Beverly Hills Nannies

I watched ep 1 and thought it was good but that Kristin seemed full of herself. Tonight's episode totally made me think that even more and I really don't like her or Lucy. Amber is my favorite. If I were the Manny, I would run from that job as fast as I can. I hope he gets the other one.
What does everyone else think?

I saw 1 episode last night (not sure if this is the premiere episode or what). 2 of the moms, one was named Ari I believe & I forgot what the other was named - she had the 2 dogs - are pissy WITCHES. I can't believe that every single Beverly Hills mom is this vapid, bitchy & arrogant. These gals were more of divas than many of the Housewives (and I watch BH, NJ & OC). I coudln't believe Ari was concerned that the nanny was "upscale" enough & had to have a discussion with her just because she said hello to the dad/husband who was up on the ladder. Honestly, no amount of money would make me put up with a bitch like that. The 2 kids who were picked up from school seemed like nice kids - I spent 4 years nannying myself - I would totally like to watch kids like that - I'd have a lot of fun with them.
I totally will continue watching.

The whole thing with the fiancé was odd, IMO, because he did start the conversation then went out of his way to get Amber in trouble.
My dvr cut out as Amber was on the phone. Did she make it to the wedding to watch the little girl? I couldn't believe that Kristen stood them up and didn't arrange for another nanny to take her place. I suspect that whole thing was staged drama. Otherwise, Kristen was incredibly unprofessional.
Karen, I hope the Manny gets the other job also! That family seemed to appreciate him so much more!

The Manny definitely should quit his job with Marika. I'm pretty sure he got the other one, seeing as how the little girl was crying after he left.

Ari is just wierd and so is Barry. I felt like she was looking for reasons not to like a nanny.
Lucy: I couldn't tell if her wanting 40 dollars an hour was standard nanny wages or not. She made a big deal int he first episode about how the other family got her a car and was taking her on vacation and giving her benefits to Justin but the trial didn't last long at all. Anyone know if 40 an hour is standard for nannies in Beverly Hills? Here the wealthier families pay 15 on average from what I have seen but it's not Beverly Hills.

I think most of the drama is manufactured, so so far my only two observations are about people's looks:
Kristin looks like a long-long sister of Denise Richards to me. Something about the eyes and that fake-sincere expression she always has on her face.
And Carrie Fisher's sister, who interviewed Lucy, didn't really look that much like Heather Dubrow from the OC Housewives (aside from the brown eyes/brown hair/skinny thing), but her voice and speech patterns reminded me of her so much. I liked when she laughed in Lucy's face when Lucy quoted a rate of $40/hour.

Glad I didn't miss much then. I'm sure they'll show the first ep. again at some point & I'll catch it then.Kitty, this was the second episode. Not too much happened in the first except meeting the nannies and families.
He DID. Heck, all she did was say hello to the guy. If he was on his phone, he could have made a motion to her to indicate this (like by holding his phone up/pointing to it, etc.), then he has to run to Ari to complain & Ari acts like it's some enormous big deal & have this huge talk with Amber. What a pair of pissy-ass TOOLS.The whole thing with the fiancé was odd, IMO, because he did start the conversation then went out of his way to get Amber in trouble.
Ah, Marika was that one's name. She was 100% wack-a-doo.

Yeah that was very odd. He was the one hanging over the side, all she said was hello and dude gets all pissy! He's kinda two-faced. I think that if Amber doesn't show up to the wedding, even though he told her on the phone that it was her choice to come or do the interview, he's going to make a huge deal out of it and maybe even act as if the conversation never even happened.
That's the end of the episode. We get to see if she actually made in the next episode, but in the preview for next week, it looks like Ari is holding her daughter while standing at the altar so it seems like Amber chose to do the interview instead, but I could be wrong. My dvr cut out as Amber was on the phone. I could be completely wrong, but she strikes me as someone who didn't grow up that wealthy. I got that impression from the way that she was bragging about all the designer baby clothes. If she was used to wealth, then I don't think it would be a big deal. I think she is enjoying her position of power, and her perceived superiority, over the 'servants' and enjoys seeing how much she can make them do. Ari seems to enjoy that as well. Maybe it's just a Beverly Hills self-entitled attitude, regardless of background.

I really don't like Kristin as portrayed on the show, but I wonder how much of this drama is organic or just being played up for ratings.
Most of the drama is manufactured, of course, but the bitch vibe that I get from Kristin feel authentic. From episode one she was saying "if I like you, you won't be in trouble but if I don't you will be cut". Is this a sorority or a business? Plus, she seemed way too comfortable in episode 1 calling Amber ugly for that bitchiness to be fake.
The mom that Amber works for - I think I saw her on some other reality show where you have sex with you partner for 7 days straight to fix your relationship.

Yes, that's her! She was on Lifetime's 7 Days of Sex.

I really think Ari's fiance was just screwing with her or something, though. He was the one conversing with her.

Glad to hear that about twitter, but I still don't like Kristin, though not as much as I despise Lucy! Am I alone after the explanation?
Loved that scene in The Nanny Diaries! Mrs. X was a psycho too!
It's possible the fiancee was worried Ari would see he & Amber conversing and think that he was into Amber? Even though Amber's supposed to be the 'ugly' one. Whatever. She's the one out of the group, she and the Manny, that I'd like to be friends with. Sorry, I forget his name.
Fuzzybear don't you mean Kristen is a lot full of herself ;)
Can't wait for next episode!

I agree & while I know it's 'Beverly Hills' Nannies, I do hope that we'll get to see some parents who treat their nannies nicer & not like servants. I just don't want to believe that ALL these Beverly Hills rich moms are so bitchy & superior-acting.I could be completely wrong, but she strikes me as someone who didn't grow up that wealthy. I too saw The Nanny Diaries, though it was a really long time ago & my heart bled for that little boy particularly how the dad totally ignored him all the time.
I really like this show. I myself nannied for 4 years (I nannied for 3 kids, a brother & sister, & then another girl). It was during the summers when they were out of school. Just seeing this show brings back great memories of all the fun we had. I loved those children like they were my own. What the kids liked most was that I actually spent time with them & did stuff (like bake cookies, etc.) & I spent time with them explaining things, etc. Their mom could have done that stuff too, but it wasn't in her personality to be like that - she was a somewhat stiff, "formal" person who felt uncomfortable getting down & dirty with her kids & letting her hair down.

I was a nanny for a few months in college. 4 kids. The mom almost died giving birth to number 4 and needed help for the a while. A friend had the job and had to quit so I finished out the school year. Great kids. Great parents. The 3 year old called me "my Mary".
I think the football player's (?) ex-wife seemed decent and they seemed like a nice, fun family.
I'm going to have to find The Nanny Diaries!

I believe it that they all (or at least most) are exactly as portrayed. If you think about it, why does a stay-at-home rich mom get a nanny? It's not like these moms are doing so much community service that they just can't handle raising kids on their own and we haven't seen any moms with health issues or something that would make parenting difficult for them. These BH rich moms get nannies as an accessory and people who pay other people to be their accessories have got to be bitchy and superior-acting. Of course, some of this drama is over the top and dramatized - like the husband who starts a conversation then goes complaining to his wife about the nanny talking to him - but the overall attitude of being evil and feeling superior feels real.

Kristin definitely needs to get over herself, but I have a feeling all of the drama with her best friend and the whole premise of the nanny club is all producer-manufactured. I'm sure they had to make some of these plot lines up because, well, how interesting could a bunch of nannies really be?
I can't read Marika, the mother of the Manny family. Sometimes it seems like she's joking? Like with the foot rub? I want to believe she's joking. I waver between thinking she's awful and thinking she's actually pretty funny. I do think the Manny was being pretty ridiculous with the breast milk stuff...she's breastfeeding, get over it, dude. And he was incredibly unprofessional about the choke collar on the dog. She was right, if he can't follow instructions about the dog how is she to know he'll do what she asks with regard to her kid?
I liked Amber in the first episode, but she kinda grated in the second. She doesn't seem like she has too much experience being around kids. The thing with the dad complaining about her talking to him was outrageous though. Seriously, what the hell?
I think my favorite so far is the blond Ali Larter lookalike from Wisconsin. Probably because she hasn't had enough screentime yet to do anything to offend me! She seems down to earth though, and good with kids.

I agree that Marika is quirky and probably really difficult to work for, but Justin is incredibly unprofessional. He's constantly rolling his eyes at her, mocking what she says and does, and does things his way even when he's told otherwise. I get his point on the chokechain, but it's her dog, not his. She has a totally valid point of if she can't trust him to take care of the dogs the way she instructs, how can she expect him to take care of the baby? eta - By the way, I was a stay at home mom and had a huge stash of frozen milk as well. I used it in everything as we introduced foods, made smoothies with it (for the baby, not for us lol), put it in cereal, jarred food, homemade food, etc. As my kids got older, I pumped less and less, but we used almost all the frozen milk once they started solids and when I would go out for more than an hour or so.
I also really like the one from Wisconsin. I liked that when she was with the vegan family, she knew they needed someone who was far more familiar with a vegan lifestyle than she could give them. She did her best to stay within their rules but knew it would be too much overall.
Lucy is the worst, and that's saying a lot compared to Kristin. "What can I say, I'm hot." No, you're not. The one from Wisconsin, she's hot. My husband walked in the room while I was watching and said "Whoa, I think we need a nanny." lol And regardless of how the wedding thing plays out, both Amber and Kristin are incredibly unprofessional with it, although Kristin overall. If she's supposed to be heading a nanny service, the last thing she should be doing is calling in sick, especially because she drank too much the night before. I don't care if she'd called and said "I'm sending so-and-so in my place," it's still unprofessional, and was obviously done to mess with Amber. And Amber should never have asked for the day off to begin with, it's her employer's wedding. And yeah, the fiance is creepy and totally like the dad in Nanny Diaries.
Also, Kristin has totally psycho eyes.
Oh I forgot one more thing - I want Justin to get the job with the football wife's family because she seems awesome, her kids are adorable, and they seemed like a perfect it.

They did seem like a good fit. Marika's a little nutty but not out of line to want him to be professional about her breast milk and to follow her instructions with the dogs. If he had an objection to the choke collar, he should have asked her about it before taking the dogs on a walk (and I mean well before, not on the way out the door with one dog about to go in the house). I think he's better as the fun but firm supervisor for older kids (assuming he can be firm when necessary), not as a baby nanny.
Kristen is bitchy, even in her post-episode Q&A on ABC Family's website. She says something about how her biggest mistake with the nanny agency (and what a crock of shit that is--as though she came up with that idea on her own, rather than a producer gimmick to create a cohesive group and set up drama) was not making it clear to people that she was in charge. It doesn't seem to me that she's been exactly subtle on that count, however. I think it's horrifying that she and her roommate keep talking about her roommate's drinking.
Ari is nuttier than Marika. That speech therapist seemed awesome and quirky in a good way, but clearly wasn't "glamorous" (i.e., plasticky) enough for her. She strikes me as the type who has a baby (and an assistant, and a nanny) as an accessory. It was gross that she thought it was cute that her daughter is the "center of the house." Not only is it not cute, but it also didn't seem true. The little girl seems like something of an afterthought to Ari and to her father, who is clearly not terribly into what must be family No. 2.

If I was hiring for my hypothetical kids, Amanda or Kristin seem like the best of the crew.
Amber and Lucy may be good with the kids with all that energy and chattiness, but I worry they'd do dumb things (like burn the house down by leaving the oven on - they just seem flaky as hell). I prefer more responsible, buttoned-up caregivers like Amanda and Kristin appear to be. Curious to see Shayla with kids too, haven't seen too much of that.
I think Amanda is naturally stunning and I like that she might be the only girl with a weight over 99 pounds. She will age so much better than Kristin or Lucy (who frankly is not attractive - she's just thin).
At first I thought it was kind of rude for Scott to only prefer to sit for boys, but I'm guessing that a lot of parents would be THRILLED to have an attractive, accented straight male who can physically play a lot with their sons, especially in the case of divorce/workaholic dad/absent father.
I hope we get to see more of Amanda and Scott next episode, they've been very Lucy/Amber/Kristin/Justin-centric so far. I'm not really sure of Shayla's abilities yet either. Did the drunk roommate become a nanny yet? God I hope not.

Agreed. I actually think that a lot of these wealthy moms are like this. That's why they hire nannies. They can't be bothered with the down-and-dirty aspect of parenting (potty training, changing diapers, giving baths, tantrums, etc.) & just glibly pass the child over to the nanny when they don't feel like doing something with the child that isn't "fun".Ari seems more interested in the cutesy part of Emma and not the dirty work of the job
Ari's wedding make up made her look clownish.
I think Kristin looks like Denise Richards. I don't like Denise Richards.
Lucy talks way too much, talks about herself too much, tells far too many long stories, & she's way too hyper, like she's hopped up on methamphetamines, or in a "manic" episode. The mom (the Fisher sister, I forget her first name) I feel has beeen very patient with Lucy, more patient than I would have been. She AND Kristin asked Lucy very nicely to tone it down a little & she absolutely didn't get it. I also couldn't believe she totally acted like a guest at that party & did not spend one second watching those 2 kids. I feel the mom should have told her, You need to go watch the kids.

Unfortunately, I know several people like Lucy who just can't pick up social cues and realize when it's time to stop talking. She'll never change and I wouldn't be able to take her as a nanny. I agree that she has the energy to match a 2-year old but if the mom is hanging out at home with her it would be unbearable.
