This is the place for Losties to post about all the Lost references on Once Upon a Time.

ReverseFleckerl suggested having a separate thread for these so we don't clog up the discussion for fairy tale shout outs in the regular Easter Eggs, Allusions, & References thread (good call since not all the OUaT viewers are former Lost fans).

We already had the eyeball closeup & Regina's house number is 108. If a smoke monster shows up, I might lose it. Vincent is welcome to make an appearance though.

When the curse starting rolling into the Enchanted Forest, it looked like the Smoke Monster's more attractive cousin. I didn't want to get too Lost-y in the pilot recap though, so I didn't mention it. I totally missed Regina's house number. I wish I'd poked my head in the forum earlier.

Ha, yes that foggy effect of the curse did look similar to the Smoke Monster!

The clock in Storybrooke was also stuck at 8:15, like Oceanic flight 815.

The way they use music in the show is very lost-like as well...with the dramatic build ups and the gentle sounds...

Not only is Regina a smoke monster in her own right, but the big curse smoke has the lightning effects just like Smokey on Lost. Maybe next time it can show people scenes from their lives.

There was someting else last night but I've forgotten it now.

The second episode focused on following the other realm antics of the Evil Queen. Next week looks like it might follow Charming. It's very similar to the flashback character of the week motif from Lost.

Is there any reason why this should be a separate thread from the existing shout-outs thread?

Since the thread isn't closed yet, i guess it's still ok to post here?

Just quickly. Emma's room number at granny's? 4.

I was wondering that, too.

They were split out because of people who haven't watched Lost and didn't want to have to deal with those shoutouts.

Because it's hip and trendy to hate Lost and rage at the idea that you might someday be forced to read something that acknowledges its existence.

Seriously?

Is it anal of me to worry about Once Upon a Time lasting for 6 or 7 years? Henry will age.
What will they do have a aging spell cast upon him? Or have him kidnapped because he's special?

Well as long as Emma doesn't spend an ENTIRE season screaming Henryyyyy Hennnry Henrrryyy! I think we'll be good with Henry aging.

Yes of course everyone is going to age. But this isn't the kind of show, like LOST, that you come back to in the Fall and everyone says, "So how was your summer?"
Henry will look like he aged because of puberty. Do I really have to explain this? I see it being a problem, his age, if the show last 7 seasons.

Did anyone else notice the 360 pan around Emma in the pilot when she asked Regina if she loved Henry?

Very reminiscent of LOST--usually Jack was in the middle. I don't know if it counts as an Easter egg, but it felt like a little cinematographic nod at least.

James ;) and Snow giving him the nickname "Charming". Very Sawyer-esque!

Also, getting caught in a booby trapped net seemed like a nod to Rousseau's traps.

Other shows probably do this too, but I immediately thought of "Lost" when the second episode showed the exact same Snow/Charming wedding scene, with Prince Charming throwing the sword at the Queen, but it followed the Queen (and the sword), and the rest of the episode showed the Queen's perspective of the same time period we saw in the pilot.

Also, characters saying the same lines in the flashbacks and in present-day, though this show is a bit more clunky when it does this.

I wonder if it will follow Lost's first few season's pattern of introducing something around episode 15 that will indicate what the following season will be about.

In season 1, we found the hatch midway through season 1...which was what season 2 was all about.

In season 2, Ben Linus appears...which leads to the "others" season 3.

I like how Regina and Emma keep saying "It's your Move" as if they are playing a game (chess).
If you look really closely at the scene at Henry's seaside castle, they pan to the direction of the lighthouse and to the left of it looks like the statue from lost off in the distance.

Deciphering Lost Shout Outs I can't fault ABC or OUAT's creators for wanting to pay tribute to one of their more-recent successes, but I have to wonder whether their tributes also are designed to have some of us watch Lost for the first time or revisit Lost on Netflix or DVDs. I'm OK with their shout outs, even though I might not understand or catch the references. I just wonder whether the show's creators also might decide that OUAT would not be complete without having a flashback episode in Boston with Richard Belzer guest starring as New York Detective John Munch.

For those, like me, who never made it past six or seven episodes of Lost, the ABC website for OUAT has listed the following shout outs to ABC's Lost

In “The Pilot”: Before Emma decides to stay in Storybrooke, the town's clock tower is stuck at 8:15. Show creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz both worked on ABC's LOST, which followed the survivors of the crash of Oceanic flight 815. Emma's car has a Geronimo Jackson bumper sticker. That's a reference to a fictional band whose hit song "Dharma Lady" was featured on LOST.

In “The Thing You Love Most”: When Regina is staring at the clock tower, the time ticks to 8:23. 23 is a reference to Jack Shephard's number on LOST. Emma's room number at Granny's Bed & Breakfast is 4. The number 4 is a reference to John Locke's number on LOST.

In "Snow Falls": On their date, Dr. Whale asks Mary Margaret, "So you were saying something about wanting 15 kids?" 15 is a reference to Sawyer's number on LOST.

In “The Price of Gold”: Regina mentions that Emma lived in Tallahassee for 2 years. This is a reference to the LOST episode, "The Man from Tallahassee."

That is pretty funny! I can see it now!
I agree that they should stand on their own merits, and I believe that they have.

As a Lost fan, I do appreciate them putting their unobtrusive easter egg signature on this newly twisted unique show, as a tribute or just as a game of sorts. ;)

We in the fairytale world seem to love riddles and games!

There are few Lost references because Once seems to have enough of their own! :)

My favorite Lost episode. *sigh* Tallahassee actually is mentioned at least one other time in Lost, as a euphemism for an STD.

The list doesn't include one of the more obvious shout-outs from the pilot--Regina & Henry's house number is 108. That's the sum of the recurring numbers from the show: 4 8 15 16 23 42, characters had to push a button every 108 minutes in season 2, and it shows up in the hatch painting and the lighthouse wheel. And probably other places.
