A New ABC Family Original Comedy
Baby Daddy, is a half-hour series about Ben (Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Kyle XY) who, in his 20s, becomes a surprise dad to a baby girl when she's left on his doorstep by an ex-girlfriend. Ben decides to raise the baby with the help of his mother Bonnie (Melissa Peterman), his brother Danny (Derek Theler), his best buddy Tucker (Tahj Mowry) and his close female friend, Riley (Chelsea Kane), who is harboring a secret crush on him.

Boo. I mainly wanted to gripe that this looks like Disney-fied rip-off of Raising Hope.

Premiering tonight.

Yeah, when I saw the ad I thought "I'm not even that keen on watching Raising Hope anymore, and that has Martha Plimpton, Garrett Dillahunt, and Cloris Leachman to its credit."

From the million or so ads I've seen for this during Pretty Little Liars and Bunheads, it looks like crap.

Wasn't bad but wasn't all that great either. I kind of got tired of the audience going "Awwwwwwwwwwww" every time someone picked up the baby, it was almost like their was an "Awwww" sign prompting them instead of an "applause" sign.

I have to say, Jean Luc Bilodeau grew up to be one fine looking young man, how old is he now? (OK just looked, 22 according to imdb.com) His voice still sounds like he's in puberty though. And he is apparently never going to get any taller. I had to laugh at his bartender tricks; they were good but he was doing them so slow you could tell he had just learned them.

The only thing I've ever seen Chelsea Kane in was Dancing with the Stars and - oh my, she is not a good actress, at all. I don't think she's ever going to graduate to anything beyond a Disney channel show.

Luc never going to get taller, what about poor Tahj Mowery, he is almost the same size as he was on the Smart Guy

It wasn't as horrible as I suspected, at least it wasn't 30 minutes of poop jokes. The cast doesn't much appeal to me other than the little Asian? guy. (not familiar with any of them). At least it has potential to be something other than "guy pals plot to get laid and fail" week after week. Yah, we got eyes, we can see the baby is adorable - knock it off with the "awwwwwwwwws".

Oh thanks - not familiar with him but is he by chance related to those pretty twin girls who were on some show? I think their name was Mowry or Mobry or something. He's very funny.

Mowry. And, yes, he's the younger brother of Tia and Tamera.

After being bombarded with ads on TV and HelloGiggles (Zooey Deschanel's website)--and the fact that I'm a sucker for a cute baby--I watched. It was very "meh." I'll give it a few more episodes.

I didn't hate it. I have like Melissa Peterman since her days on Reba so I hope we will get to see a fair amount of her. I kind of like that Riley has a secret crush on Ben, but I seriously hope they aren't going to go with the brother having a secret crush on Riley. That's one too many crushes and especially with it being brothers.

The baby is adorable and I have to admit, I kind of loved it when Ben got her to eat finally. I knew it would happen obviously (no show if he doesn't fall in love with his daughter), but I was still "awww-ing" when he was so thrilled she took the bottle. Oh, and I seriously laughed out loud when they were all plastered to the door when Ben was looking out the peephole. They just looked so ridiculous it burst out of me.

I liked it well enough. It looks like a better fit with Melissa and Joey than the Raven show was last year. I like the cast and thought they meshed well together. No, Chelsea Kane's not a great actress (I don't believe her for a second as a law student!), but I just watched her all season on One Tree Hill and was expecting that. It's nice to see Tahj Mowery working again. He and his sisters seem like very well adjusted former child stars. Jean-Luc was one of my favorite things about Kyle XY. The only one I'm not familiar with on here is the older brother.

I thought Jean Luc had a major growth spurt on Kyle XY. Now I wonder if Matt Dallas is a shrimp too. Actually, according to the IMDb site, the brother on this show is 6'5". He would dwarf everyone even if they were averaged sized.

I'm so glad you posted this. I didn't think I knew any of these people but some looked vaguely familiar. So Chelsea Kane is the bitchy diner owner from OTH (hated her on that) and the daddy guy is the brother from Kyle (loved him). And is the mother Barbara Jean from Reba?

Agreed it's a nice partner for Melissa - just an hour of mindless fun for summer, both with attractive casts and silly plots.

Yes, that is Melissa Peterman. The brother is the only one that I did not know before hand.

Man is he tall. I also checked IMDB, Luc is listed at 5'10, so Tahj is probably around the same size, it does probably make blocking fun.

I quite enjoyed "Baby Daddy," and found it sweet, not cloying. [From the commercials (and the youthful appearance of the actors), I thought it was about a high school student who discovers he's a father. I'm glad they're in their 20s at least.]

I thought the leads were all likable and had good chemistry; the brothers and the Riley did seem like they all grew up together. (I thought the "ethnic best friend" was Asian, too.) I loved the scene with Riley, Tucker, and Danny in the hallway -- they all wanted to help but had to let Ben do it alone even he was going to start growing up, and it was so nice bonding there too.

Danny could have been played for just a dumb jock, but they gave him some depth.

It makes me a little sad that Melissa Peterman is playing a grandmother (considering her own son, Riley, is just 7 years old), because I'm older than she is.

I think they're going the Danny hearts Riley hearts Ben triangle route.

I also checked IMDB, Luc is listed at 5'10, so Tahj is probably around the same size, it does probably make blocking fun.

Actually, Tahj is listed as 5'6". If Luc is 5'10", then those must be "AOL inches."

While I agree this is probably a better companion to "Melissa and Joey," I liked "State of Georgia" too.

I liked it. Thought it was very cute. Ben is really hot and I liked that they showed that he did want and care for Emma, but was scared he would not be a good dad. I really like Riley, Danny and the friend and their scenes and affection for Ben and Emma. I think Riley is cute. I hope they actually go with Danny/Riley and give us more Ben/Emma. The scenes with Daddy and daughter where adorable and she is so cute.

Typical sitcom stuff last night, but enjoyable. I wanted someone...anyone...to point out to Ben that Emma was his responsibility so he needed to forget the date.

Hate this show. There is nothing funny about some loser who won't take care of his kid. Your brother and your friends are not free babysitters. Douchebag.

I laughed at the bit with Tucker, Danny and the mirror. They really are an odd pairing on screen together.

I never watched Chelsea on her Disney show, but I think I might be ok with her doing comedy. She's much more tolerable as a goof than a vixen.

What bothers me about this show is how unspecific the characters are. They have no discernable traits beyond their occupation. I think the actors are game enough, but they need to play people that have some personality beyond their relationship to the baby.

I like Ben's mother, she's probably the best character on the show for my money. I still think Chelsea Kane's character is unnecessary. She really doesn't add anything to the mix, she seems to be standing off on the sidelines with her unrequited love for Ben.

The problem is this episode really highlighted how not ready for fatherhood Ben is. He just found out he fathered a child and decided to keep her and at the same time he's pawning his kid off on his friends to he can go out on a date with the hot girl he's been eyeballing. Hasn't really learned much has he?

I'll live with that for now since it's only 2 episodes in and they've been setting up the baby scenario and introducing people. But I'm unsure why the brother and friend are tolerating being ordered to keep someone else's baby while he works and dates. I'd think most young guys would have just moved out rather than have an infant cramping their lifestyle but it's a sitcom, so guess not. I'm waiting for the mother to show up someday demanding he let the baby be adopted or some drama like that. I like the mother also, she's sarcastic and bossy but very loving. Truly, this isn't as bad as I expected it to be. The only character I don't much care for is the brother.

Strangely, I find the brother to be the one I like best, as he seems to me to be the least cartoonish of all the characters. The actress who plays the mother is very good a broad comedy, and even on the old "Reba", she could make not funny lines a little funnier.

I hope we don't get too much of a love triangle, but I find the brother and the law school girl far cuter together than her with the lead.

I agree that the brother/Chelsea Kane have better chemistry thus far than with the lead.

By and large, I think Chelsea Kane and the mom have fared better because their characters have been fleshed out the most. It doesn't take much but a struggle to get into law school and resentment toward an ex-husband go a lot further than mishandling a baby.

I still think the show would work better without Chelsea Kane's character. I think it's enough that they have the whole "3 Men and a Baby" formula with three young guys trying to live their lives, meet women, etc. while having to care for this baby. They don't need the distraction of Riley crushing on Ben while Danny is crushing on her. The triangle is a cliche - how long can they keep this up? It's also an unnecessary distraction from the story, she really isn't adding anything to it. The longer Ben goes being completely blind to her love for him the dumber he comes off. And I'm sorry but Chelsea Kane has kind of a Muppet face.

I think the problem is Ben, and I remember liking the actor on Kyle XY. But there's just a black hole where the main character should be. The triangle plotline is problematic because it's just a weird decision to begin with - for good or ill, a will they/won't they main couple is a staple so why is the triangle necessary?

Also, I think Riley is the insane one for having a crush on Ben rather than Danny, but that could just be my preferences.

My big problem is that the other guys are "required" to take care of the baby which irritates the hell outta me. I think in that movie there was a chance any of the 3 men could be the dad so they shared the responsibility but on this show ... - it's not as if the other two begged Ben to keep her and promised to help.

I don't like the Chelsea girl either - I find her kind of unattractive and pathetic. I'd probably be fine with her if she was the smart girl and a friend to them, not the point of a stupid triangle. Halfway agreed on Ben - he was natural comic relief at times on Kyle - here it seems as if he's trying too hard or something. And again, I guess I resent him because he seems so entitled and spoiled, expecting everyone to babysit so he can do whatever he wants when not working. Eh, most sitcoms either improve or die over time and this hasn't been on long. At least everyone is pretty likeable.

I really like the show. They're giving Barbara Jean (can't remember the character's name here) some great lines, and she backs them up with great facial expressions, like last week, when Riley asks what happened when she lost Danny at Walmart -- "We never saw him again" and she gives the girl a WTF? look.

it's not as if the other two begged Ben to keep her and promised to help

I think all three boys did commit to taking care of the baby in the pilot, and they did help Ben realize that he wanted to keep his child. Certainly they were all upset when it appeared that Emma had been left alone, so they obviously have an emotional connection (and in Danny's case, he's her uncle).

I would like Riley and Danny as a couple, but I hope they're not going to drag out the triangle. They were hammering it pretty hard with this episode.

Great to see Danny in the locker room -- but the burning question is when is he going to be shirtless?!

I'm amazed that ABC Family has put out some nice sitcoms over the past few years -- I enjoy "Melissa & Joey," I liked "State of Georgia," and I'm enjoying this one too.
