Anybody else feel like they need a shower? For such little explicit content, this was something of a sleazefest. And damnably compelling as hell. Pete has returned to Season 1 levels of ultratooldom. I was hoping Joan would break a vase over his head.

Bright spot: Ginsburg shooting and scoring. But then it was surrounded by the sleaze.

Then came that ending.
I'm thinking Peggy would do well to leave SCDP. But Chaough! Augh! Elisabeth Moss nailed it.

What Pete asked Joan to do was awful and he's an inimaginable douchebag. I lost all respect I had for Joan when she did it.

That last scene with Don and Peggy kinda broke my heart. Particularly the held hand.

EDIT

I have to hand it to the editors though - the cuts to what Joan was doing interspersed into Don's pitch was brilliant.

Wow. I was expecting Peggy's departure to be at the finale, but it worked just fine here.

Pete is slime. Lane is almost slime -- and Joan, oh that was not a good move.

It's a little scary when it's Don trying to do the most moral thing out there.

Peggy for the win. I knew it was going to happen when she finally dressed like an adult, professional woman.

Why was the scene with Joan/Mom/Don repeated?

Where will Joan's 5% come from?

Now that was worth watching! Peggy uses her brain, and Joan uses her boobs. Both achieve success...sort of.

During that extended hand kiss, I yelled, Peggy, "keepittohetherkeepittogetherkeepittogether!" And...she did.
Good move, Peggy! You've practically had to turn naked cartwheels to get any recognition at STDP.

At the end of the episode for a moment there I thought Peggy was going to step onto the elevator without looking and fall down the shaft.

I'm happy for Peggy. She moved on to what I believe will be bigger and better things.

Why was the scene with Joan/Mom/Don repeated?

To show that Joan had already slept with Herb when Don came to her apartment to talk her out of it.

I hope that Peggy does well at her new job and I wonder if Don knows that Joan went through with the "night to remember" anyway.

I can't even imagine Peggy not at SCDP but she did what she had to do! I was wondering if she would regret it, but when Don tried to offer her money she turned him down. Interesting considering that Joan accepted money for her "assignment."

Speaking of... Joan Joan Joan. So you wouldn't accept assistance from Roger but you'd do THIS??? My goodness. I guess I can KIND of understand since she'd be supporting herself instead of being supported by Roger, but still... Wow wow wow.

contessakitty I think he figured it out when she came into the room right before Roger took the phone call from Jaguar.

So: Don got his DonDraper dick back tonight, and it only cost him the two best women on this show. Meanwhile he's still tied to the Character That Ate My Series.
I did actually burst into tears when he kissed Peggy's hand. I haven't done that since "The Suitcase".

I think I could actually hear my own heart break. I expect I'll get over it. Now I need to go shower off this episode.

I am glad that Peggy got the balls to move on. I think that despite Don's anger, he had a lot of admiration for her. And I wish Pete's wife would divorce him and take all his money.

Why was the scene with Joan/Mom/Don repeated?

To show us that unbeknownst to him, Don came to talk to Joan AFTER she already slept with the Jaguar guy. And Joan slept with him thinking that all of the partners were in agreement, including Don.

The only thing that comforted me in this dirty dirty episode was the fact that Mr. Jaguar had bigger boobs than Joan.

Well...that was heartbreaking on many levels.

ugh Joan, you break my heart. Both Don and Peggy crying while she resigned and Don slowly realizing that he had lost her and she was serious about leaving. Good for her, though.

That's exactly how I feel. Along with feeling kind of sick. Joan made a huge mistake. None of them will ever look at her the same way or treat her the same. I was really hoping she hadn't gone through with it. I will hate Pete forever now for making the rest of the partners think she was willing to go along, and for making Joan think all the partners wanted her to do this.

Only good note was Peggy leaving. I hope she steals every account SCDP has.

Are we supposed to think that Megan didn't get the part because she refused to use the casting couch?

I was so heartened when Roger, Don, Bert, and Lane expressed horror at Pete's suggestion about Joan, but then -- with the exception of Don -- each one of them got worn down by the prospect of getting the account. Ugh. I do feel dirty. I'm not sure what changed Joan's mind. It seemed to have to do with her conversation with her mom about the refrigerator and affording someone to fix it and so forth, but there must have been more that I missed. Anyway, it was heartbreaking seeing Joan go thru with that.

I'm very interested to see what happens with Peggy. And of course it would be Chaough (sp?) who got her. Love Don's reaction to that.

His kissing her hand was a beautifully sad moment.

The hand kissing with Peggy in tears was very moving. She had to leave. She was always going to be a secretary to Don, Freddie was right. He could claim otherwise and I don't think he realized it. But it was always there.

Why was the scene with Joan/Mom/Don repeated?

To show that Joan didn't do it after Don got there but before when she believed it was a united front wanting her to sleep with the guy.

Not popular here probably, but good riddance Peggy, don't let the door hit you on the ass.

I am about 100% sure Elizabeth Moss is not leaving the show.

I was glad she got the job and she is moving on. But a small part of me wanted her to say "I don't think he's ever mentioned you" when he said Don must have said a lot of terrible things about him.

Did anyone else worry that Peggy was heading for an elevator shaft (the one Don almost fell into a few eps back)? After five seasons, I still expect Mad Men to act like every other show and simply do things for shock value ...

Don/Peggy scenes are always amazing and this was even exceptional even by those standards. I don't see Peggy staying at the other agency very long (maybe part way into season six) but wherever the story goes, it was worth it for the handshake/kiss/Don realizing he really screwed up big time.

Well, I always felt it was coming, but Joan finally went ahead and embodied the old punchline, "We've already established what you are, now we're just haggling over price!" Hehe

I would find it hilarious if they lost Jaguar and the company went under anyway in the next two weeks, lol
