I actually did like both of Sonya's routines this week, but definitely the first one more.
Cole was hilarious. Good show overall with only the foxtrot being a bore.

Other than Amelia/Will and the foxtrot, the night was borderline horrid (And that's not just because I prefer solos to a movie that's been plugged enough already). The jive was terrible and Christopher Scott really dropped the ball tonight. I'm glad that Amber garnered enough votes to stay, though.

Shocking to lose Alexa and Daniel so soon. I felt for them, right after hearing Cyrus's 'it was funny how much you sucked' critiques, they got 'that was really hard and you did it perfectly, but we didn't like it anyway.'
I do think the judges critique would have been kinder of they weren't setting them up for a fall.

I haven't liked a Sonya routine this much in a while, but I really like her piece for Will and Amelia. I was particularly impressed with Will, because it was so diametrically different from his usual on-screen personality.
Hated the bathtub - it made the routine look like porn. What a silly prop.
Was it coincidence that the judges saved people who were partnered? Can't be, right?
Seeing the old dancers on stage during the Step Up: Adverdancorial performance was the most exciting part of the show. I just don't have it in my heart to care about any of the new dancers as much as I care about the ones from earlier seasons.

When is the ballroom guy going to get a not ballroom dance?

Ameriker pretty much nailed it. The jidges did aight, too.
I thought the Bollywood number was definitely lacking in energy. I am not sure if it was the choreo, or the performers.
I most thoroughly enjoyed the audience's indifference while Uncle Nigel was promoting himself and National Dance Day. As if the target demo are philatelists! That was the laugh of the night for me. And I have great respect for those who do enjoy stamp collecting.

I don't know either of the guys names that went home. So I don't feel terrible about the actual result. I think they would have had a better show if it was trimmed down to 8 couples at the start. (pre-recorded on the previous Thursday)

Christopher Scott needs to stick to group dances because his duets are terrible. That "Teeth" dance was one of the worst dances I've seen on this show.
Matthew is a total babe and I want him and Amber to be paired up so badly. Amber was a goddess in that tango.
Loved both of Sonya's dances and the bathtub dance was nice as well.
I wish the judges would've kept Janaya and Daniel, but oh well.

The Sean Cheesman routine reminded me of one he did last year on the Canadian show, but when it comes right down to it, there wasn't that much dancing in it - it was very gymnastic. Do they hold broadway to a different standard than jazz?

I thought Amber was great in her dance and like Adam said, her partner did not catch my eye.

So glad Amber was saved, sad about Nick though. I thought their dance was difficult and Amber definitely shone in it, however Nick did partner her well.
Glad Chehon is still around, too bad about Daniel.
I don't think I like this double elimination.

Yeah that was bad, poor Cole

I thought Amelia and Will were remarkable, and didn't think Sonya had that in her. Really, truly beautiful. Gave me goosebumps. And I agreed with the judges that she's really grown as a choreo...and then her next piece I thought was the same old Sonya. Win some, lose some.
That jive was painful, but Eliana sold it as best she could. Cyrus is charming, but like Chbeeb a few years ago, I hope he doesn't overstay his welcome. He's just not versatile enough and he'll bring her down.
Will never understand Bollywood, and didn't think Witney was all that. I think it needs more people and more set than just that stage. It fails to grab me EVERY season.
I thought the Sean Cheezeman routine was really charming, and I was sad to see her get the boot over Witney (whither the H, Witney??)
The group routine at the beginning was pretty cool, and the Step Up routine at the end was FIERCE. So much energy! Kathryn being a sex kitten!
I was prepared for the judges to give Alexa and Aussie a tongue bath (YANNI, FOR GOD'S SAKE), and was pleasantly surprised that they didn't. Or Chris Scott. Juvenile indeed.
I want Dave Scott back. I miss his hip hop.

I'm sorry to lose Daniel and Alexa, and I'm not sure why. I guess I hate that the script for her was so preordained, and I thought he was an interesting performer to watch and wanted to see more.
Cyrus is adorable, but I suppose he's next on the block. I did really like that no matter how much he was struggling with the steps, he never left Eliana hanging. He was there for her.

Cyrus, pick better numbers dammit! But from the four he named, jive DID seem the safest choice for him.
I liked both Daniel and Chehon so that's a bummer. Witney and Chehon have no chemistry.
Amber gets to dance with Brandon next week. Looking forward to that.
Hey, camer guy - when Chehon is standing perfectly still, that doesn't mean take the camera off of him. I wanted to see that move all the way through.

Total agreement. I thought it became a routine about the prop, rather than being about the dance, the dancers or a story. And, though I had no particular fondness for either Alexa or Daniel and am not particularly sorry to see them gone, I did feel really badly for them that they got saddled with such cumbersome prop/set piece-heavy routines in their first two weeks. I don't think they ever had a chance.

Sonya had the routines of the night, by far. So far, Amelia and Will have the strongest chemistry of the couples too.
Christopher Scott created two really bad routines this week. I liked the idea of Darien and Janelle's routine, but I hated how literal it was. I agree that Janelle didn't sell it as well as he did.
I was waiting for Cole to get into a Stuart impression. I really wanted it so badly. Lindsay was just bad in that hip hop routine.
What to say about Alexa and Daniel? They got hosed with a crap choreography last week, but I wonder how much of the lack of connection came from such boring music. I also think Daniel tried really hard to connect, and it's just no dice with Alexa.

For the future - I hope Amber's attitude improves - I found her very off putting tonight. I want Cyrus to be at risk because he's not really improving (unlike Chehon), and I'd think I'd like to see Eliana with a different partner, because maybe then I would see some of this "specialness" that people keep talking about.
Love Lindsay and Cole, wasn't wowed by Janelle and Dariean as much this week, but we'll see. Not much of a fan of Matthew but he danced well tonight.
And I'm super pissed that I can't vote because I live in Canada.

It really doesn't help that they look like the Bobbsey twins. I did think they were great dancers and I loved the quality of their movement, but there was just no chemistry there and frankly, I'm not surprised after that shit choreography and wardrobing last week.
I think the judges made the right choice with the women (and I am not a Witney fan on the whole) but I would actually have traded Chehon to save Alexa too.

I lost 98% of my interest in Cole when he wouldn't get out of character during judging. He was committed to the moron schtick and it got on my last nerve. Him--too much character. Her--not enough. And they were so good last week!

Most energy in the room was during the Step up performance. Amazing what Jamal Sims can do when he wants to.

Alexa just seems so incredibly uptight to me. I feel for her, because i think she should've lasted longer than Ryan, who she lost out to (and I think is a better dance than), but her partnership with Daniel just didn't work. Not sure why, but definitely frosty.

Love the short practice clips.
Cole is AMAZING. Seriously good character. I really enjoyed this dance. Nothing spectacular, but it was fun & danced well.
I am really digging the Amelia/Will partnership (which is nice b/c he was essentially a non-entity prior to the performance shows). I think they are a really organic couple & they created some beautiful shapes during it. I really enjoyed the dance, espcially with the music that Sonya paired it with. I actually think Amelia is something of a chameleon when it comes to dancing.
Ballroom boy with ballroom 2x in a row! Nice to see some new choreographers too. Nick's suit looked slightly too big to me & was a bit distracting but otherwise a servicable tango. I think he is a really good partner for non-ballroom girls... Amber has some rocking legs (/shallow note-I really wish she would change her hair color/) Thank you Mary for actually highlighting some techincal stuff. Having said that, I still think that these 2 might be filler.
Audrey & Matt . Meh, it might just be me, but it left me a bit cold & I really think it was just the choreography. It didn't seem like anything new from Sonya to me...I feel like I have seen it from her before. They danced it really well but I just don't get the love that the judges heaped on this one.
Janell & Darien-Loved the styling, loved the music, liked the dancing-I feel like it should have been smoother. They had it in parts, but at other times it wasn't there. Hate the story & can we please stop with the kissing?
Brandon & Janaya - Oh, Hey Bench! Loved this!!!! So much detail in this. They both really gave in this-I had my eyes on the screen the entire time & that is one of the best compliments I can give to a dance. I was paying attention the whole time. (also, Cat- craycray! Hilarious. So much love for her!)
Cyrus & Eliana- First I love Melanie & Tony (and they did not look happy after the dance, but slightly better when Nigel was talking about it)!!! Eliana's legs are sick! And she is amazing! Having said that, this needed to be faster. I agree with everything Mary said...he needs work, but he partnered really well. I still love him to pieces (& freely admit that I would vote for him over some more technical dancers that personally leave me cold...if I voted.)
Daniel & Alexa- Case and point. I recognize the technicallity of this & both the dancers. It still left me cold. I just don't connect to them. I'm not sure why. And all I could think about was mermaids. The tub was so distracting to me. (Adam is saying exactly what I feel!)
Tiffany & George- Felt a little like a high school prom to me, Improved when it was out of hold. And George, despite the few flaws in footwork (which apperantely only I saw?)-man this kid was born to dance. It was a lovely dance, but still a little immature to me...maybe that was my issue with it.
Chehon & Whit -She looked stunning & he reminded me of Aladdin( I realize that is potentially offensive). Umm, it is always fun to watch but hard to judge. I agree he was much better in this than last week & it was nice to see him enjoy himself. Again, I think should be saved for later in the season.
The bottom 3 Revel: That was rough. It sounds like there is a possibility of dancing for your life if they don't agree. In theory I like the idea of the choreographers have a say, we'll how it actually works out in practice.
I kinda wish Janaya was the one who got saved mainly due to tonights performances, but I can deal with Witney. Bummed the boys didn't get to say a quick goodbye. I'm pretty ok with them leaving...I never really connected with Daniel. I will miss Nick.
P.S. Love how excited Cat was to see all the alums

I thought that Amelia and Will were wonderful, and I loved everything about that routine. The music was so intense and engaging that I was literally sitting at the edge of my couch throughout the entire number. They did a beautiful job, and I'm really glad that Will was able to break away from the goofy persona, because he showed real skill and musicality tonight. Amelia probably has the most gorgeous skin I've ever seen o.0 Does she have pores? It's absolutely flawless.
I loved the foxtrot and thought that George really channeled the charm and eloquence that Gene Kelly and all of the "old school" stars had when dancing. He was dapper and "masculine" (sorry, I hate to say that but Nigel and co. are so fond of describing ballroom in this way), and I actually didn't mind his partner either (forget her name), despite her being a complete nonentity for me thus far.
Amber and Nick were ok, but she definitely out-danced him. I know it sounds shallow to say, but I was kind of thrown off by them physically. Amber is very muscular and toned, which is kind of contrary to the Anya body-type that I associate with Tango, and Nick is very small in frame (his shoulders are narrow and he looks very young) when compared with a Dmitry or Pasha. I know it's a silly critique, but it really bugged me. I cannot see Amber without seeing a hybrid of ANTM's Furonda and Natina Reed from Blaque. I think she's stunning.
Natina Reed
The fabulous Furonda
Is it just me?
Janelle and Darien(?) were awful and a waste of everyone's time. Choreo really let them down.
Cole and Lindsay were cute, but again, the choreo sucked. Chris Scott really didn't do a good job of showcasing, you know, actual DANCING. A lof of both routines consisted of just both dancers prancing on the stage and being coy. Not cute or entertaining, just annoying because I want to see these people DANCE. I could get up on stage and twirl my skirt and wink, and skip. These guys are capable of much more. Please let them have a chance to prove it! Ugh. And holy crap, please get Cole a sweat rag.
Audrey and Matt= meh.
Cyrus and Eliana= She really can do no wrong for me. I don't have a ton of training, just basics, but from what I could tell she did a great job for a non ballroom dancer. And she really sold the shit out of that routine. Don't even get me started on Cyrus. I'm sick to death of this show blowing praise up a hip-hoppers ass just because he "tried something new". Ok, Mary, so now we're praising him because he didn't give up? SO the fact that he simply finished the routine is now an accomplishment worthy of applause? And you think that we'd rather see an awkward jive by someone "who tries hard" than by someone who actually know what they're doing? Ugh. DO not want.
Loved seeing Twitch, don't care about Kathryn ( I always found her to be fairly wooden not not movie star material), Philip, "hi to you too".
And to think that several years ago I used to actually like Adam *shudder.
