Comedy Bang Bang is starting in June on IFC. They developed a show out of a podcast of the same name, and it stars Scott Aukerman as a celebrity interviewer and the "straight man", Reggie Watts is his one-man band, and has Paul F Thompkins playing Andrew Lloyd Webber as a frequent guest. They showed a ten minute promo after the "Portlandia" finale, and it was bizarre, hilarious, and awesome all around.

I am bumping this because the series premeired last night on IFC, and it on Fridays at 10:00 PM EST. It totally lived up to my expectations and then some. Reggie Watts is a fucking genius, and his song about how he feels about Scott was just golden. I also loved their spoof on "What Would You Do", and Zach Galifinakis was hilarious. I am totally sold on the series, as well as the podcast.

Attaboy!

I liked it a lot, too -- my only complaint is its brevity. The beauty of the CBB podcast is that guests can meander off down fabulous improv paths; not possible in a 22-minute format, so I wish they had gone with an hour instead of half an hour. Nevertheless, I'll be watching every week -- can't wait to see James Adomian, Jon Hamm, and especially Paul F. Tompkins.

Does anyone know if this will be viewable if you don't have a TV? Hulu only links to the IFC website, which no longer has episode 2 up, and doesn't seem like it will be putting any of the episodes up.

Episode one is the only one that has aired. Maybe episode two will be on the IFC site once it's been on the air.

I don't listen to the podcast (although I do listen to many others), and the first episode didn't blow me away. I got what they were going for, but I wasn't completely enjoying it. I will continue to watch, because it seems like they have guests I like, but I'm still waiting for Scott's charm to grow on me.

The second episode was awesome. The thing with Mr. Doublebutt (Doo-blay-boo) as the substitute host, Carl's multiple brushes with death and everything with Reggie was just great. And the movie trailer was inspired. Sadly, I could imagine a movie like that actually existing, probably with Rob Schneider or Adam Sandler playing the main character. I am loving everything about this show, and Scott has definitely grown on me, but Reggie is my favorite part. My goodness, is that man ridiculously talented.

I feel the same way, except as of yet I don't see any charm of Scott's to grow on me. (I assume you're being facetious.) I'm sure when I get used to his personality -- if I continue to watch -- I'll find him more amusing.

I've only watched the one with Amy Poehler. Well, actually I watched some of it, FF'd thru many parts. I was expecting more of an interview show rather than ... whatever you call this. Improv I guess.

I'll watch the one with Jon Hamm and keep myself from FF'ing thru non-Hamm parts. Maybe I'll enjoy it more now that I know what to expect.

The Comedy Bang Bang podcast is almost completely improvised. The CBB TV Show is almost completely scripted, I think. The common thread is the premise of an interview show being interrupted by wacky characters and backstage shenanagins. I'm preferring the podcast to the TV show far, I think, as I enjoy the freedom that the structured improvisation brings. There are some brilliant bits, though, like the Reggie Watts movie trailer parody.

This was how I felt as well. Never heard of the podcast, saw a few commercials for the show and only watched because I love Amy Poehler and I was expecting more of an interview show. Maybe if I had known what to expect I might have enjoyed it more. I might check out the next episode because I like Jon Hamm, but i'm not too sure what they're trying to do with this show.

My husband and I loved the Amy Poehler episode (I guess we missed the pilot?). We found it absolutely hilarious, kind of in the Reeves & Mortimer vein.

Reggie Watts IS a genius. I saw him perform live once and I have such a crush on him, he is genuinely funny and talented. We tuned in for him, but I like the manner of the host too (haven't known him before this). The only part I didn't like was the speech-dubbing, it went on too long. The rest was inspired, I thought.

Also we watched this after watching a test episode of "Bunk" so I don't know if this seemed super-amazing in comparison because Bunk sucked.

I was very disappointed in the Amy Poehler ep, hope the next with Jon Hamm is better.

Everything's better with Hamm.

I enjoyed this ep much more. There were still parts I didn't really care for, but Jon Hamm was great -- All the stuff with him was good -- and I loved El Chupacabra (Nick Kroll, aka The Douche).

I've tried to watch a couple episodes, but can't get thru them.

What am I not getting? I love Amy Poehler, I'd watch Hamm do anything, but I just do not find this funny at all. I saw the bit with Scott surprising a viewer and Andy Richter was there ahead of him, and it was so lame.

I loved El Chupacabra (Nick Kroll, aka The Douche).

Thank you! I knew I recognized El Chupacabra, but couldn't remember why. The Douche!!

Some of these episodes are good, some bad.

I'm a week behind and only just saw the Elizabeth Banks one. Its one of the bad ones. If she wasn't SO nice to look at, I would have given up halfway through. It was hardly her fault... the comedy bits were just super-lame on this one.

It WAS nice to see Dave Thomas though.

Comedy Bang Bang has been renewed for a second season, and they called for twice as many episodes. It will air in the third and fourth quarter of 2013. I am totally thrilled for this, as I didn't think that ten episodes was enough.
