I was almost going to subtitle this "Disney Does Dallas," but I just couldn't do it. I love Prince Charming too much. I was never so glad to see someone in a coma.

"What's 28 years when you have eternal love? I have faith. You'll save me as I did you." I loved this line so much that it bore repeating.

It's a beautiful line.

And, as several noted on the first episode thread, he's only mostly dead!

Okay, well first order of business: When is he going to get a proper name? Certainly his parents had better taste than naming him Charming.

As several people said in the pilot thread, his interactions with Snow White are very reminiscent of The Princess Bride, which makes me love him in a very Pepe Le Pew kind of way with hearts shooting out of my eyes. He manages to be sweet and devoted with Snow White and a badass while fighting and protecting their baby. To me that makes him a classic fairytale hero in the best kind of way! I also love that he was willing to wait for Snow White for 28 years in order to keep their daughter safe. Sacrifice and devotion is sexy! I just hope John Doe gets to wake up soon.

Yes, John Doe needs to wake up soon. I don't want to see our Prince solely in flashbacks!

I think the real question is what, if anything, will he remember when he wakes up? He was mostly dead when the curse hit. Will his unconscious/mostly dead state make him immune? I doubt it, that would make things way too easy. I think his memories will be even fewer than the other residents of Storybrooke. The curse created this other life for them, with no memory of who they truly are, but in the Prince's case, since he was unconscious, his other life is just a blank.

When he does wake up thats gonna be an awesome role reversal for the couple. Of course charming fighting three armed knights while holding his baby garnered enough good will with me to last 3 episodes, something about men being devoted fathers and husbands to the point of badassery is really hot.

I think he'll remember nothing, except for some vague feelings about his old life and his feelings for Snow White. I do, however, think he'll be more accepting of going back to the fairy tale world, since he has that blank slate and no emotional ties to Storybrooke.

I'm betting right now that John Doe's name is going to be Charles or Charlie. It would be pretty perfect if it was.

Loved getting to see more of the Prince this episode and was pleasantly surprised when John Doe... er, David Nolan, got to wake up so soon, AND have Snow... er, Mary kiss him back to life. I'm sucker for stuff like that.

Somewhat weirds me out that they've given him the name David Nolan, considering there are people well known enough named that (well enough for me to recognize the name and Google it to see where it came from, hello leader of the Libertarian party, or Stanford swimmer, or New York art gallery).

Also, Charming has a name. James. I'm somewhat partial to that name, so it makes me very happy.

I somehow totally called it. I don't know why, but apparently I was calling him James Doe when the pilot was showing online. I do like that he has a real name though, and not just "Charming." It was kind of off putting that every prince in every fairy tale was called Prince Charming. Makes it seems like he one who just like to troll the forest looking for damsels to save and marry.

Did anyone else see that little corner add telling you you were watching Once Upon a Time when the show was playing? It had Josh Dallas twirling around his sword. It was incredibly hot.

I really like that the broadsword has kind of become James's trademark. The more broadsword fighting the better, I say! It probably helped the show out that Josh likely already had sword fight training when he was in Thor, though his character in that movie used a basket-hilted short sword instead.

Snow/"Charming" James is really the OTP. I haven't seen JD in much, but he was giving a Wesley/DPR vibe from The Princess Bride and it continues!

The more broadsword fighting, the better I say!

Seconded! He seems he was really committed to learning it and even watched all of Errol Flynn's stuff to prepare.

Oh, I doubt this choreography came from Errol Flynn. I find the matter of sword fighting on this show far more realistic even if the guys James fights should have huge gaping cuts from him hacking and slashing them.

I'm thinking about giving James' sword it's own thread, I love it so much!

I didn't mean to imply that he did and they are very different styles. For Thor, he watched the Flynn movies as an inspiration and the general way in which Flynn carried himself as hero and swordsman. I can see how that can still transfer to him as Charming/James.

Oh, I see. That makes a lot of sense since the character in Thor was sort of an Errol Flynn ripoff. It's a shame he didn't have more fighting to do in Thor.

When I found out it was Josh in that movie I was very taken aback. I'm usually very good at recognizing actors in other roles. Between the beard and the English accent, I still barely recognize him in that movie.

I too wondered why they used that name, and then I saw these posts on the episode thread:

meaning of David: "beloved"
meaning of Nolan: "champion"

Prince Charming = David Nolan = 'beloved champion'.

(meaning of James: 'he who supplants' though perhaps we shouldn't be looking at meanings in the storybook world...)

Prince's name is James, but Snow decided, "Nah...I like Charming better"?

...to which I replied:

I was wondering about the possible meaning of David Nolan's name, and I am entirely satisfied with "beloved champion."
So I guess James is a derivative of Jacob, because in the Hebrew scriptures, Jacob's name meant 'he who supplants.' Later, when he wrestled with the angel, he was given a new name too (Israel) that could be interpreted to mean Charming -- at least in my mind for the purposes of this discussion.

Stupid E! is spreading rumors that Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin are dating. Reading the article they clearly have no idea that Josh is already spoken for and is married to a lovely British actress named Lara Pulver. She's slated to play Irene Adler in Sherlock. Hopefully this rumor won't have legs.

I've never heard of this young man, but hubba hubba, yum yum yum!

I, too, hope that that rumor is false, Tableau. It would definitely take some of the Charm off of Prince Charming and would take away some of the enjoyment of the show for me. I cannot stand adultery.

HA! I probably wouldn't have dared either, but it would've been amusing!

You'd think adultery would be very juicy for a gossip site like E! but they didn't even mention it and just treated it like they were both single. That makes me think it's completely unfounded and false. Their only source seems to be that him and Ginnifer have wicked chemistry on screen so they must be dating.

Well they got that bit right at least. I think they have awesome chemistry and it's carrying their storyline right now, the writing is fine but these two actors really sell it.

I just want to give big props to JD after tonight's episode, because in the opening sequence, when the real James was fighting the weird beast guy and then started giving some speech before croaking, I was like "Huh. Something seems different and off about Charming. JD is playing him differently than he was before." And then it became apparent why. So, kudos to JD for doing the small things to distinguish the characters.

Good lord, I hope so, but at the present it seems somewhat unlikely. They could dress him in more plaid shirts and I'd be okay with that, though.

You know, I suspect that the writers didn't forsee the name issue as potentially being a problem, but I really do think Charming's given name is supposed to be James.

I don't see why not. I mean, I kind of love the idea of him being a John Doe in both worlds, but as tgrfan23 pointed out on the 1-6 episode thread, there's nothing to preclude the brothers having had the same name since they were not intended to be, and weren't, raised together. Besides, the meaning of "James" is just too perfect, now that we know the twin story!

This from way back.. I listened to a new interview that Josh did on Dec. 2 here.Bob Rivers Show.. The guys doing the interview ask him at the end if she is married and Josh answers that he is single. after the interview the guys that did the interview continue talking about Josh saying that they should update his status because in the bio that they have it still list him as married. They even read his bio on air regarding this.

On twitter Josh called Fake!James, The Shepherd so I think the naming issue is still in play. Since it looks like Charming has been going by James for so long by now, I don't know if we will ever know his real one.
