I didn't see a topic for this show. It premiered last night on BET. TJ Holmes left CNN for this startup executive produced by an ex-Daily Show showrunner.

The format does have tinges of The Daily Show with a comedic news presentation, Colbert-esque commentary called "The Breakdown" (with slow jam music in the background). It was a bit predictable but I'll give them time to nail down what works and what doesn't. Having Hill Harper as a first guest was a smart move. That dude is awesome.
I hope BET sticks with the show. They certainly need something of substance to show.

I haven't seen this show yet, but I will try and catch it. I love TJ Holmes, I have since I saw him on CNN. I enjoyed watching him anchor the "CNN Morning" shows on the weekends. I think that he is very personable, charming and I think that he's good looking/sexy too. It would be nice if this show ended up doing well on BET and they kept it and him around. I'm rooting for him to do well.

I thought it was a good start. TJ's energy seemed to be a little high for me but I can chalk that up to nervous excitement. The pacing was good and the segments will hold up, especially if he adds new ones like "The Daily Show" does. "The Number" is an interesting concept if he can keep it as a wrap up to the theme of the show. I wonder if every show will be themed around one subject?

If he can keep interesting guests coming I think BET will finally have a show that many people won't be embarrassed to say that they watch on purpose. I plan to keep watching.

So after watching few weeks of shows, it needs a little tinkering. Overall, I enjoy this.
The show needs to settle on a group of rotating panelists that they can count on for lively discussion. I hope that will come in upcoming weeks. The issue with the panel is the out-of-place comedian/d-list celebrity/random athlete thrown in the mix.
I'm sure it's to keep the panel from becoming too wonky but often that extra person has nothing to say. For example, TJ essentially had to interview gold medal swimmer Cullen Jones on his own while the other guests debated the topic. Often that extra guest isn't versed enough in the issue to jump in with anything worthwhile to say. I thought the same thing when Sherrod Small was a guest.
I also noticed that the segment that was "This Week in Ratchet" with Issa Rae (creator of "Awkward Black Girl") is now an unnamed bit with her. Glad they dropped that branding.

I just saw the 10/18 episode and I hate saying this but Vivica Fox was a joke. I agree with poster up thread who said that the panel doesn't need a celebrity/comedian/athlete every episode. Only when they are appropriate for the topic.

Please, please, please let them keep Issa Rae!

Vivica Fox was ridiculous on that show. While she may not have agreed with what the conservative lady was saying, that lady still had a right to speak. The woman was right, Vivica was busy making noise and "sassy black neighbor" gestures instead of contributing to the conversation. I like that they have both sides represented.
Not sure how long BET will give this show to grow. I fear that people who might be interested in watching long gave up on BET and wouldn't see promotion for it. I would be one of those people but I also read up on TV inside baseball stuff.
