Too true. For every fic like "The North Remembers," you have to wade through 50 Jon/OFCs or Rob/OFCs (there are even some Theon/OFCs,) where the heroine is a thinly veiled self-insert, or where the spelling and punctuation are haphazard at best.
Yeah it's long and complex and imperfect, but I figure ASOIAF fans can handle long and complex
Thanks to everyone who recced "The North Remembers," it was great not to have to spend too much time digging through the bins at the fanfic thrift store in order to find the very good stuff.
