Loved how thrilled she was that she had a partner that could so easily lift her. They may not be well-matched in ability but she and Cyrus may just do well together through sheer gun-ho attitudes. Here's hoping they get a better genre/choreographer next week. She's so talented and she just beams on stage.

For a thread title, what about "Setting the Barre" since Nigel mentioned that she's the gold standard for the girls this season. I tend to agree, although I'd like to see her do a Latin ballroom routine first.

Exactly what I was thinking! She's had that same sloping beehive hairdo in every routine so far, even in the Chris Scott group routine. Even is they do put her hair up, it seems like they would vary it a little.

Can someone please get this girl a better partner?! It must be hard carrying herself and Glitch. Cyrus is great at what he does, but I think they're dumbing down choreography for both of them and she is compensating with her fantastic energy and personality.

So I went back to her audition tape and rewatched her featured dances/spots on SYTYCD. I think I understand where my coolness is coming from. She has beautiful legs and footwork, but I find there is a lack of emotional expression with her. She sort of reminds me of a doll - she has great physical expression, but her facial expressions don't mirror the choreography. So when she remembers to express with her face, its like its painted on.

I disagree with that. I think she's extremely expressive. I love her, but some people find her over the top. I think she's really feeling it.

Eliana is star material in my opinion. She's wowed me since her audition and I haven't been disappointed in her yet.

I put a suggestion in the So You Think You're Witty thread suggesting a title or two for her, but they made reference to the pole back-story and that seems so dead in the water at this point. After seeing her profile on youtube and thinking about her ballet outfits, here's another stab at a title.

I really hate that Cyrus is holding her back. Had she been with other males, her Broadway and Jive would've been 20 times better and better praised. Her Jive was great, I just wish she had a partner capable of holding their own with her.

I'm of two minds about the Eliana & Cyrus pairing. On the one hand, yeah, it's limiting what she can do right now in terms of difficulty--the choreographers have been careful, I think, in giving her harder stuff but not to such a degree that it's really obvious her moves are harder as well as better executed. But on the other hand, for female contemporary-ish dancers, it seems to matter very much what the personality is of the pre-top 10 partner, more than the dancing ability. Also, she's getting all kinds of producer perks for being paired with him--like spots near the end of the show despite the rather dubious quality of their work so far. (I'll also note that the last woman standing every year with set pairings in the pre-top ten was paired with some kind of hip-hop dancer except for Donyelle and Melanie, and I don't know that anyone this season will have the kind of fanbase those two had.)

I'm really sad she was in the bottom this week. I still love her, but I don't think Cyrus is helping her, neither with the dancing nor with the bird-killing story. Didn't he have anything nicer to talk about?

I hope she stays as well. My power of positive thinking attitude was that Uncle Nigel had her do a solo so that the audience will remember her dancing her best after a two week break. He was actually helping her out.

I like Cyrus too, but I worry that she will have to sacrifice her own skills in order to better partner him. They maybe OK with something like Russian Folk Dance (snerk) but I tremble at the thought of the Waltz.

As someone says in the comments below this video, the interviewer slightly loses control of things in the middle. Chehon's excuse is extreme hunger.
I can't wait to see them dance together. Hope it isn't whacking.

Eliana apparently was struck with a bug this weekend and was eating a lot of chicken noodle soup. However, she seems to be okay now.

Here is this week's interview with Chehon and Eliana. They chalk it up to fatigue related delirium, but they are quite funny together.

CONGRATULATIONS ELIANA!! The results tonight were really very surprising to me, but I could not be happier. She was a favorite from the gate. Loved seeing her Bam Bam piece with Alex again, and I think I remember her also being very strong in the final Lion King dance. How wonderful was the moment at the very end when she and Chehon were united on stage? Well deserved indeed, Eliana!
