Top 13 Q&A

What sets you apart from the other contestants?
Heejun Han: The fact that I’m a very good-looking guy. I love it… I’m just being myself all the time. That’s me.

What do you need to improve to win the competition?
Heejun Han: Of course, the voice quality and voice, singing technique. I just have to keep myself humble all the time. That’s what I’m trying to do.

What one thing about yourself do you most want people to know that hasn’t been covered on the show?
Heejun Han: Only reason why I started off this competition is to show the world that there are so many people who need our help — not only in their country but in their own neighborhood, one foot away– and I just want them to realize [they can] just impact one person, just save one person.

This is the point when contestants often get makeovers — anything you’d love or loathe to change?
Heejun Han: Whatever they do, they never could overcome my beauty.

Any specific theme nights you’re dreading or looking forward to?
Heejun Han: [Looking forward to:] ’80s, ’70s, slow, slow, lovely, lovely, balladeer songs. I would not look forward to metal, rock, something hard.

Who gives the most constructive and helpful feedback: Steven, Jennifer, or Randy?
Heejun Han: Jennifer Lopez called me poppy and I love it. Thank you.

Dude, what's it gonna be? Are you here to audition for The Daily Show, become a recording artist, or Save The Children? The multiple personality thing isn't your friend.

Heejun said himself that he never attended contests like this. He's not someone near professional like many contestants so I cut him a lot of slack. I think he will at least make tour.

For the past 7 seasons, this is about where I drop out of AI viewership. I have had the occasional video sent to me by a friend and when I listen, I'm reminded that this decision has been a prudent one. I remember thinking, as I swabbed up the blood dripping from my ears after clicking on an Adam Lambert link, that I have not really missed much, musically.

However, I may stick around this year as long as Heejun is in. At least he's entertaining.

Edit: grammar

This is why I want him to stick around for at least a couple more seasons. Dude is seriously funny. He should be in a sitcom or at least, do stand up. He's not one of the better voices but that's okay with me. He's a nice relief from the "this is my life and I must win" contestants so prevalent on this show.

Yay Hee Jun!

Question - in some interviews he has said that he went to Korea for his career or something like that and when he wasn't successful, he came back home and was depressed, got involved with Milal and found a reason to get out of bed in the morning. In at least one other interview, he has said that he didn't start singing until last year. So...what was it that he went to Korea for? My first guess was a singing career of some sort, but then I saw the interview where he said he only started singing recently. Anyone know?

I think his out-of-performance mode antics could work against him esp. because there's such a dichotomy between the songs he prefers to sing and the crazy young kid personality he shows otherwise. People might not take him seriously.

According to VFTW, 'Dante Han' had a bit part in a film called 'West 32'; he also tried out for 'Superstar K' in south Korea- the same show John Park was on post idol.

Actually, that makes him one of the most intriguing people ever on AI, for me. I can't properly get a good read on this guy. He has a natural sense of humor, quite a smart ass and loves to mug for the camera. At the same time, he's studying in a missionary school (according to Wikipedia) and loves to sing slow love ballads. Brain can't compute.

Ouch! You mean the dude who was suspected of being a mole and ratting out his fellow contestants? Chris Slime? That guy?

Who did Chris Sligh rat out? I never heard that.

Getting back to Heejun...he comes off like a jerk to me, the way he was badmouthing the guy who was in his group on group day (Richie?). Suck it up and stop whining to the camera guys about how much you dislike other contestants.

Chris Sligh was suspected of being a mole who leaked other people's song choices (the spoilers dried up around the time he got kicked off), plus he was definitely in league with Vote for the Worst. Post-show, he was forever giving commentary on other Idols' careers and talking about how he would have done things differently, until, after getting tons of flack, he banned himself from talking Idol online.

As for Heejun, I can barely ever understand what he is singing but I do like his tone. I think he was probably egged on to talk about Richie Law but even Nigel retweeted an unflattering comment about RL, so maybe he was a pain to work with all around.

Maybe he was a pain...but Heejun didn't have to go to the cameras and complain about him. He could have just kept his dislike to himself. I seriously doubt anyone held a gun to his head and made him say bad things about people. He chose to do so to get face time in front of the cameras.

She called him papi, not poppy. LOL.

I just watched a funny clip of Heejun and P2, and I think Heejun must be teaching Phillip the fine art of K-Pop fan service because that's all I could think of while watching that clip.

I'm back on the Heejun love-train. His singing does nothing for me but I love the personality!

I like Heejun I just wish he would inject more of his humor and hipness into his singing. His songs have been so bland. I really wasn't surprised to learn that he has an evangelical background- his song two weeks ago would have gone over well at a Megachurch.

They're adorable, they should have their own TV show. Phil Phil in Flushing Queens! Heejun in Leesburg, Georgia! What hilarity and hijinx will ensue.

Speaking of looks, if they do a makeover, what's the craziest thing you'd hope they do for you?
I hope they can get some clothes that actually fit me, because it's been tight the whole night. The pants being tight, I feel really bad for my sperms. It's just too tight.

From the TV Guide article:

For [theme weeks], I'd like the '70s, '80s and lovely, lovely slow songs where you could just melt the girls' hearts.

No, Heejun! Move away from the slow songs and nobody'll get hurt.

Normally I don't like my AI contestants singing "lovely lovely slow ballads" but they seem to fit Heejun somehow. He always does so earnestly that it's believable. I loved the whole sombre mood of his last performance. His vocals weren't perfect but he connected to the song more than some of the other contestants, IMO. But yeah, if he wants any chance of lasting long in the competition, he needs to change it up for the majority of the audience.

The contestants' studio versions of last week's songs are up on YouTube. Several of the boys seemed to have their accompaniment played on a midi, while others have full orchestration. Still, though the beginning is very soft, it builds to a very nice vocal overall.

Heejun and a few of the others who won't make it to the top should form a group. There are enough of them that sound decent in that setting.

Heejun has a lot of entertaining tweets but this has to be my favorite so far.

Like, I want to know how his brain works.

Phillip and him really complement each other. Phillip seems like a laid back guy by himself but he goes along with all of Heejun's "creative endeavors". LOL.
