Just a couple of quick comments:

I understand that it probably wouldn't be considered fair to lump Nicki in with the male artists but come on! What in the world has Trina and Diamond(?!) been doing? Maybe they should have let Kreyshawn in for this one. Also, I feel like Kanye and Jay-z's suspicious group is just a way to allow them to be nominated since they didn't qualify as solo artists. Probably in hopes that they bother to show up to this thing. I have never seen that album or their concert together marketed as a group called "The Throne". The mere fact that they have to clarify who "The Throne" is admits to the fact that it is a ploy.

I am probably going to tape this and fast forward through the general fuckery in order to see Kanye's new group(not this The Throne mess), and Whitney's tribute. I don't know how I feel about Sam Jackson hosting but the little commercial he did for it performing a little of "Beez in da Trap" was the funniest thing a host has done since the '07 BET Awards hosted by Will and Jada (my favorite one to date).

I've never heard of about 75% of the music people and I don't like rap/hip-hop so that probably eliminates about 90% of the fun for me. I'll just tune in to see how Sam opens (not a big fan but I'm curious about his sense of humor) and to ogle Idris Elba.

Uhh yea. What the heck? Wouldn't they be considered best "collaboration" or something.

I didn't even know Mary J or Beyonce put out music this last year. And I have no idea who Marsha Ambroisha is.

How can Beyonce and Kanye BOTH be nominated twice in the same category.

Honestly I'm only watching this mess because of Samuel L. Jackson, the Whitney tribute, AND I want to see if anything is going to pop off between Chris Brown and Drake and/or their camps.

Ok if you have to bleep out the verse sooo long that I actually thought something was wrong with my tv, then maybe you should try to change some of the lyrics.

Well Kim Kardashian got her face on tv pretty damn fast.

Christ on a cracker, Kanye West is fucking depressing. Is he always like that?

Dude is pretty intense isn't he. Yesh. Dropping the mic and all. Lol.

No kidding. And they are really bad at it too, Nicki Minaj was on, and I've got news for them: when she manages to get out "Mother Fuc.." before the bleep chimes in, you can't really un ring that bell.

Wow, so many people who have passed to do tributes to. I've already seen tributes to Donna Summer, Nick Ashford, and the DJs--Don Cornelius, Dick Clark, and I'm sorry I forgot the name of the third person. Plus Whitney's tribute is coming up. I'm sure I forgot somebody.

I hate that Kim Kardashian is front row at the BET Awards. Like, she'll be all up in the front row at the NAACP Image Awards after this. UGH. Those are the two events where folks are supposed to focus on black folks with talent, not the random skanks who bang them. Have several seats, ma'am. Yes, I'm 'hating.' lol

And during that Donna Summer tribute, it took me a second to recognize Chante Moore with that new Jackson-esque nose. Her body looks so fantastic, though, and she can still hit those notes. Wish she were more popular.

Just the latest example of how soulless 'Black' Entertainment Television has become over time, IMO. Seeing Donnie Simpson - a symbol of when BET was worth tuning into regularly - up on that stage just drove that point home to me.

I actually made a joke with a friend that we should do that drinking game thing where everytime they show Kim's face we'd do shots. We'd be black out drink by now.
Did they really have to put Jay and dem in the front row. I laughed when Wale bumped into Jay and spilled his drink.

Nice seeing D'Angelo back....but that giggly gut has got to go.

Sooooo... D'Angelo basically sang one verse of a song he hates to perform and then had a ridiculously long band practice/jam session with no singing and just James Brown style screaming. No sir. That won't work. I felt like everyone was trying to like it, but didn't really know what to do.

One another note, Beyonce looks tipsy. And I hate her sister's Patra braids.

Well, Kanye is banging her without a gun held to his head, so that's makes him as bad as she is. Skanky is as skanky does.

I thought D'Angelo never would let go of that damn song. Jamie Foxx looked like he wanted to go up on stage and end it for him.

That group of young boys (never seen 'em before) that presented with Mike Epps: I'm sure that one kid wasn't aware that he had on what looked like a Confederate cap.

Kevin Hart is so cute. I'm getting tired of him though.

Nicki Minaj is downright scary looking.

So I guess the front row of Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kanye, Kim, and Nicki are supposed to represent some kind of music "royalty"? If so, that's so sad.

The Kevin Hart segments are the only things keeping me going. Seeing Anthony Henderson and Faizon Love fainting over a light sabor was hilarious. The highlight of the night to me was Yolanda Adams last comment about using your gift the right way.

What did that little boy Ray Ray say about Lauren Hill to Mike Epps? I couldn't understand him.

Each award show I watch I tell myself that I am either getting too old for these or the performers/presenters are wack...I think its the second option.

I don't understand how Nicki Minaj is as popular as she is. Who are her fans? 14 yr old girls? Who is buying and supporting her music? It's terrible and her whole steez is a gimmick.

When did Faith leave the mariachi band?

I think he made some crack about Lauryn Hill's tax problems. Boy need to sit his ass down.

One of the things I do appreciate about BET is that they do celebrate the older generation of artists and showcase their songs. I'd never heard of Maze and Frankie Beverly but Im sure I know a song or two and just didn't know who it was (as is usually the case with older songs for me). That song Joe sang during the tribute was good. So ill be hitting YouTube up in a little bit to check out more songs from them.

Is white the "in" color tonight or what?

PS. Angela Bassett can still get it. She putting some of these chicks half her age to shame.

For much of BET's faults, they're usually on point with the tributes and recognition of the older generation, like you said. Michael Jackson tribute notwithstanding.

Next year, don't forget to tune in to the BET/Kardashian awards.

ETA: Holy shit, Mariah Carey is doing the Whitney Houston tribute. Yes Mariah, thank you for making that all about you. She was a budding young singer the first time she heard Whitney? Bitch please, you all are close to the same age. And the tears? Blurg.

I think this might be the best BET Awards in awhile. Just like MTV had it's best award show in awhile after Michael Jackson died...I just wish legends didn't have to die so they can keep up the quality.

*sniff* Indeed, and that folks, is how you take it to church. From the heart, not lipsynched, and not bleeped out. God bless her, I know that took everything she had to do that. That was amazing.

Chaka Kahn looks so much better in that dress than she did when she wore the sausage casing on American Idol. Just gorgeous.

I know, right? Good for them. I was wondering though what the "I" in LGBTI means. They keep adding so many damn letters not even I can keep up, and I'm a lesbian!

The Whitney tribute was really nice. Monica did her thing. I kind of like how she and Whitney both had this squeaky clean image but they both had/have a bit of hood in them. Brandy was also good. Didn't care for the outfit, but she sounded great. I appreciated Cissy coming out to honor her daughter, but truth be told I cringed during some of it. Fortunately it really wasn't hitting the right notes and all that. I'm just glad she and Whitney's brother got through their respective performances. And Miss Chaka Khan was great too.

This really was one of the best awards shows I've seen in a long time. Not since Monique hosted (the first time) have I really enjoyed a show. Then again I have skipped a few inbetween.

THIS! I really wanted to be moved more than I was, but I couldn't be because her voice just wasn't up to par. It's the same way I felt when Frankie Beverly came out to sing. The soul is there, but the voice isn't, and unfortunately that just makes me not feel it. I respect her for doing it, though, because I'm sure it took all that she had.

What was up with Faith Evans and her mouth as she sang? I thought for a moment she was having a stroke and one side of her mouth was going paralyzed. She moved one side of her mouth to the side a couple of times.
