I have very high hopes for Sarah Bolger playing Aurora/Sleeping Beauty, as I loved her on The Tudors. I think it's kind of funny that they're keeping Prince Philip's name, since on The Tudors, Bolger's Mary had an all-too-brief romance with a duke named Philip.

I'd be okay if she went back to sleep. Her debut as the fretful, jealous girlfriend did not impress me in the slightest.

That said, I'm hoping we'll see there's something more to her character than that in coming episodes. If she ends up becoming The Load I'll be annoyed.

Why is Sarah Bolger putting on an American accent? The mishmash of accents make no sense in this show anyway, but it would make more sense for her to keep her usual accent. It just bugs me.

I visualize Aurora as being blond. I was a bit disappointed since I didn't like her as much as I like most Sleeping Beauty's from books and the Disney movie. She seemed a little too whiny. Hopefully, she will grow on me.

I hope she will get a happy ending with her prince eventually, though. Could the souls in the wraith eventually be freed? That would be nice payoff at the end. It totally sucked that Regina didn't die, but the wraith came through the hat and ended up killing poor innocent Philip.

The only thing she did say that interested me was "You're not the only one who knows about about sacrifice" in response to the question of how she ended up cursed alone at her own future palace. Did she go to Maleficent and make a deal?

I found Aurora to be rather insipid until this line. It's intriguing and makes me think there may be more to her than at first meets the eye. At least, that is what I hope. :)

I too think there's more to Aurora than meets the eye. I'm very interested in finding out the whole story about her and Maleficent (and her mother?). This could be some good stuff.

I didn't think Sarah Bolger did too terrible. She didn't fall flat like JC's Mulan, at least. I mean, it's only the first episode, there's plenty of time to improve. I did think that her grief over losing Philip was genuine; the part where she laid her head on his chest was so sad.

On a shallow note, her dress was gorgeous.

I really hated her. That really wasn't an appropriate time to accuse Mulan of being in love with her fiance and I don't know how she came to that conclusion (whether it's true or not is immaterial as she pulled that out of nowhere). She was just really whiny, too, and doesn't seem worth whatever Phillip and Mulan had to go through to save her.

I didn't really think that the love conclusion came out of nowhere. I saw it immediately. Yeah, she probably shouldn't have said it so suddenly and waited until they were out of danger but it had to be acknowledged sooner or later.

Well, I liked her. But then, I'm a bit biased because I think Sarah Bolger was the best thing about the last couple of seasons of The Tudors.

Mostly, I enjoyed how different Aurora was to Mary Tudor because I initially thought the writers probably had cast her to play a simmilar character, seeing how Sarah didn't fit the age range in OUAT for the princesses. I was glad that I never saw Princess Mary in Princess Aurora and it wasn't just the writing but Sarah played her differently too.

I don't mind that she confronted Mulan about being in love with Phillip, even if it wasn't the best moment for that, because now they can get pass that awkwarness instead of having it hanging over their heads for the rest of the episodes (since I do agree that Mulan seemed to be in love with Phillip).

And it doesn't surprise me that Aurora seems to be very outspoken now, seeing how the sleeping curse was described by Regina, as being trapped inside your body, reliving your regrets over and over. Aurora endured that for more than 28 years, I don't think she'll stay quiet about anything she feels from now on.

Anyway, I think Aurora and Mulan reached an understanding at the end of the episode and I think I'll probably like the dynamic of their interactions in the next ones to come.

I do wonder if Aurora might be a calming influence on Mulan. I'm wondering if Mulan is going to be thinking, "Let's spear these two before they unleash more wraith on us!" and Aurora might be able to calm her into waiting for answers.

Not only might Aurora be a calming presence, she might remember Snow.

I don't know. I mean, Aurora's boyfriend basically used Mulan only to get to her and kiss her, I can tell it was true love because the kiss did wake her up so: Where does this "love" come from?!

Aurora wasn't accusing Mulan and Phillip of having an affair, she was confronting Mulan on her feelings for him. He didn't have to return them for them to be real.

So much for Aurora being a calming influence of...any sort.

So "Maybe it'll help me channel my anger." I do kinda want to see Aurora properly dressed for the forest or being a warrior or whatever.

I love how when Emma hands Aurora her leather jacket, Aurora looks at it and says, "What kind of corset is this?"

Which is weird when you consider that Charming wears one all the time.

I did think she looked kind of adorable when she was being sulky and struggling against Snow after the murder attempt.

Me too. Her outfit is pretty and everything but so impractical. If Snow can have a gorgeous yet practical riding outfit in the Enchanted Forest flashbacks, Aurora can have one too.

It's not like they've actually had time to take care of that. The four of them got back to the camp. We immediately have Emma and Snow's conversation with Cora, which only lasted a few minutes, then their meeting with Cora-as-Lancelot, which was similarly short, then Emma, Snow, and Mulan set off to find the castle. Aurora has to start following them right away or lose the trail. Hopefully she'll get some proper clothes when they return to camp, but there hasn't really been a spot to fit it in yet.

Not to mention the difficult times the Enchanted Lands have fallen into. Refugee camps aren't known for having cloth/seamstresses/a readily available wardrobe. I think they are purposely keeping them in the clothes they had to show there isn't much of a choice and that they have fallen on some serious hard times.

I try to keep in mind that Aurora is supposed to be a 16 year old and that accounts for some of her behavior. She's a young girl!

I disagree. There is no way in hell that actress looks sixteen. Maybe in the Disney movie version or the fairytale she was sixteen but since the stories are clearly playing out differently (I don't remember Mulan aiding Prince Phillip or him getting his soul sucked out by a wraith) there is no reason to think she's supposed to be ridiculously younger than she looks.

Also, the love of her life was at least thirty. Sixteen and thirty? On a Disney show?

I'll not argue the age of Aurora on this show. We don't know what it is and cannot prove it (although I think she looks and acts quite young). We do know that traditionally she is 16 but that may or may not be the case in this series.

If this is a 'Disney show' would they have gone down Adultery road with David & Mary Margaret? The rape and murder of Graham? I realize Disney is the parent company, but it's not a children's 'Disney Show', there are very adult themes addressed.. much more adult than Aurora being 16.

I think Aurora's mother might have been the girl destined to prick her finger at 16. It seems to me this Aurora is a bit older, because she's the daughter, not the original.

We're supposed to believe that this Aurora (and her Prince Phillip) are not the ones from the story? It has been said that Aurora's mother was also 'a sleeping beauty' but it would seem odd that this one (also?) has the Prince named Phillip.

Anyway.. unless we get more info, it's hard to say and I won't argue her age or which sleeping beauty she is. However, when I was a girl of 16 I was OFTEN mistaken for being much older (about 21).

I don't consider them to be but I take very little from the Disney movies. Original Sleeping Beauty had a nameless prince, so whatever. For me, using Phillip for Aurora's prince is just being their nod to the movie, like the chipped cup.

But it seems to me THIS Aurora chose to prick her finger on purpose, sacrificing herself probably for Phillip rather than being the girl destined for it from babyhood.

In the original fairytale, wasn't Briar Rose actually Sleeping Beauty, Aurora her daughter?

Since Emma is supposed to be 28 and there's a twelve year difference between Jennifer Morrison and Sarah Bolger, I'll put Aurora at the 18-20 range of age at least. I don't think she is sixteen but I think she is being portrayed as young by the show. Phillip's age beeing too apart from her doesn't matter, he could have been looking for her for a few years before the curse froze time.

But it seems to me THIS Aurora chose to prick her finger on purpose, sacrificing herself probably for Phillip rather than being the girl destined for it from babyhood.

I agree, I thought that was what they hinted in the first episode of the season.

It would be more interesting that Maleficient had some kind of grudge with Aurora's mother and that's why she chose to go after her than the Disney version of Mal simply being upset about not being invited to the christening of a baby.

It's kinda awesome that Colin O'Donoghue, who is playing Captain Hook, was Sarah Bolger's love interest in the Tudors!

Holy crap, I did not know that! That would explain why there are already Aurora/Hook ships on Tumblr just from that one behind the scenes pic of them together.
