A very fake-looking set of "fans" watching whatever band that is on the AMA pre-show (Chelle Rae or something).

Is it okay if I never seem to get Nicki Minaj?

Nicki Minaj is wearing a costume that probably costs a mint, and looks like a homemade tin man Halloween costume. Energetic start, tho!

I hope so, because I'm right there with ya...

She's entertaining, but I'm never quite sure what to make of her.

Feign surprise! Taylor Swift won. I guess the voters listen to her on mute. Maybe, I am cynical, but I never believe she is that saccharine sweet.

Nooooooo! Not the Biebs! Another person I do not get the appeal of. Why am I sucker for award shows?

I hate country music, but since I know a relative to The Band Perry, I do tend to root for them.

I don't get a lot of these performers. Speaking of which, there's Taylor Swift.

Meanwhile, I do enjoy Mary J. and it was weird the way that kid host on the pre-show cut her off unceremoniously. It would have been better if he'd said something along the lines of an apology, but people in those situations seem to think it's more professional not to. She looked startled, then amused, but would probably have preferred an acknowledgement of the abruptness.

"The Band Perry" - that's an awkward name for a band.

Not the Biebs! Another person I do not get the appeal of.

Well, my niece thinks he's the absolute best. Of coures, she's five and also believes in Santa...

Why does Chris Brown always move like he is having surgery with no anesthetic?

Damn, Beiber was soundin' ROUGH. I don't hate the kid, I hope he finds his key.

Chris Brown is actually performing album cuts! Yay! And he's performing good! And you will deal.

Watching with my 10 year old, for whom most of this music seems aimed to. It's fun to watch an snark anyway. Hated the Bieber song, that boy has too much adulation for his own good.

i like David Guettas energy, he has catchy songs.

Good God, Nicki - if you can't walk in the shoes (even WITH a handler) - wear different damn shoes! You look like an idiot!

I was just starting to post that maybe they're getting all the child acts and kid favorites out early so kids can go to bed, and then they brought out 50 Cent introducing Chris Brown. These days hip hop artists on these award shows seem to always do a medley of two songs, fast and slow, but I'd have preferred Brown's performance to have just been the first slower song, which was pretty good, while the second seemed similar to so many other performances out there.

Me too, he's pretty good.

Can someone please explain to this old timer (Hey! you kids! Get off my lawn!) why they have in ear plugs? I've seen some actually reach up and jerk them up mid-song. What do they do exactly?

ETA: Ooooh! The flashbacks, I love things like that!

Kelly Clarkson is pure talent.

She has got to be the most talented performer on the show tonight, save maybe Christina. I like Kelly A LOT more though. The Band Perry better win Best New Artist, the other three are...I don't even know.

I always thought it was so they can 1) block out some of the loudness from the band being right next to them playing on stage and 2) by doing so be able to hear themselves sing better. This is a guess, and not even an educated guess.

I think they are earpieces that help them hear themselves or the band?

Agree! She's a joy to watch. Hated the dress though.

Well, wasn't it nice of JLo to stop by and do her car commercial? Lame-o.

They're "in-ear monitors" and they block out all of extra noise and provide a feed from the sound board of whatever music mix the singer needs so that the he or she can hear exactly what he/she requires to (and nothing else) to sing best.

Is J-Lo contractually obligated to have a Volkswagen onstage with her whenever she performs that song?????

To anyone who knows Lauren Graham, I pose this question: how much does The Band Perry's lead singer look like her?! I cannot watch that band without seeing Lauren the entire time - it's her with blonde hair. It is seriously uncanny.

Ha Ha - when they said "Jennifer Lopez will be back on the stage with Will.I.Am" I thought they were going to say "with NO clothes on this time!"

My God, Ryan Tedder is a horrible live singer. Do people actually pay money to watch them perform? I'd ask for a refund.

J-Lo is too old to be doing what she's doing, but she looks fantastic. Tone it down a bit girlfriend.

The AMA's really missed the boat not having Jay Z and Kanye West win with Taylor Swift presenting.

Hahaha I was almost SURE that Kanye was going to win once I saw that, I figured they must have known and purposefully had T Swift present that award.
