I am starting this thread for anyone who wishes to post any potential spoilers, if that's ok?
There was suggestions made that 'sorority girl' also appears in the season finale

According to Sorkin
"Will travels a thousand miles from the season opener to the season finale,"

"He even runs into the sorority girl he berates in the opening minutes of the series and gives her a very different answer to the question she first asked ['Why is America is the greatest country in the world?']."

Will be interesting to see what happens in last episode in terms of this exchange as it was certainly a controversial part of the pilot. While the question was ridiculous his answer involved addressing her directly and yelling at a 20 year old college student

Thanks for starting a spoiler thread. A few things, though:

1. Where did you read this? If it was an article, you need to provide a link. Also, if it's according to Sorkin, it isn't a spoiler. Officially released information in the media is media, not a spoiler.

2. Please don't make thread titles all caps.

3. Don't use spoiler tags in the spoiler thread.

Thanks.

Thanks for the notes TWoP Mars

Yes I read it in an interview- http://www.digitalsp...til-finale.html

I realise that in the circumstances it's not considered a spoiler on this forum

Some fun minor spoilers in this Q&A with Sorkin:

http://connect.hbo.com/events/the-newsroom/aaron-sorkin-newsroom/

Such as:

the first season of The Newsroom is a 10 hour story broken into 3 acts.

I knew why Will and MacKenzie broke up (which you'll learn about this Sunday) and why it's so hard for Will to get over it (which you'll start learning about in a few weeks.)

And, this, which may cause some apprehension...

One of the nice things about HBO is that whole season is written and shot before the first episode airs. This removes any temptation to change your writing in order to change the minds of your critics.

From spoilertv

Episode 1.07 - 5/1
An anonymous source provides advanced details on an important story; the staff cuts its anniversary party short.

Episode 1.08 - The Blackout Part I: Tragedy Porn
Will and Mac abandon principles when ratings plummet; Sloan is irked by her lack of screen time; Charlie discovers a whistleblower's identity.

Episode 1.09 - The Blackout Part II: Mock Debate
The staff stages a mock debate; Mac has an epiphany; Lisa goes off-script during an interview; Neal goes under cover.

Episode 1.10 - The Greater Fool
Nina surprises Mac; Sloan considers a job offer; Neal smokes out a threat; Will, Mac and Charlie face off against Leona and Reese.

5/1 is Bin Laden, Blackout might be about the September blackout and how it was thought to possibly be a terror attack, not sure what the mock debate refers to, and I'm not sure what kind of economic story the last one refers to. Possibly robosigning?

I'm up in the middle of the night, watching the local news coverage of the shooting at the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises, and wondering how this will all, inevitably, play out in Season 2.

I saw a midnight show, came home, went online to read the reactions/reviews, and saw things unfold on reddit long before it was on CNN or any other mainstream media station. So much happened that it would take multiple Newsroom episodes to address it seriously, because there were so many ethical issues at play, so much misinformation, so much sensationalism, and so much wrongheaded use of opinions over facts.

But unless Sorkin gets his act together, the Newsroom episode will probably be about Will and Mackenzie arguing over which one of them is Batman and which one is his donkey. And I will break my television in anger.

Edited for tone and clarity. I also want to add that after seeing this tragedy unfold in real time, I am pretty disgusted by the last 15 minutes of 1.4/I'll Try to Fix You. The mention of the six fatalities is drowned out under Coldplay, and the jubilation from the staff about their tiny victory is just so... small, ridiculous, I just don't have the words.

My first reaction was Sorkin is probably going to have someone not familiar with Batman and be all condescending about comics and it's fans and whatnot, while someone else (best bet, Neal), will probably be dumping useless information about the movies, comics, etc, while everyone is all "Shut up, you geek!" about it.

In real life, ABC News tried to tie the shooter to the Tea Party, and had to backtrack an hour later. (Although if you asked me, Brian Ross really should be fired.) But given Will's hatred of the Tea Party, there's no chance that he would (gasp) make a mistake like that, is there?

Full summaries for the rest of the episodes of the season. I can't believe Lisa is going to be on air. I also groaned out loud when I saw the preview for the insomnia/therapist part. Aaron Sorkin. You are too smart to keep stealing from yourself. You have a problem. Kleptosorkinomania. Seek help.

SUNDAY, JULY 29TH
“Bullies”
A lingering bout with insomnia drives Will (Jeff Daniels) to keep a long-standing therapy appointment. Subbing for Elliot (David Harbour) during the Japanese nuclear crisis, Sloan’s (Olivia Munn) strident interrogation of a Tokyo power-company spokesperson ends up jeopardizing her own career. After his rough handling of an interview subject, Will comes to recognize the causes and effects of being a bully.
Other HBO playdates: July 29 (midnight), 30 (8:00 p.m.) and 31 (11:00 p.m.), and Aug. 2 (10:00 p.m.) and 3 (8:00 p.m.)

“News Night” refuses to lead with a pair of sensational stories, which causes ratings toplummet – and forces Will (Jeff Daniels) and Mac (Emily Mortimer) to abandon their principles in order to lure viewers back and shore up the network’s bid to land a Republican debate. When news breaks that the President will be making a televised speech that night,

I can't believe the preview tried so hard to keep secret just what the big announcement was. Even if we didn't know from the episode title that it was May 1st then we knew the previous episode was mid-April and this is the most important news event from around that time. No one's going to be surprised by plot twists if the twists involve talking about news events that actually happened a year ago.

Lisa goes off-script during an interview;

Lisa? Lisa starts working there? She should be banned from the building after that stunt she pulled on Valentine's Day. I hope she and Jim broke up over it but I kind of doubt it. And since she works in fashion, how exactly is she going to be able to contribute to News Night? That's her area of expertise and that sounds like the kind of thing MacKenzie would turn her nose up at. Unless she owns the place and has a business perspective, I guess, but then why is she implied to be an idiot (but not really shown) all the time?

Neal goes undercover as an internet troll.

Neal has the best undefined job ever.

Yeah. I would never have thought that he was the son of a blue collar immigrant to the UK and doesn't have a university degree. I actually thought he was the kid of someone high up at the UK offices and was given the job due to "connections." Or maybe a trust fund kid of some sort.

Surely this is not going to be part of a storyline about how awful the Internet is, right?

It better not be. If Neal is going to be a troll then he has no room to point fingers about the internet since he's making it worse.

From episode 1.9's preview:

Mackenzie: "Does anyone know anyone know anyone who knows Casey Anthony?"
Maggie raises hand.

I need to find a good image of Nancy Kerrigan screaming, "WHYYYYY?!?!!!" Because that is how I feel about this show sometimes.

While speaking to Hypable about her new film Promised Land, DeWitt let slip a few new details about the character she will be playing in The Newsroom season 2. Just don’t tell Aaron Sorkin!

“There’s a big drama going on in the Newsroom that I’m involved in.” When asked if this drama would involve romantic scenes with star Jeff Daniels, DeWitt responded, “I’m crushing him [Daniels]. The company is coming under seige, so I’m there to try to dig them out of the ditch. Am I saying too much?”
