Bath Crashers

I love this show. I want most of the bathrooms that Matt does, they are so beautiful. I especially love when he puts in giant showers. Whenever I own a house, that is the kind of shower I want. And, Matt is really gorgeous, so I consider it a bonus...lol!

And some things are just so WTF. Water features? A coffee machine? In the bedroom maybe, but in the bathroom? Just yuck.

I agree with you. Food and drinks should not be in the bathroom. When they put those kinds of things in the bathroom, it always grosses me out.

Agree about some of the over-the-top gadgets in those bathroom MOs, especially (eww!) the coffeemakers. How's about putting those in the bedroom wall just outside the bathroom, so you can hook into the waterline if you need to, but you aren't making food and beverages in the bathroom.
Even if I wouldn't want to live with or take care of some of the fancier baths they've done, I can generally see what they're going for and often admire it as something to look at or visit, but not live with.
But I still remember one bathroom crash which I thought was badly thought out. The family had something like six kids - seriously, there were a LOT of people using the ONE bathroom in the house. But instead of trying to create a separate space for the toilet - they just kept it slapped down in the bathroom although their big concession to all those people in the house was IIRC a multi-sink setup at a lonng vanity.
But what if somebody needed to use the john? Doesn't that mean pretty much everybody else has to get out? (Or maybe at least the opposite-gender siblings?) Not to go too far here into personal privacy issues, but I think it would have hugely improved the efficiency and usability of the bathroom if they could have figured out a way to separate the toilet from the rest of the bathroom. I think they had the space, but they didn't even address the issue of why they couldn't configure it differently.
I mean, maybe there was a half-bath (aka powder room) elsewhere in the house, but it sure didn't sound like there was, and we never saw one, and I remember them saying this was the "only bathroom." The only redeeming thing about this episode would be, if there really were another toilet somewhere in the house and we just weren't told. When you have that many people in a house, don't underestimate how handy it can be to have a powder room!

Bungalow Joy, ITA with you regarding the mass destruction. It really bothers me and sometimes takes me completely out. There is so much they could be donating. I wish they'd get back to that and realize the "crazy demo" isn't the most important thing.

Because what's the one thing you need in the room that's full of hard surfaces and is the scene of more accidental head injuries than any other part of the house? Booze!
Also, what's Matt's obsession with coloured light in the tub or shower? And flat screen TVs? How much time are these people spending in their bathrooms?

This episode was shown today, and I tracked down this thread to say the same thing.
The thing is, that bathroom was a good size, and surely they could have made two smaller bathrooms somehow.
It seemed cruel to put in all that effort, and that tub that would make people linger in the bath, and still leave them with just one proverbial pot to piss in.

I've watched a lot of these shows, and at first it was pretty cool to see. But now it almost reminds me of that show with Ty Pennington...(can't remember the name right now) but there is a need to update/upgrade some of these awful bathrooms, but do they need to get something so over the top and with so many gagets that will most likely break down eventually? Sheesh I even saw a couple shows where there was a remote control....for the shower...! WTF?
On a much more shallow note, Matt is kinda' cute with a very charming way about him....

But, yes, Matt's still cute and is one of the more watchable hosts.

I saw the one with the minister yesterday, and there seemed to be a little TV screen built into the mirror on his medicine cabinet.
Another one had a TV rising out of the toilet tank. Straddle?

That's got to be bad when you go to resell, or so I've heard.
It just seems like a lot of things that could go wrong when you're one of the first people with a new product.
What happens if one of those dial-what-you-need toilets goes wrong? Will it still flush?

On some of the bath crash shows, they take away bedroom space, or even an entire small room.
That's got to be bad when you go to resell, or so I've heard.
I've watched hours of the "crash" shows and unless the owners are planning to sell in the next couple of years, they will have a hard time getting their list price. These rooms are so taste specific and (worse) TRENDY, they will get the "this is a complete gut job" reaction or worse send buyers out the door, list prices plummeting and then the poor listing agent calling me ( I own a staging business) in a panic because the seller is exasperated and wants to fire him/her...
Remember, it's just TV, folks...

For example, if they've lost bedroom(s) or closets, then the sales price should be adjusted accordingly. In fact, IMHO, if the homeowners plan to sell anytime soon, they shouldn't participate, period. At minimum, they definitely can't give these faux-reality programs carte blanche to install whatever strange material they're promoting that particular week.
I'm sure you provide a valuable service, queenofsnark. Your realtor clients probably had their hands tied by sellers holding out for unrealistic list prices based either on their purchase price plus cost of improvements (and not net of appropriate depreciation) or their cash needs for a move-up home - instead of the home's fmv.
However, that's only MHO.

*note I live in a one bathroom house and this effects the appraisal. My neighbor with a smaller home appraises higher because he has two baths instead my one. And this is despite the fact that I have a larger lot and square footage. Number of rooms and baths matter

Have only seen this program a couple of times On Demand, tinalou09 so don't have an opinion on Matt, yet. Haven't ever seen BATHtastic. (Our package doesn't include DIY.) What's the difference between the two programs?

Hey gazerguy, BATHtastic is a show where home owners ask for Matt's help with improvements and ideas for the bath they want to change. He goes step by step on the eco friendliness, the cost and the function. The designs were simple but great. It was a show about what the average homeowner would want and most importantly afford.
