Talk about Amber here and feel free to suggest a clever subtitle for this thread.

The fourth time is not the charm (Just ask Ashley from S5 or Alexie). I like her, but if she's in the bottom next week, she's gone.

Yeah, I agree. She's a beautiful girl and a beautiful dancer, but I think the show hasn't exactly been kind to her.

I finally figured out what I don't like about her hair (dyed/bleached hair generally doesn't bother me), it's because it makes her look so much older. She's only 21 and I think the hair ages her in an unflattering way. The cut and color together is just too severe even for her very youthful and super feminine features.

I agree with both of the comments in this thread. If Amber is in that bottom 3 girls, she's toast. If it were just one girl leaving next week she would probably have a fighting chance, but not with two, IMO. Nigel just seems to have some aversion to Amber. I think if her personality were bigger and attention seeking it would help her in votes, but she's pretty low key and seems camera shy. It doesn't help that she's partnered with this season's whipping boy Nick. Is it coincidental that these two are partnered together? I think not!

I would have liked to have seen her partnered with George. Amber is a very beautiful Contemporary dancer and I think her and George would have been a mini power couple that would have gained momentum throughout the competition. I like Nick, but I don't think either is doing the other any favors being paired together. I thought their VW was danced beautifully by them together, but doing a VW was never meant to make them stand out the first week. I hope they knock their dance next week out of the park to show that they both did deserve to be there. Although, with this new format and the judges already knowing the vote counts I doubt they'll be given anything spectacular to dance. Watch they give them WHACKING or some lackluster Tyce routine that always lands his couples in the bottom.

I also hope Amber hangs around but I do believe that she was cast as fodder and given a fodder partner. Next week they need to knock it out of the park or else it's bye bye. I would also suggest getting rid of the blonde.

I agree that she should get rid of the blonde, but like the concept of her having an electrifying hair color. So maybe another fun color like red perhaps.

Since it was mentioned by bluvelvet in the Nick thread that Nick needs to pull a Benji, I can kinda see where they were going with the Amber/Nick partnership. Gorgeous black woman with a keeping-it-real attitude and an adorkable ballroom guy that wears his heart on his sleeve. Very reminiscent of Donyelle and Benji. Should be interesting to see how their partnership shakes down if they indeed survive.

I don't think Amber's partnership with Nick was cast to recreate Benji/Donyelle, mainly because I don't think Amber was cast to stick around for too long. She is just another one of the contemporary girls and the only way she will save herself is by not being in bottom 3. Nick pulling a Benji is him winning over the audience in spite of being fodder.

Benji was an alternate after a guy failed the psych test or something—he says so in the Podcast being discussed in his thread—and Nigel partnered him with Donyelle to do a hip-hop in week one, thinking that the two wouldn't resonate with audiences at all.

It's something interesting to think about, though. It's been made manifest that there is nothing arbitrary about these pairings, so maybe Nigel and co. think they could resonate with the audiences in a Benjelle way. The counterpoint, however, is making Amber look bad by showing her footage saying "I'm not coming back" and Nigel calling her out on it, and then Jason yelling at Nick during the VW footage, thus making them unappealing as can be.

I've just been looking over the contestant info on the Official web site and I've been impressed with Amber's answers to the questions about previous contestants/seasons.

Dream dance partner? --- Danny Tidwell

Choreographer look forward to working with? --- Mia Michaels

Dance most inspired by? --- Allison Holker

I think that shows she's got good taste - because she agrees with my opinion of course. ;-)
But, seriously, I found people's answers affected my opinion about them. I don't know what that makes me, but it's how I feel.

Amber has changed her hairstyle. I don't know if it's just for her upcoming dance or if she really is going for a different look. Either way I love this color on her a lot better. Ambers new DO!

Lovely! She looks like an ANTM contestant rather than SYTYCD contestant there!

As I recall, they typically do makeovers for the contestants around the top 18 mark. I only notice this because that's when Katee got her bangs, which I thought really brought out her nice bone structure. Can't wait to see if the others got a makeover as well.

I'm happy to eat my words; looks like she may be staying around longer than expected (Which is good, because I thought she was the best girl tonight, and I also think Eliana, Janelle and Lindsay are gonna be the bottom girls next week, so that betters her chance of staying longer).

OwlsGo, I'm glad I was wrong as well. Amber rocked that Tango. She danced like she thought that would be her last chance on that stage. That's the impression I got from her and Janaya's performances tonight. That was a technically difficult routine and she pulled it off. Ballroom twice in a row, so she better have something else next week. I don't want to see her Miranda-ered like last season. She's a brilliant Contemporary dancer, so she better get it. I kind of got the feeling she was safe after the tongue bath she got in critiques from the judges. Although it was deserved. I guess they got the picture that the viewing audience doesn't view her as fodder like they cast her to be.

I'm wondering if they'll pair her up with Brandon next week and go against this shows seemingly aversion to pairing two black dancers together. I don't know what the deal is with that. I think she'll look great with Brandon. She would also look great with Chehon and I would die to see those 2 together in a Mia Michael's or Sonya piece.

Poor Nick. I knew he was a goner, but I felt bad for him. He shouldn't feel too bad though. Last season saw a 10 specialist champ in ballroom (Iveta) eliminated first and now she's with DWTSLV. He's in good company. This format just wasn't for him. I thought he did great partnering Amber though.

My husband and I agreed, with her hair and make up last night, Amber looked just like Princess Tiana. Beautiful.

Why did they knock off Amber after she and Brandon set the stage on fire? >:P

So bummed that she was sent off tonight. She really set the stage on fire tonight. It was a sultry performance. Loved seeing a dancer that had true strength. She danced like a woman! Loved her partnership with Brandon too! Not happy about this at all!

Damn this show. Amber was so talented and the show let that go to waste with their early shenanigans. Here's hoping she's on to bigger and better things.

I said it in the performance thread and I'll say it again. Amber didn't have a chance once she was in that bottom 3. I think she was cast as fodder and one of the expendable girls along with Janaya and Tiffany. Amber showed the most versatility in the cast and I think if she would have gotten H/H as the next dance that would have sealed it. Noe of the girls left could have danced that routine tonight with the maturity and depth that she did.

I'm also po'ed that Nigel and Co. saw fit to always put her in the early forgettable hour of the show. That routine should have been one of the last ones, just as that AT should have been last week as well. She threw everything but the kitchen sink in that solo because I think she already knew she was leaving. You could see it in her face. No way was Eliana going home nor one of Nigel's pets (Lindsay) that hasn't shown much f anything to warrant her staying. But, we're supposed to believe that after Lindsay's horrible performance last week that she was above having to do a solo over Eliana and Amber? You have to be really naive not to smell the shenanigans on that one.

I felt real bad for Amber because she just looked defeated and over it. It's got to hurt being such a great dancer and proving it each week to only be eliminated because you're not one of the chosen ones. This reminds me of Miranda and Missy being eliminated early on last season while other mediocre girls were saved as well.

Amber AND Brandon. What an incredible slap in the face of original talent (and beauty, both of them.)

Sigh. Back to prancy contempo dross.

It really does feel like Amber was cast for fodder purposes. And I feel she, too, was storyboarded - like I feel Alexa was. I hope the brief exposure helps her on her way inspite of Nigel and Co.s treatment of her.

anothermi, I agree with your suggestion for Amber's thread title. I hope her experience on this show satisfies her intention in auditioning in the first place.

A brief DancePlug interview with Brandon and Amber after the elim. show. She's headed for NYC, interested in Broadway, commercial dance, etc. Good luck to her there!

I had no concept of how tiny she is! Her gorgeous legs go on forever and give the impression of more height, I guess.

Dance Plug--Amber

If I had decided, Lindsay would have gone home and Amber would have stayed. I lament the beautiful routines we very likely would have seen from Amber.

Oh, I most definitely have sent the boring Lindsay home or at least made her dance before either Amber or Eliana.
