/10152/

"Nashville's" audience will hopefully grow. "It's a big show for us for the younger audience, for the 18-34s," he said. "But there was a sense among 35-49s, [that they] were disappointed. And there may have been a barrier to entry. It may be for that audience, you know, country in itself was more difficult to get into." Lee went on to say their strategy going forward is to use multiple platforms to "promote and sustain, which I think ABC didn't do particularly well in the past, and we actually learned from CBS how to sustain shows.

Unless Red Widow or Zero Hour become surprise breakout hits (doubtful), Nashville will be the one freshman ABC drama renewed, even if it's going to be a pity renewal like V was 3 years ago.

Potes' comment in the recap said what I keep thinking:

In two weeks (And WHY do they skip weeks between episodes so much? Gah.):

WHYYYY do they keep skipping weeks? Especially if numbers aren't great, doesn't it make sense to build some consistency and get the fan base going, rather than have everyone scratching their head whether this week is a new ep, nothing, a recap ep, etc?

This is really the first year in decades that I have watched Primetime TV live. I got hooked on Revenge by watching the whole first season on Netflix. Right now, I've been watching Seasons 1 and 2 of Downton Abbey on Netflix and Hulu. I have found that watching Revenge live that I don't like it so much. I actually like Nashville much more than I like Revenge. But I am sick and fed up with ABC's scheduling.

I think ABC is going to learn that people will watch the shows more on Netflix, I-Tunes, and Hulu and they are not going to have high live ratings. Because they are jerking around the viewers too much with their scheduling foibles.

Apparently airings of March 6th, 13th and 20th will all be repeats but after that the remaining 8 new episodes should air uninterrupted.

Nashville earned a series low 1.6 down two tenths from its last original's 1.8 two weeks ago.

- tvbythenumbers.com

Total viewers: 5.13.

I feel bad, but I just can't stand to watch 90% of the characters. I like Juliette and Deacon (at times), but that's pretty much it.

Actually, I don't feel bad. It is what it is.

Well if they would quit running a new episode and then four reruns it would help. This is precisely why I don't watch much network tv.

It seems they only produced 21 episodes, at least according to The Futon Critic. Wonder why that happened, and whether that affects renewal chances (probably not so much, since all the other new dramas flopped badly on ABC).

I saw one of those lists (TV Guide or something) rating the shows' chances of renewal. They said "Nashville" was a "likely" renewal. I hope they are right!

It will be nice to have the rest of the season come each week! Hopefully it will help their ratings too...

The Futon Critic confirms 21st episode will be the season finale as "show's producers could only deliver said number of installments - one short of the traditional "full season" - in time for its May 22 finale."

Saw another one of those articles and it has Nashville on the bubble. Something like "critical acclaim can't make up for low ratings" and "it's future depends on ABC's new drama pilots"

In other words, cross your fingers everybody and tell all your friends to watch it!

It sounds like if they come up with enough good new pilots, Nashville is out because it is not making them enough money. If the new pilots are not awesome, Nashville is close enough they will keep it going and hope it picks up momentum.

In a way, they have not done well with all these hiatuses. Then after a three week gap, they returned with two particularly weak and slow episodes. The action only started to pick up this last episode.

Yet, if you look at this past week's episode, Teddy only had half a minute of screentime. Meanwhile, they gave a ton of screentime to the Gunnar story. Stupid. I forget the name of the Teddy actor, but he is really good and from what I read in posts a popular actor. To marginalize him so much has been a mistake. They also could have taken the past three episodes and easily have done them in two episodes and move the stories quite a bit faster.

I just looked up the Nashville schedule at TV Guide - and the next two episodes are repeats. Blech!

I don't see how they can expect this show to do well when we have two new episodes followed by two to three reruns. I really, really like this show, but I am getting damn sick of trying to figure out when a new episode comes out. It's like ABC is just deliberately pissing people off with all these breaks so that they can claim low ratings and then cancel the show.
