I know any story that revolves around Laurel as a lawyer cannot help but to piss me off and there has never been even a shred of realism as to the timeline of her career. But ARGH! this is irritating! First she was running her own non-profit do-gooder legal aid thing (with unknown funding) and was the lead counsel/trial attorney as a 1st or 2nd year attorney (which in legal career terms is basically a baby lawyer-ling).
Then she was hired at the DA's office and handed the most high-profile MURDER case (new ADAs hang out in misdemeanor land for a bit and certainly don't get murder trials for a while) and she was a close associate of the family of the defendant....
Then it finally seemed to be over. She was fired and there was a disbarment investigation which should end the lawyer crap. I took a few deep cleansing breaths and went back to ignoring everything about Laurel to the best of my ability.
But please don't make me see Laurel involved in the case, on either side, of a wealthy mob boss likely on trial for racketeering, conspiracy to commit murder, murder, etc. the likes of the fucking Whitey Bulger trial. I'm begging you. There is no way the DA's office would take her back so soon let alone put her on another high profile case. And I cannot believe someone as wealthy and powerful as Bertinelli would want a burnt out, drugged up, mess of a baby lawyer heading his defense team. A PD would be more appealing. (No offense to PDs. They are hard working and mostly very good attorneys. But they get a bad rap particularly among actual criminals).
Even as a juror, I cannot imagine she wouldn't be challenged for cause - Former ADA, cop's daughter, victim of multiple violent crimes, former crusader against the very type of criminal Bertinelli would be accused of being.... The only possible way I could buy a defense team worth a damn keeping her on the jury would be if they were blackmailing her. But why the prosecution wouldn't be wicked suspicious would be a total mystery. [\rant]
Phew.... ok. I'm a little better. I'm glad I got that out.
