Just discovered this series by accident and then indulged in a TiVo marathon catchup. I've seen several episodes now, including Luis' premiere.
He reminds me of Christian Bale's character in American Psycho.
That's just who I thought of with Ryan too, and I wonder if it's deliberate on his part. He might even feel that is a clever thing to do for his 'character.' The overthought business card, the apartment, and especially the attitude towards women and the insistence they all be blonde.
She was wearing all black and a huge diamond (rhinestone?) pin that said "Jane" on her lapel. I thought she looked familiar, so I Googled a video clip from Fashion Hunters--the episode about the Birkin party.
Could she have been Jane Holzer, the Warhol protege? She was on Gallery Girls.
I never got into the L.A. version (Maybe if they run a marathon sometime), all L.A. mansions look the same to me and there's nothing exotic about it. Also it seemed the realtors were always posing for an invisible catalog shoot.
I like this series because this is the New York I want to think exists. They make it all look so easy. Easy to buy, easy to sell, easy to walk into and own an apartment that's larger than a bed. Even the streets don't look crazy and chaotic. I want to think that if a person looked presentable and worked hard they could make crazy commissions. I want to think an average looking, not particularly smart person could actually afford these listings. Then again I don't know if that inspires or depresses me.
I especially like when they show 'foreign' buyers, because their demeanor usually is different than the Americans' (even the transplanted ones.)
I liked Michael, even if, if he's truly that anxious all the time in real life, that would be wearing. Also, get rid of the Porsche, it does you no favors, Michael. I think he would do well in Palm Beach, with people who wouldn't appear on Tv if you begged them. He's pretty observant, and not everyone likes 'flashy.'
Ryan left me cold, or room temperature actually. I've just known enough like him and they all are the same. As if they were pressed from a mold. I've been Kelsey in my time, and was as turned off by juvenile antics, though I wouldn't have left the shoot. I would've just tuned him out and focused on the photog instead. I don't think those models were being paid except maybe the brunette with the bangs. The others including Kelsey seemed like beginners hoping for the photos/film to show.
Ryan is the type who was made too much over by his mother, and will want and/or need a woman who will grab him by the scruff of the neck the rest of his life. All of those guys do; the more self aware ones will tell you so. What they never seem to ask themselves is: Why would she want to? A woman like that would've left him in the dust emotionally back in middle school. In short, grow up Ryan.
Fredrik I can take or leave, but his facial and body language tics and jerks bother me at times.
I wish they would've brought in a woman instead of Luis if they were going to replace Michael.
