This is a new series starring and co-written by Chris O'Dowd of The IT Crowd. He plays the imaginary friend of a Martin Moone, the youngest boy in a family full of sisters. It take place in Boyle, Ireland, in the 1980s. Steve Coogan appeared in the second episode as "Touchy" Feeley, the over-friendly owner of the local fish factory.
I enjoyed the two episodes that I've seen. Its gentle, imagininative humour reminded me of "A Christmas Story", though I had a little bit of trouble with the Irish slang. ("Shifting" means kissing.)

It's actually in the early 90's (Mary R was elected in November 1990), but damn if it doesn't make me all nostalgic (sighs happily)
I thought it was one of the sweetest sitcoms I've seen in ages and I'm very happy to hear they've started (or will soon be starting) filming a second season.

A very positivereview of Moone Boy from the Guardian website.
Everytime I watch though, I have to go on to Google and look up all the Irish references/county names afterwards. At least I recognized Bono and The Edge. I'm watching it from the wrong side of the Atlantic.

I've been enjoying this too. The kid's sweet without being cloying, and I like that the parents have their own stuff going on. I'm also intrigued by the imaginary friends having their own existence, independent of the kids. Reminds me of Drop Dead Fred.
