I saw TWoP's wish list for nominees and was curious about the eligibility period. After some digging it appears the eligibility period is June 1, 2011 to May 31, 2012. So that means that Mad Men, which had its season premiere in late March, is eligible. As is Hatfields and McCoys, which aired May 28 - 30.
I believe one of the more significant items of note is that Downton Abbey is supposedly competing in the Drama category as opposed to Miniseries. I would think it should be a shoo in for a nomination, even in the Drama category. TWoP thinks Michelle Dockery should nab a Lead Actress nomination (I agree) but not a Best Drama?
I'm pulling for Christina Hendricks for Supporting Actress. She is always great but she was particularly great this season. She was fantastic in the episode where she is all but told she needs to sleep with the disgusting man if she wants to help the agency win the Jaguar account. Especially the look on her face when Don, unaware that she had already done the deed, tries to convince her not to do it.
I would love to see Hatfields and McCoys nominated for Best Miniseries. And for Kevin Costner to get a well deserved Best Actor nomination. He was amazing in this.

Now, as to whether they'd have any chance in hell of winning, that's another matter.

Also a longshot but I would love to see Happy Endings nominated for best comedy series and Eliza Couple, Casey Wilson and Damon Wayans, Jr. to all be recognized for their consistently hilarious performances on that show. While I find The Middle and Modern Family cute shows and MF is occasionally clever, Happy Endings was the only show I literally laughed out loud at least once every week. Plus, I feel if this show were to get some emmy love, ABC might be more forgiving of lower ratings should the show under-perform in its new timeslot this Fall.

Madeline may have shot herself in the foot by submitting herself for Best Actress instead of Best Supporting Actress. She's undoubtedly going to go up against much stiffer competition as a lead actress, especially Julianna Margulies. Plus, as you say, it lessens Emily Van Camp's chances of winning, let alone being nominated for Best Actress.I thought Madeline had the best chance of all of them until I found out she's submitting herself in Lead.. What the heck? I loved a couple of her movies in the 90s but she really isn't that big of a star to commit such category fraud. Plus, it also lessens the chance of Emily being nominated which is a shame because I think in some regards she had the more difficult role to play on Revenge. Ah well..
For a similar reason, I hope Lana Parrilla doesn't go for Best Actress (even though I really think that she is the lead in Once Upon a Time, not to mention the strongest actress in the cast, although Jennifer Morrison really started coming into her own over the last few episodes of the season.) Like Madeline, she'd probably have a much better shot at winning Best Supporting Actress -- or perhaps, depending upon which episode she submits, she might actually beat out some of the perennial favorites in the Best Actress category.

She submitted for Best Supporting. I hope in that category they give a nomination to Kiernan Shipka or Maisie Williams, regardless of age they are both giving such great performances.

All the reasons why Merrit Wever should be nominated for best supporting actress in a Comedy. But, sadly, she'll be overlooked. Again.
Except she wasn't overlooked! :)
I can't believe Bill Hader got in, and it wasn't just me dreaming!

Once again my disappointment at no Kartheiser nomination occurs.
Yeah, I totally agree. I think they don't want to reward that character, which is ridiculous. That guy is one of the very best actors on tv.

No Parks and Recreation in Comedy Series (I thought it might upset Modern Family this year).
No Jeff Probst in Reality Host.
No Kelsey Grammar in Drama Actor.
Most outrageous snub:
No Janie Bryant in Costume Design for Mad Men.

Even though I still enjoy the show, I really hope Mad Men is defeated this year. I can see it happening at the hands of either Breaking Bad (heard it had a particularly great season), Homeland (new, great show), or Downton Abbey, which clearly has a lot of love. And I forgot it was in the Drama categories this time, so that means that sadly Christina Hendricks probably won't win again because she's up against Maggie Smith this time. Obviously, Smith is awesome but I thought Christina was spectacular this season.
Glad Game of Thrones and Dinklage got nods again, although I'm bummed none of the actresses got a nod and that Blackwater was shut-out of both writing or directing.
Lead Actress in Miniseries/Movie wins the star studded award. Judd. Kidman. Thompson. Moore. Britton. Almost reads like an Oscar category.

Also surprised that Jason Ritter got nominated for Parenthood over anyone else from that show.
No John Slattery for Mad Men either, and he had one of his strongest episodes with his LSD episode.

Glad to see that Mayim Bialik got a support actress nod for her consistently funny work on The Big Bang Theory, though. Oh, and Merritt Wever's long overdue nomination was a delightful surprise!

Merritt Wever, Nurse Jackie
Max Greenfield, New Girl
Giancarlo Esposito, Breaking Bad
P&R got two writing nominations (including Amy Poehler for The Debate) and Community got one, while Modern Family got none. At least the writing division of ATAS is paying attention.
How can a show that got absolutely no writing nominations be up for Best Comedy? That logic really doesn't make sense to me. If the writing isn't worthy of a nomination, the show shouldn't be. Parks & Recreation had two episodes worthy of writing nominations, that should tell you something right there.
I'm happy Veep was nominated, so that's my horse in this race. 30 Rock and Modern Family are such tired choices. I don't watch Big Bang and only saw snippets of Girls. And what I have seen from Girls, it seems very uneven to me.
I'm sorry there was no recognition for Community's "Pillows & Blankets" but that might have to do more with Dan Harmon. It doesn't surprise me at it's lack of nomination since I find Community inconsistent. But when they have an episode like "Pillows & Blankets" that is just comedic brilliance, I get upset when it's not nominated for directing or writing.

Lena Dunham is the Orson Welles/Warren Beatty of the Emmys - producing, directing, writing and acting nominations.
Remember when the Emmys loved Glee? Anyone...? Bueller...?

Once again my disappointment at no Kartheiser nomination occurs.
No kidding. I don't understand how Modern Family can stink up the best supporting comedy category every year but there seems to be a one person limit for Mad Men in each category. Slattery's been hogging it long after its been due and I can't really complain now because Jared Harris deserves a nomination, but how Vincent Kartheiser has never gotten a nomination, let alone a win, is criminal.
I really do hate the Emmys. Its just dumb dumbs clicking off the recognizable names year after year. Because if you can find three actors from Modern Family who deserve nominations I'd be shocked let alone six who were nominated. Six! I like Modern Family, but come on. The show is coasting more and more.
Parks & Rec, Community, Happy Endings and even New Girl not being nominated for Best Comedy is pretty shocking. I figured at least one of those would have ousted 30 Rock after its weaker season.
Most outrageous snub:
No Janie Bryant in Costume Design for Mad Men.
No kidding. Its not that any of the people nominated don't do good work, it's just that Bryant is probably the best out there right now at using costumes to tell a visual story that enhances the plots and themes of each episode. Between this and Game of Thrones not getting a directing nomination, I'm baffled by some of the technical nods.

She and Louis CK can split the distinction. He got noms for all of those as well, both for his series & his stand up special.Lena Dunham is the Orson Welles/Warren Beatty of the Emmys - producing, directing, writing and acting nominations.
I'm so thrilled for Merritt Weaver's nomination, I can't even tell you! And I'm nearly as happy that Jeff Probst got snubbed. I think I watch all the shows nominated in the best comedy & drama categories & it's the first time that's ever happened. Oh wait, I don't watch Game of Thrones, so there goes that milestone.

I tend to agree with that logic. But I love Modern Family and am happy for it's series nomination. The series, writing, directing nominess never usually match up all that much. I remember the year My Name is Earl won for writing and directing but wasn't up for best series.

I can find three actors worthy of nomination easily from MF, so I'm not surprised nor think they're stinking up the category. There were years where Mad Men had more than one actor nominated in the supporting categories. The show is as much of an Emmy hog as MF.
Where's everyone finding the full list of nominees?

And how does Game of Thrones miss out on the Main Title nominations? That is just about the only main title sequence I bother to watch.

Sad a bit for Game of Thrones' actors and the serious lack of variety in the sitcom categories. Enraged that Martha Plimpton got snubbed. I like 30 Rock but it wore out its welcome years ago. And don't get me started on Kristin Wiig. At least this is the last time she can be nominated.
