First game day of the London Olympics, everybody!

Watching women's soccer, Canada vs. Japan. So far the World Champions show why they are champions. Canada is being creamed 2 - 0 in the first half.

My complaint to the CTV Olympic Consortium, why recycling I Believe? For me that song is forever the theme song to Vancouver 2010.

NBC's online coverage is decent! I'm thrilled to be able to watch my favorite sports LIVE and then be content to find out the other results during the regular, primetime show.

Because no Olympic thread where gymnastics has even a slight chance of being discussed should be without it: "Shut up, Al!"

Just finished watching USA v FRA: fantastic comeback for the USA, down 2 and ended up winning 4-2.

Weren't there a whole bunch of individual Olympic forums last time? A lot of sports had their own thread, as well as my two favorites, the "Ho Yay" and the "Faster, Higher, Hotter" thread.

I was on pins and needles after France went up 2-0, but what a great game that ended up being. Even though they lost, I think France showed that last year was no fluke, and they could go back to the semis. I just hope that the US doesn't have a letdown against Colombia, because they can't afford to let their guard down.

Yes, I remember that too. Hopefully that will be up soon.

Plus we've had our first (I think) controversy -
wrong flag for North Korea

And with those words, the Olympics officially start for me!

I didn't know they let Justin Bieber operate the stadium screen!

Honestly, what a stupid mistake to make, considering the history between the two countries. I don't blame the North Korean team for being insulted. This is similar to when Lady Gaga waved an Irish flag in Belfast.

NBC keeps trying to convince everyone that Al Trautwig is a gymnastics commentator even though he's just utterly awful in a melodramatic way. "Shut up, Al!" is a longstanding hope that his vocal cords will just seize up already. (See the Gymnastics thread for more.)

I watched the USA- France game on my tiny iphone screen and was pleasantly surprised by the picture quality as well as the lack of commentator hoopla. Great game and no play-by-play. I do like to commentators occasionally, but I think I can figure out football on my own. Can't wait for the games to really begin!

Heh. Australia's got the awesome Liz Chetkovich again, so I can only pretend to sympathise while actually pointing and laughing. Then again, we also had the single worst Olympic-themed ad in Beijing.

Actually, our roster of commentators seems really good this year - Chetkovich, Lucinda Green (equestrian), Andrew Gaze (basketball), Rechelle Hawkes (hockey), Kerri Pottharst (beach volleyball), James Tomkins (rowing), Phil Liggett (cycling), Jane Flemming and Daley Thompson (athletics), a specialist local commentator for water polo for the first time.

Unfortunately Dean Pullar's not doing diving, our swimming commentators are Ray Warren and Grant Hackett, and Eddie McGuire's doing two sports - triathlon and marathon - but it seems they've deliberately tried to avoid the whole "this guy's popular, let's have him do something!" vibe Seven had in 2008.

From what I've seen on the news, the weather looks very nice, contrary to (a) what I've been hearing and (b) what I know of London weather.

I watched soccer today and can I just say how boring London's "look of the games" is? I like the colors but it just all seems so plain. Especially after the very vibrant looks of Beijing and Athens.

Al Trautwig is insufferable doing the Ironman commentary. I hope they do not tap him to do triathlon. I doubt they will.

What is NBC's logic/reasoning for not streaming the O.C. live? In Canada, is CTV doing it live?

I'd assume to maximize viewership/ratings in primetime. It is usually the single most popular "event" at the games for TV viewers.

Plus they get to put together a more seamless package for TV.

Not only CTV is going to broadcast live, it will be broadcast live on 8 channels - 2 of them OTA - in 4 languages. Then at primetime they will do it again.

That stinks though. I thought they said every moment was going to be available live online, but I guess that's just competition, not ceremonies. On the other hand, if I started watching the opening ceremonies live at work at 3 or 4pm, it would be really hard to leave work. I would like to be surprised about all the bits of the opening though, so I'll have to go on internet shut down until it's televised.

Is CTV streaming the OC live?

I really hate watching the NBC primetime coverage. It's all tape and produced and packaged. And is Seacrest doing the OC with Lauer and Costas? If so, no no no thank you.

Ugh, I totally agree! I saw him in London waiting to be interviewed on the Today Show this morning, with his smug grin, and was all, Heck No! As if he wasn't overexposed on regular, year-round TV, he has to try and intrude on my Olympics! Bleah.

Yes, they will. However, if you are not physically in Canada, you may not get the streaming through normal means. It will be location-blocked. It is just like I can not watch the NBC stream (or any other full-episode streams from U.S. stations).

It better. I'll be wicked pissed if they decided to skip that this year.

I love Bob Costas, he can absolutely do no wrong in my opinion, but Ryan Seacrest is the complete opposite. Why do networks continue trying to make him happen?

and the "Faster, Higher, Hotter" thread.

I'm ready to stake claim to my first Olympics boyfriend, Kenyan runner David Rudisha.

True, Meredith isn't much better. I still cringe whenever I think of her referring to Kristi Yamaguchi as a "hoochie" because the word rhymes with Yamaguchi. Shut up, Meredith!

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Ryan in the 'kiss and cry' areas because he seems less likely to ask someone who just took silver how it feels to disappoint 300 million Americans by failing to win gold than most of the NBC announcing crew. He's always been good at handling upset people on Idol.
