New drama airing on the CW this Fall:

From the CW press release:

Detective Catherine Chandler is a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective. Several years earlier, Catherine witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen. Catherine would have been killed too, but someone - or something - saved her. No one has ever believed her, but she knows it wasn't an animal that attacked the assassins...it was human.

Years have passed, and Catherine is a strong, confident, capable police officer, working alongside her equally talented partner, Tess. While investigating a murder, Catherine discovers a clue that leads her to a handsome doctor named Vincent Keller, who was reportedly killed by enemy fire while serving in Afghanistan in 2002. Catherine learns that Vincent is actually still alive and that it was he who saved her many years before. For mysterious reasons that have forced him to live outside of traditional society, Vincent has been in hiding for the past 10 years to guard his secret - when he is enraged, he becomes a terrifying beast, unable to control his super-strength and heightened senses. Catherine agrees to protect his identity in return for any insight he may have into her mother's murder. Thus begins a complex relationship between Catherine and Vincent, who are powerfully drawn to each other yet understand that their connection is extremely dangerous for both of them.

The series stars Kristin Kreuk ("Smallville," "Chuck") as Catherine, Jay Ryan ("Terra Nova") as Vincent, Max Brown ("The Tudors," "MI-5") as Evan, Nina Lisandrello ("Nurse Jackie") as Tess, Nicole Gale Anderson ("Make It or Break It") as Heather, Austin Basis ("Life Unexpected") as J.T., and Brian White ("The Shield," "The Cabin in the Woods") as Joe.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is from CBS Television Studios with executive producers Jennifer Levin ("Without A Trace," "Felicity"), Sherri Cooper ("Brothers and Sisters"), Bill Haber ("Rizzoli & Isles," "Thurgood"), Paul J. Witt ("A Better Life") & Tony Thomas ("A Better Life"), Ron Koslow ("Moonlight") and Gary Fleder ("Life Unexpected").

Trailer at CW's website: http://www.cwtv.com/...y-and-the-beast

Right now it's scheduled for Thursdays at 9pm with Vampire Diaries.

-------
I'll at least check this out; I'm interested in how they handle re-making the original series, and I have no problem with Kristin Kruek.

... - when he is enraged, he becomes a terrifying beast, unable to control his super-strength and heightened senses....

So he's only a part-time beast? And they better be careful, since that's so similar to the Hulk.

Spoiler
, guys with supernatural powers take care of her and bad guys can't fucking shoot her from two steps away (but shoot her mom like a hundred times just to be sure, 'cos ugly old people are immortal while pretty youth is so fragile). There is slow motion, bad CGI and overhead shots. Somebody save me, Smallville is back.

This storyline sounds very much like Moonlightning. Does anyone remember that show? I always felt that it was a just a few months earlier than its time. If it had come out in the post-Twilight, TVD vampire craze, it would have been a big hit. I hope Kreuk does well in this show and outgrows the Lana stigma. She was far from the worst thing in that show.

katsullivan I remember Moonlight! I think the writers strike destroyed it. Had the strike not happened and disrupted the first season it would've been very successful.

I have mixed feelings about Kristen Kreuk, BUT I love VD, so I will be tuning in afterwards to give this a chance.

Terrible casting for the two leads. And I don't find the anger management slant for the beast to be all that compelling.

Yes, though I can't recall Bruce Willas turning into a Monster to save Cybll Shepherd every week. ;-)

I adored the version with Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton. So do I tune into this version to deride and mock it, or do I just ignore its existence? I guess I'll have to see how bored I am when this comes on.

I was never a fan of Lana, but I have a lot of respect for Kristin Kreuk, particularly her views on the representation of women in the media. She's not a terrible actor, but she's not an amazing one either. She fell into a bad habit on Smallville of whispering all her lines. Fingers crossed they don't let her do that on this show.

If I watch Beauty and the Beast it'll be for her, 'cause there isn't much in the description that's drawing me in. I'd really like to see her in a show better than Smallville, playing a more rounded character than Lana Lang.

I guess making him a Hulk-like creature takes care of all that pesky bestiality crap they were afraid of on the first show. AND they can have a hottie play Vincent.

Have to agree, I do feel bad for KK, the Lana character was at best laughable, and at worst, far too much damsel in distress. But she knew it, and probably was a big factor why she left. Felt bad for her that the producers of Smallville seemed like dirty old men, when talking about the character.

Don't plan on watching it, but she may get to be a better character this time around, and good for her. Maybe if Allison Mack comes on for a episode, I will tune in.

Plus, they'll save some money on the special effects make-up. But mainly the hottie part.

Ok this looks like "Castle" if Castle was an ugly poor dude and Becket was....hey almost the same EXACT storyline. Kinda trite but I have no taste at all because this just might go on my DVR list,,,or maybe not Thursday is a big night for me and it conflicts with Glee and Person of Interest, so it depends on how stupid Glee is. (And I grade on a major curve with Glee.)

The competition for this show is unreal. I'll watch Person of Interest live, then catch Glee on Hulu. I doubt if I even make it around to this one. To be honest, I found the preview to be fairly interesting.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that one. Several hours of makeup before every filming session is hard on the actor and damn expensive. A show on the CW just doesn't have the budget to go all out Beast. They can also cast a cute guy, too. I'm sure that crossed their minds, too.

I hope that the CW execs get that what made Catherine and Vincent so amazing on the original Beauty and the Beast was their chemistry and acting. I hope the dude they get to play the Beast has half the talent of Ron Perlman.

I'd say the bad habit was that after someone told her she should smile all the time, she smiled the same ditzy expression no matter what she was saying, whether the news was good or bad. Have you forgotten the head-nodding? Jeez!

I was trying to remember Vincent turning beastly like the Hulk, then I remembered that his natural animal magnetism is what really kept them apart for so long.

I was not crazy about BB, however, I re-watched it a year or so ago with my sister and realized that the thing that worked then, even with all the Free Love, Hot Sex, etc., stories around, Vincent and Catherine didn't touch each other. Okay, so I know what eventually happened, but the relationship was about Romance, not sex. In 2012? On a teen network? I can't imagine the CW can improve on the original.

I'm not bothered by the casting of Kristin Kreuk. While I was not a fan of hers on Smallville, I liked her little stint on Chuck. I think she can be decent if given the right material. And she's no worse than some of the other average actresses the CW has given leading roles to (e.i. Rachel Bilson, Nina Dobrev). I know Nina Dobrev gets praise but I find her to be extremely one-dimensional while portraying Elena.

As for the beast not being a beast, this is the CW. At some point we're gonna have to expect these characters to become intimate with one another. They can't do that if the beast doesn't look human. I doubt any other network would have went through with making him 100% beast either.

I have such fond memories of the original. I loved Ron Perlman's gentle Beast and their wonderful underground world. And I always think of Ray Dotrice as "Father." He does the audio versions of the Game of Thrones books and it's like having Father read me a story. A really long, really violent story, but still.

All of that baggage is making me approach this new version with trepidation. I'll watch it, but it's going to have to be pretty good for me to keep going. We'll see.

So, cancelled by Christmas is looking better all the time. Laughable. We have Kristen Kreuk, but mercifully we don't have that major suck, Tom Welling, my career is dismal man. Let us hope the Beast is at least interesting, charming, and a full realized character, and NOT Tom Welling. Who should really go back to construction

I wish some network would do that just so I could read all the Parent's Television Council freakouts.

Damn. I guess that mean ABC's Beauty and the Beast show is a no-go, then? I thought that one sounded better than the CW take. All I remember about the vague plot of the ABC pilot was . . . it's about an embattled princess who discovers a connection or forms a bond (or something) with a mercenary bodyguard.

Oh, well. I still have Christophe Gans new movie version with Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux to look forward to.

The previous version only managed to limp along for 2 seasons as a novelty and a cult show, and that was with a real actor (Ron Perlman) as the male lead and Linda Hamilton as the female lead at a time when both her post-Terminator career and her looks were hot. This reboot has none of those things going for it, but I guess after they ran out of successes to remake they pretty much had to start remaking the failures. But what are the odds that somebody can pull off another Battlestar Galactica?

So if the beast isn't a beast all the time, isn't he just a guy with a grumpy disposition? If the heroine isn't physically repulsed and alarmed by him, is there any point to this story at all? He'll be just another variation on the vampires and werewolves who transform into monsters, like we need more of those.

But I imagine I'll watch it for the same reason I tried Terra Nova: science fiction fans have to take what they can get on tv, and SyFy or whatever they're calling it now sure won't touch the stuff.

I feel like he's gonna look like Alex Pettyfer in Beastly, where the show tells you he's hideous but in truth he is a hot guy who looks hotter with the bad boy/danger signifiers.

So we've gone from Linda Hamilton to Kristin Kreuk as our supposedly kickass female role models?

You know, of all the Smallville actresses, KK and Erica Durance are not the ones I was hoping to watch in lead roles. Where are you, Allison Mack?!

I don't care for Kristin Kreuk at all, so this show will really need to have a strong story to draw me in. Or I guess I could just skip it altogether. Depends on what it's up against.

And what episode will Lumiere and Mrs. Potts appear?

I am willing to give KK a blank slate for the show itself(I always (positively)remember her as Fiona from Eurotrip though. lol). Although never a fan of Lana on Smallville her ties to the show are enough to make me give the show a try(especially since I don't have anything on Thursdays to watch besides hockey). I am sort of with xander874 though in the sense at the end of the day I will make a judgement after 2-3 episodes how good the story is and if it's worth continuing.

sigh...I just can't. I was willing to forgive KK for Smallville cause the suck that was the character of Lana Lang really wasn't her fault and I quite enjoyed her stint on Chuck, but I just can't take her seriously in this. She's not convincing in the slightest.

I like Kreuk, but yeah, I'm having the same problem. I don't think this is the right role for her; at least the tough detective part.

Also, what kind of NYC cop doesn't know how to avoid a subway train? I can see the potential for massive annoyances.
