Since daytime soaps are going the way of the dodo bird, I believe that it is good a time as any to ask:

If your soap were to end tomorrow, how would you like the finale to play out?

For those who've already lost their soap, how do you wish that its finale had played out?

I'll begin with All My Children. As much as I loved seeing a lot of needlessly killed off/absent characters return for the finale, I wished that:

JR would've gotten a hopeful ending instead of becoming the town pariah that they'd written him to be. Hopeful didn't necessarily have to be happy, but at least the man would've had someone in his corner instead of writing him off, shunning him, or pitying him.

Greenlee would've left that dud that she was chained to and gone off to find her true love, Leo. I don't care if she crossed over to Heaven to do it because the end result would've been so much satisfying than the treacly shit that they tried to sell me with Ryan/Greenlee.

Oooh!!! I'll play....

Now, of course I hope that General Hospital will be around for quite awhile to come, but, if it were to end tomorrow, this is what I'd love to see:

Todd, his new girlfriend Sam, his friend Spinelli, and Sam's brother, McBain, are in Todd's office, looking at the front page of the Sun: "Mob Boss Sonny Corinthos and Enforcer Jason Morgan Die in Toxic Hair Product Spill at the Port Charles Dock."

Johnny and his girlfriend, Liz, are having hot sex on the bar at the Haunted Star. He left his mob life behind him, and is now a record producer and club owner, having bought out Lulu Spencer, who is now Heather's assistant at the Sun.

Todd opens to the inside page, where he reads about Kate Howard's miraculous comeback. Kate still knows her fashion, but her latest alter has completely taken over, and is providing constant fodder for the gossip column. Kate's alter, name of Patsy Stone, has a British accent and can drink anyone under the table. Kate/Patsy and her new BFF, Diane Miller, enjoy hitting the bars after work and laughing about the "good old days" with Sonny.

Michael and Starr have joined Kristina and Trey's new production company, and have a new show, where they go to places like the Amazon, in search of exotic reptiles. Kristina moonlights at Crimson whenever Kate/Patsy is off drinking and snorting.

Heh. This was fun! Thanks. :)

GL. I know I posted this somewhere else, but I always thought they needed to make one modification to the finale. Blake is sitting on a bench by herself, waiting for her online penpal (Frank, though she doesn't know it) to show up. As she's waiting a man taps her on the shoulder and she turns around. All we see is her stunned face as she says, "ROSS?" After that, I don't care what else happened.

GH: Robert comes home and decks Luke for sending him on that wild goose chase that made him miss his daughter's funeral. After that (and after Anna yells at him some), Robert says, "However, I heard about the work of one Dr. David Hayward and I remembered that my beloved was once married to him. After a little persuasion, I met his newest patient, who is alive and well." Enter Robin.

There is so much about the Guiding Light ending I'd change (and even the things I'd leave fundamentally intact I'd have taken the time to develop, e.g. Holly and Ed), so I'll just go with one thing: Instead of at some random baseball game, it would have ended at a Bauer barbecue.

I would have just liked to have some real closure with AMC instead of the lameass cliffhanger we got. yearoftheroostr's, finale would have been good. Oh, and Dixie would have stayed dead dammit and it would have been Tad and Cara. I really wanted to see Erica all alone and miserable, having alienated Jack and all her family and friends. If Brooke hadn't gone off with Adam, it would have been my dream for her to go off with Jack, but Opal or even Krystle would have been okay because I have always frickin' hated Erica Kane, since she was a selfish teenager, the world's tiniest supermodel or the oldest living Vegas showgirl. I would, however, let Erica and Ryass ride off together into the sunset because I do not want either of those two darkening my TV screen ever again. Not Susan Lucci and Cameron Mathison, Erica and Ryan.

B&B: A giant meteor descends upon Bell A and takes out everybody. Just about all of them are too stupid to live. The ones that have a quarter of a brain never appear onscreen, so maybe they'll luck out and have teleported to Europe or something.

Y&R: The giant meteor's twin descends upon Genoa City and KILLS THEM ALL. Because they all deserve it.

Can you tell that I hate these shows? Sometimes I feel like cancellation would be a blessing.

I really wish they would release the alternate finale that was filmed. I here it's the one that the actors liked better than the one we actually got to see. What have they got to loose at this point by showing it. We already know the show isn't coming back.

Another World I would have had Vicky wake up from a four year dream to find Ryan(alive and well) in bed with her. Then I'd show Paulina realizing that Joe was a total idiot and going back to Jake. Donna never cheated on Matt, John never slept with Felicia, Frankie didn't get killed, Carl and Rachel lived happily and Rachel didn't get pregnant at a ridiculously old age. Grant realized he was a loser and begged forgiveness.(I was thinking of having him hit by a bus, but I suppose he could live). And we end with Vicky finding out that she is pregnant with RYAN'S baby. Either that or we find out that Kirkland was actually his.

Gosh, now how would I end Days of our Lives? Well, first Andrew kidnaps Rafe to prevent him from finding Melanie. Everyone in Salem realizes how much happier they are without the Hernandez family, and vote to ban both him and Gabi from town. Without anyone from the Salem PD screwing around it doesn't take long for agent Spencer to figure out that Ian killed Stefano in order to be the big bad in town. Ian is arrested before he can kill Victor, but all of Brady's shirts are destroyed.

The Bradys come to the conclusion that Sami is always going to be selfish and short sighted, and stop letting it bother them. Lucas and Sami get married and as their wedding gift all remaining storylines are cancelled. The on screen reason is because they're not about Sami, but really it's because I don't care who Nicole ends up with, or if Carrie is happy with Austin.

Jai Rodriguez returns with the rest of the Queer Eye guys to force Chad to get a haircut. And HBO takes pity on all of us gay content viewers by creating a Desperate Houswives like show starring all the underutilized daytime TV gays. The first episode is Sonny and Will having sex completely naked, which proves once and for all that Freddie Smith is NOT fat now.

I didn't watch All My Children or One Live to Live (except the Kish sex episode, which was awesome), but from what I understand both shows should have ended with Brian Frons being horse whipped.

I think only some of the scenes were filmed. The others were scrapped when the Prospect Park deal happened. Even though I understand why they scrapped the future scenes it was still stupid to add a dumb cliffhanger for a move to the internet that had never been done before on that scale. If they had the same ending without the cliffhangers it would have been a decent finale and they still would have been able to tell new stories in the unlikely event that the internet show actually ended up happening.

Maybe that's what they can replace The Chew and The Revolution with, it would be even cheaper to produce and the fans would never get tired of watching it.

After McBain arrives at her apartment to inform her that he is willing to be a family along with Liam, Natalie realizes that although she been waiting to hear those words from him for months, she feels absolutely blissful and joyful...after finding out that Mitch Laurence hadn't killed her husband, Jared Banks, after all. After she informs McBain that their ship has sailed and she will spend the rest of her life taking advantage of the second chance at love with Jared that she has been blessed with, Jared emerges from her bedroom and embraces her while being equally grateful that he was given a second chance to be with the love of his life.

McBain, realizing that Jared is better for Natalie than he could ever be, accepts Natalie's decision and wishes them the best of luck in life. After making plans to spend time with his son the following weekend, he decides that he needs a change of scenery and heads out towards his next destination - Port Charles.

Finale Episode: Behind the Hospital

Feed all the EPs and Execs from the last decade truth serum and have them tell us whether the destruction of ABC soaps was an organized campaign to get out of soaps with minimal fan fallout (as conspiracy theories postulate) or mass incompetence. They need to answer some questions like... Why were the Q's killed off? Why was Laura made a serial killer? What is your fascination with Sonny and Jason?

This is an awesome thread! I thought so much about what I would have done differently when the various soaps ended, especially AMC since I watched it my whole life.

AMC:

No cliffhanger, period. After his downward spiral, JR could have wound up in Oak Haven; he and Annie could have helped each other heal and a few months later, wound up back in PV, sharing custody of their kids with Marissa and Ryan respectively. Leo would have been revealed to be the last person David kept alive and Greenlee would have dumped Ryan on his butt and jumped into Leo's arms. Leo and David would have had some really nice scenes together and bonded once again as brothers, with David finally feeling worthy of love again because of his brother. David would have worked out a custody agreement with Cara and then jumped on a plane out of PV to find his true love, Anna. Cara would have met a cute new doctor at the hospital, played by the adorable Justin Hartley (I know he and Lindsay are getting divorced now but they were still together at the time) and would have seemed to have been poised for a happy future. Brooke/Adam, Jesse/Angie and Tad/Dixie endings would have stayed the same, as would have Scott/Madison, Brot/Natalia, and Zach/Kendall. Stuart and Marian would actually have gotten to go to Stuart's Homecoming party and Stuart would have shared sentimental scenes with various Pine Valleyites. Jake/Amanda would have taken in an abused child to adopt (reminiscent of Joe & Ruth taking in Tad)and it would have been revealed that Janet never killed Trevor - he was held prisoner in Ireland after going deep undercover years earlier, which is what led Janet to her mental breakdown (she dug up a skeleton and put Trevor's tie on it because she missed him so much). He returns and the Dillon family would have happily reunited. Ryan would have left Emma with Annie after getting an anonymous note from Budapest hinting that his beloved Gillian could still be alive. Jack and Erica would have wound up together after loads of groveling from her, and had another lavish wedding with Reggie and Lily returning to attend. Several other old faces would have returned for the last few days including Tara and Jeff Martin, Charlie and Cecily Brent, Angie's mother Pat and Jesse's Aunt Nancy, Hayley & Mateo, and Tom & Livia Cudahy, to take part in the family festivities.

ATWT:
I know many people had issues with their finale but as a viewer who didn't watch regularly (followed Jake McKinnon over after AW ended), my major issue was Katie winding up with Chris Hughes. As a huge Simon/Katie fan, it made me upset that just several months earlier Simon had been on-screen forging a major bond with Katie and her son only to not have him return for the finale. I don't believe for a second that Katie would have wound up with Chris (who was a bore no matter how much I adore Daniel Cosgrove) when the love of her life was out there alive and waiting for her.

AW:
Ryan would have been found to be alive and wound up with Vicky. Jake would have emotionally stepped aside and been comforted by Paulina, leaving it open to interpretation that there would be hope for them together.

The City:
Would have been revealed to be a dream of Curtis Alden in the mental hospital and the victims of the Corinth Killer would still be alive (as would Casey Bowman).

GL:
I agree that Ross's return was necessary; I also would have had Josh stay in town with his son and grandson, and would have found it more believable if Reva was the one to travel for a year. I also would have wanted the end to take place at a Bauer BBQ, even Josh & Reva reuniting.

OLTL:
Kevin, Joey, Cord and Tina would have been present for the finale, with Clint and Viki, as would have Dorian, Kelly, Cassie, and Adrianna with Blair/Mannings. Kevin & Cassie would have been revealed as together again. Natalie would have discovered Jared is still alive and reunited with him rather than John (who absolutely could have taken off to PC). Jessica would have realized that she never truly loved Ford and went to Brody (who was revealed to be Ryder's dad through the paternity test) to ask to be a family again, and they would have wound up together.

OLTL... I was convinced that the show would end with a Viki/Clint wedding with the entire cast and the Buch children there. Todd, on the run from the police would have watched through a window and made eye contact with Blair who nodded her approval of him leaving until she could find evidence of his innocence. The CLiki vows would have included statements about how much they have gone through as a couple and the whole community went through aThere'd be a big party at Llanfair where things get tied up while at the same time showing life will go on (Brody would ask to hold Ryder, Matt/Des/baby would arrive with Des telling Nora where she's going to school, etc), during hte celebration, there'd be a montage showing the happenings as well as flashbacks, then Todd would hole himself in an abandoned shack where he finds to his surprise VJ and he gets hit over the head. Back to Llanfair where Blair is looking longingly out the window and Starr puts her arm around her. Starr says, "He'll be alright. He promised to come back for us." John overhears this and chooses to ignore it. The final shot is Viki and Clint. Clint says "Are you ready to start our new life? Together?" Viki says, "If I can only have one life to live, I'm so glad it's been with you."

My biggest issue was Tomargo switching residences with Chris/Katie. It's not like Chris was some poor guy on welfare. He was a doctor! Seems like he could get his own place. And Tom, bless his heart, I love him but he really let Margo carry his balls around in her purse. He should have put his foot down about giving up their house. Maybe if it had been a year, like on GL, but it wasn't. Margo was already traumatized (more than she should have been, IMHO) by Casey moving out, they shouldn't have moved, too. Give it a little time and then think about maybe downsizing.

Since I spend way too much time trying to think of ways to undo the damage without resorting to an entirely Dallas, it was all a dream, scenario.

This is how I'd end General Hospital

There is a dinner party in an undisclosed location. Many long gone vets {Sean, Tiffany, Lucy, Kevin, Bobbie, etc.} are in attendance drinking, laughing, and plotting the downfall of a common enemy. Robert overhears a conversation between Lucky Spencer and his cousin Sly about how his Dad is involved with another of Robert's ex-wives. Robert rushes off. Laura asks Luke why Robert left in such a hurry and Luke responds "He's going to kill Bill." Fade to black.

This is my theory and I'm sticking to it. One of those times Luke left town, Bill came back instead (and from the dead). It explains everything. Bill must have pretended to be Luke and slept with Holly all those years ago and that is how "Luke" became Ethan's father. It explains why Luke doesn't care too much about his kids. It explains why his hair went from curly back to staight. It explains why he seems to think he and Anna go way back when she came to town after Luke left and "died" before he came back.

I watched regularly and the part that pissed me off the most was indeed the lame ass Katie/Chris ending. Chris getting Reed's heart was bad enough, but the fact that I'm supposed to buy Katie was madly in love with that tool is just too much. That SL should have ended with Katie opening the door and seeing Simon standing there, leaving us all with the absolute knowledge that she was about to reunite with the love of her life. Katie and Simon were possible my favorite couple ever on soaps.

I wouldn't have had that SL in the final episode, though. IMO, the ATWT finale should have just been one solid hour of various incarnations of Janet's horrible death. Janet dies by fire, Janet is hit with baseball bats, Janet is run over by a train... She ruined the show, so at the very least I deserved some payoff for all the months and months I had to endure her. I -um- didn't like Janet...

I didn't watch ATWT, I don't know who Janet is, but reading your ending Katie Rose, I think I came up with the perfect final ending for GH. It's a whole storyline where Sonny starts having dreams about his death. Everyday starts with another way that he dies. Michel hits him with a bat (like he did Claudia), Carly shoots him in the head while he's giving birth (it's a dream, remember), Dante shoots him point blank in the chest, etc. Weeks of this followed by him talking to shrink, asking if his meds are doing this to him. The shrink double talks and we don't see the face. Eventually, it's revealed that Sonny's been missing for a few weeks.

The mobbies are looking for him. The non-mobbies continue with their lives. Robert comes back to punch out Luke and invite Anna to mai tais on the beach. Robin has escaped Faison's clutches again and gets a HEA with Patrick, Emma and a new child that they are going to have, Todd and Blair settle their current round of differences and go back to Llanview.

In Sonny's final scenes, we learn that Deke wasn't as dead as we were led to believe. Deke's been holding him, in a closet to make him think about what he's done to everyone in his life. We learn that the counsellor he's been talking to has been Deke, on the other side of the door. Deke finally says that Sonny has learned his lesson and walks away. Sonny comes out of the closet and has a bunch of cops waiting for him. He draws a gun and we hear shots fired. And in Port Charels, people are celebrating the returns of several beloved characters who also weren't as dead as previously believed.

Okay, maybe not the perfect ending, but I really like the idea of starting 2-3 weeks of episodes with different ways that Sonny could die and in the end, letting him die alone while the town celebrates.
