"Legacy" - The year is 2002 in the Hamptons... Emily, who is still Amanda Clarke, is wayward and reckless until Nolan convinces her to read her father's journals. It is then that it all starts sinking in, and Amanda starts staking out the Grayson home, identifying all the Grayson Global players her father described, and piecing together the truth. Her anger builds into determination and focus; this is where it all begins - the genesis of Amanda's ultimate plan to bring justice to her father -- on "Revenge," WEDNESDAY, MAY 9 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Yeah, Jack's hair was both hilarious & scary. I don't understand why his girlfriend kissed Nolan though. Because she found out he's rich?

Anyway, it was odd to have this flashback episode so close to the end of the season. It was good, but didn't really tell us anything we didn't already know, did it? We had most of these pieces of info from previous episodes.

That's my take on it. Perhaps she thought Nolan was her ticket out of Montauk.

We learned tonight that Nolan inadvertently bought up Jack's family home along with the other houses. It was never Nolan's intention to displace families. This would be yet another reason why Nolan has a soft spot for Jack.

Conrad and Frank killed Dr. Flox! Those bastards.

Tokyo Blue, Kai, Jack's girlfriend was definitely making a play for the rich guy, Nolan was flirting with her pre-Jack is her boyfriend reveal. It does make Jack's later iciness clearer as well as why Nolan is so willing to take guff from Jack while having his back and Declans. (ETA, or what Bella said!)

I think the episode filled in some details, made Declan and Jack's dad more human and more tragic. We know when Lydia's affair with Conrad started and why Victoria was turned on her so completely, who know how much of a retcon it was, but Victoria pretty much removed Lydia from the Hamptons very publicly when the her affair with conrad became clear.

We definitely know that Amanda was naive about what she was up against initially. I've got to give EVC props for the look on her face when she saw Jack for the first time since the day after her father's arrest and he was kissing someone (and appeared to have clearly had forgotten her.)

Personally, I am having a hard time coping with Jack's hair in this episode..... I hope never to see it again, I think it actually disturbs me, alright I am going to chalk it up to a youthful indiscretion.

I know we only saw him for a few seconds but little Declan was so cute! Jack's old hair...not so much.

But I have to say I'm really into Nolan's hair and leather jackets. Wonder why he went so preppy with his current look.

My precious Emanda! I was so sad, she was so vulnerable. You can see how she came to that revenge conclusion. It's wasn't just reading the journals, but actually seeing evidence, the dead body of her father's friend.

We also get to see the start of Nolan and Jack's relationship. Though I wonder why he would remember that so many years later. Before, I had assumed he had shown up at the Hamptons some time soon before the show started,or was there regularly even though he didn't like the people?

My problem with the episode was that Amanda had too many personal interactions with people she would later deal with face to face as Emily, and they did not recall having met her. I know the rich often don't 'see' the 'help', but that's largely due to the nature of those relationships.

I guess it's unlikely that crowd would remember a random catering waitress from 10 years ago. Yes, the only thing different was her hair, but no one pays much attention to servers -- this was even a plot point in an Agatha Christie murder mystery, where no one even suspects the waiter because they forgot he was in the room too.

I didn't love this episode. It was nice to see a vulnerable Emanda. It makes me more curious about how she got involved with the Japanese guy and how her warden helped her switch identities with Amily. There's been good momentum the last few weeks so this episode kind of slowed it down. Hopefully something epic will happen at the 2012 new year's party.

I myself was shocked when they killed of Roger. It made me hate Treadwell even more. He didn't even seem to care at all that someone was murdered because he stirred things up! I don't think Emanda's revenge on him was enough at all.

I agree that they wouldn't notice Emanda since she was just a server.

Little Declan was adorable!

So was Nolan's house built on the property his business manager bought? That would be a reason Jack would dislike Nolan from the first episode. Jack would not have known about his mother's role in the need to sell the house anyway.

I did like seeing Emanda naively thinking she could just take on the Graysons. And Victoria was gorgeous at the New Year's Eve party she met David Clarke.

This episode was more blah than I thought it would be, although I didn't know Amanda had witnessed the Graysons taking out others beside her father. It seemed to me that Frank had enough face time with Amanda to remember her. Perhaps that's why he was always so suspicious when "Emily" showed up.

I did like Treadwell referring to Ten Little Indians. He thought he was playing the mysterious host but was actually describing what the revengenda was going to do to the guests gathered there. And a fun detail that Conrad was making Monte Cristo sandwiches. At least they explained where that convenient photo of David Clarke in prison came from. Somehow I doubt that the guards were allowed to go around snapping pictures of the inmates at will, however.

[snip] although I didn't know Amanda had witnessed the Graysons taking out others beside her father.

Roger gets murdered before he can reveal the truth to her or to the public. All the more reason why she should have suspected the Graysons of being directly responsible for her father's murder in the first place. I still don't understand why she was so surprised to find out, via Conrad's phone call to the mysterious man, that the Graysons set David up to be murdered. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Didn't Lydia recognize her later? That's what had Nolan breaking into her apartment, and Frank finding her and her falling off the balcony?

Tonight answered a lot of questions for me -- the first of which being how Amanda went from getting out of juvie to being hell on wheels. It was cool to see revenge thrust upon her, as opposed to her just brewing while she was in the joint. Also, that she needed a reason to transform from what she was to what she is.

I get the feeling of what drew Victoria to David was his devotion and affection for Amanda. Funny how that was what did him in, and will eventually do the same to her.

I'm still confused about a timeline. Was 18-year-old Emanda really drinking in bars without being carded?

David never did say that his wife was dead. Hope she shows up somewhere down the road. And Jack and Declan's mother, too.

regardez,
I think the idea was that they were all led to believe that Roger killed himself.

At the beginning and for awhile I was totally disoriented and wondering what I was seeing. But I enjoyed it once I understood, even if it took me awhile, and I couldn't see how she went from that awkward angry ex-juve girl to someone so poised and 'well-spoken' etc, with impeccable manners.

Was anyone else unaware that Josh Bowman ("Daniel") is British??? He's very good -- I would never have guessed.

I enjoyed the look back and thought that Nolan looked a lot better 'back then' though I can't say the same for Jack! I can't imagine the actor was able to look into a mirror without guffawing.

Lydia had a photograph of her and Victoria at the party, with Amanda behind them serving the other guests. That's when Lydia started connecting the dots. But without the photo, she wouldn't have remembered.

I imagine having a couple billion dollars will buy a fairly solid id. Who knows? Maybe she just bribed the guy at the man. Most clubs don't card once you're inside; unless you are conspicuously underage, once you're in you're in.

I agree that this episode was interesting, but sorta out of place this late in the season. I think we got some useful filler information, just odd timing for it in light of the momentum build from the last two episodes. It's sorta like taking a coffee break 2/3 the way up the incline for the roller coaster. But at least we got some very pretty Queen Vic out of it. Damn she looked gorgeous in the 1993 party.

I guess it's unlikely that crowd would remember a random catering waitress from 10 years ago.

Yeah, people really don't recognize the staff, particularly at a catered party. Even Frank dealing with her directly wouldn't make her too memorable because people deliberately don't think about the staff as individuals. But even that much interaction, with different hair and out of context he'd be unlikely even think she was familiar.

On the shallow end:
  • Little Declan was adorable.
  • Damn Nolan is hot when dressed like a regular person.
  • And because it cannot be said enough, Oh.My.Fucking.GOD. Jack's Hair! My lord Nick Wechsler is a good sport. He must have thought Jack was getting a new pet when he first saw the wig.

I agree, Nolan can look pretty cute when he wants to. And so adorable hitting on the girl bartender!

It was nice to see some of our old familiar characters who are now dead, such as David Clarke and Frank. The way Frank killed Roger, however, makes me glad that he later died at Amily's hands - I guess he got what was coming to him, in a way, if he was willing to commit murder to protect the Greysons.

It was interesting to see how Victoria and David's affair started, and how totally hypocritical Conrad is, constantly bringing up her affair when we see that he began his affair with Lydia at the exact same time.

Hi, I'm new to the Revenge thread.

Well, not the exact same time, about 10 years later. Plus, he realized his wife was still in love with a dead guy. I'm not one to defend Conrad, just saying.

Also, yeah, I could see people from the party recognizing Emanda if they saw her the following week. I doubt anyone would remember someone who catered one event for them ten years before, especially if they weren't working the event alone. Even more so, given they throw parties all the time. It seems if they were talking to anybody, it was an Ashley type person.

Actually, he did not start his affair at the same time. All of the David Clarke scenes were flashbacks within the main flashback. Conrad started his affair in the main flashback in 2002, which was 10 years ago and after David Clarke was killed.

I liked it. It gave us insight into how Amanda became who she was and how she also is doing this revenge not for her father only by also for Roger. Poor guy- glad Frank was killed after all. He is so evil. Also We got to see how Lydia and Conrad started ( after David died) and why Jack was so cold to Nolan in the beginning of the show. Their bromance has come a long way. Thank goodness Jack cut his hair too! It looked like he had a bad version of Richard Marx/ 80s hair.

We also saw why Victoria made sure that Amanda was locked away - Amanda saw her taking something out of their house and giving it to Frank. I had always wondered why the Graysons didn't just let "the system" take care of Amanda after her father was imprisoned. Instead Vic went out of her way to make sure that she was buried in that place with that horrible "psychologist".

It sounds like David Clark was in jail close to ten years before Conrad had him killed. Why wait that long? If you are trying to keep him from figuring out how you set him up wouldn't you do it within the first year or so at the most? What changed?

There were 2 parties in this episode. The main party that the episode focused on was in 2002, 8 months after David died in prison. This is the party where Amanda worked as a waitress.

There were also flashbacks to 1993 (?), also a New Year's Eve party at the Graysons, where David and Victoria first met. (In 1993, Lydia would have been a secretary at Grayson Global and probably wouldn't have attended the party--and we know she was unmarried at the time of David's trial.)

By the time we got to the 2002 party, Lydia was married to Michael (?) and she and Victoria had obviously become very good friends. I am pretty sure that the kiss between Conrad and Lydia took place at the party in 2002. And it was also at that point that Lydia and her husband bought Emanda's old house.

I actually enjoyed seeing the characters together and being reminded a bit of the different roles they played in David Clarke's (and Emanda's) betrayal. I loved seeing Frank again even though he killed that guy.

At first I thought it was because Emanda was soon getting out of juvie and the Graysons figured she and David might be able to get together and David would tell his daughter everything. But also, from the previous episode, Nolan's Aunt Carol was about to bring evidence to David. She had to "die" to be safe from the Graysons; the white haired guy kills David. Didn't Conrad make an offhand remark about the loyalty of his secretary at the 2002 New Year's Party?

Nice to see Sam Who Doesn't Die again.

Jack's hair broke me up whenever he was on screen. Come on show, your budget can buy a decent wig.

What was Jack's father so upset about the house being sold. He would have lost it anyway if the wife wanted her share.

Nolan looked much more real and capable in the jacket than he does usuallly.

I think he was pretending to be upset so that Jack and Declan would not know that their mother had come by just for her share of the assets, not even bothering to see her children. That is why he did not want Nolan to pull out of buying the property. Jack would have known Nolan as the guy who forced them out though.
